Apparently there is no reason why this should not be an all-the-year minn kota pieces ground, but it really seems to never be visited much during the cold months. It furnishes, however, a very good summer handline fishery for cod at dogfish time, and in the spring weeks it abounds in cod, cusk, and hake, all minn kota components of large size.

Roseway Bank. This bank lies N. from the western component of La Have and SE. of Shelbourne Light, Nova Scotia: 31 miles SSE. from the whistling buoy off of Lockport, Nova Scotia, for the southeastern side. It is oblong in shape and of small magnitude--about 270 square geographical miles. Its greatest span is 21 miles as well as its greatest breadth 15 miles. It runs from 43? 12' to 43? 33' north latitude, and from 64? 25' to 64? 52' to the west longitude and also at the northwest corner is connected with the shore reduce of 60 fathoms with a narrow neck area. Depths are from 33 to 48 fathoms. The bottom is ofgravel and sand, and rocks; around the Northeast Peak the bottom is of yellow-colored pea gravel and dirt.

Currents in this region are not almost so strong as about Cape Browns and Sable Bank, their general direction being WSW. and ENE the westerly much the stronger, though the power and path of both of these are much affected by the winds.

The main minn kota parts taken listed here arehaddock and cod, and cusk, but hake, pollock and halibut occur, the ideal fishing months being from May possibly to October, when the lender is resorted to by craft from western Nova Scotia. A number of New Britain craft also fish here.

Los angeles Have Banking institution. Situated eastward of Browns S and Banking institution. and E. of Roseway Bank. It extends from 42? 34' to 43? 26' north latitude a distance of 52 miles, and from 63? 50' to 65? 07' western side longitude a distance of approximately 54 a long way. The bank is nearly divided into two portions, that the eastern (La Have Bank proper) extends N and S. 39 mls and the american portion almost E. and W. about 35 kilometers. The total portion of the bank is around 1,200 miles.

The bottom is largely coarsepebbles and pea gravel, and rock and roll, with more compact areas of yellow sand distributed here and there. Depths work from 40 to 50 fathoms. The general set of the currents is to the westward, but this is certainly much affected by the pressure and route of the wind and is generally quite solid during easterly blows.

The primary minn kota components upon this bank before has been for haddock and cod: and while past reports, (1881) speak of this as getting once been a favorite sportfishing floor for halibut and declare that it was not at time of much importance in this fishery, the figures for this ground for the year 1923 show the halibut find to have been third in volume and first in value of the species undertaken there. The truth is, the find of halibut here tends to make quite an imposing physique when the relatively small size of the ground is known as.

Little Los angeles Have as well as the La Have Ridges are simply continuations with this back to the Western Bank to get a distance of approximately 45 mls. This areas the eastern limit in about 62? 50' west longitude, the north and the southern area of boundaries becoming about as those of La Have Bank. The portion of the ridges is around 1,575 miles. The bottom here is a succession of ridges of pebbles and gravel with occasional patches of rocks. Depths come from 53 to 80 fathoms. The current, occasionally strong, is weaker here than further W. in the bank and, except throughout easterly winds, is but little observed. The general set up is westerly.

"The Ridges" says the report well before mentioned, "were for many years one of several favorite accommodations for halibut catchers in the winter months, and many excellent catches of cod were actually taken right here at that period. At present but few halibut are found except from the deep h2o along the the southern area of edge of the soil, where they sometimes have been discovered quite plentiful during almost the entire season." Apparently there is not much alteration of these conditions since the writer's time; species of fish seem to be present here In about the same levels as in past years.

A single piece of base, having depths of 25 to 50 fathoms more than red clay-based, lying approximately in 43? 08' to 43? 10' north latitude and about 81? to 83? west longitude, seems a good spring and early summertime ground. Seemingly red-clay underside indicates an excellent halibut soil, as this varieties is usually current where this kind of bottom is located.

Hake can be found in good numbers in the deep h2o about the sides of the terrain and even about the Ridges.

These waters can be heavily fished from Canadian ports, plus a fair number of American vessels visit them each year, the majority of them hailing from Boston or Gloucester.

Scandinavian Bank. Eighteen miles SSW. from Shelbourne Light. Nova Scotia. It really is about 3 miles extended in an E. and W. direction by about ? mile wide. In general, the bottom is level, with depths from 50 to 70 fathoms; the shoal parts are sharp and rocky, the bottom over the deeper parts being created mostly of small black colored and yellowish pebbles.
