In the real world just saying "I'm Sorry" just doesen't cut it... I have learned that there are 5 steps to a proper apoligy...

1. Stating what you did, this shows the person that you aknoledge what you did...

2. Stating that you were wrong, this gets rid of the argument of who was at fault...

3. Saying that you are sorry, and say it like you mean it...

4. promise that you'll try your best not to do it again, because saying never is leaving room for doubt... and lastly

5. telling the person what you will imediatly do to ensure that you wont do it again...
