YIP YIP YAP YIP
Emma sounded the alarm with her high raspy barks as Kage came down the hall and into the living space where he saw Winter hunched over his laptop with the glow of the screen reflecting off of his specs. Emma continued to circle around Kage yipping and panting excitedly causing Winter to take a moment to glance away and towards his guest.
“Wow, I hardly recognized you.” Winter lowered his glasses and gave Kage a visual once over. “I thought your hair was...silver?”
“It's just a trick up my sleeves.” Kage gave a small smile and placed his feet carefully to avoid stepping on the little dog as he made his way over to an empty seat. “So what you said earlier about needing company...”
“Oh. Oh yes I did say that didn't I?” Winter sighed and removed his glasses and placed them next to his system and leaned back to rub his eyes. “I'm basically an informant of the marketplace. I keep citizens informed of deals and items that go on in their world and it pretty much consumes most of my time.” He grabbed a glass of what looked to be an orange soda and stared at it in contemplation. “That means a lot of things here kind of get neglected. I figured since I kept you from becoming one with the earth that maybe you can pay off your small debt and help me keep this place maintained.”
“...so I become a maid in exchange? I think I can handle that.” Kage looked around at the house and what he could see was pretty tidy all unto itself. “It doesn't look like you really need my assistance.”
“Well then the job shouldn't be too difficult.” Winter chimed in and put his glasses back on. “Though you should get familiar with this place just in case I need you to go out and get something for me.” He made a few clicks to his laptop and turned the system around to face Kage. “This is a map of our town. It's kind of large so it's pretty easy to get lost. The place you'll most likely find yourself the most is in the marketplace. That's where a large group of people will gather. There is also a entertainment district with games and fishing and some kind of live action role playing with monsters and the sort.” He then used a makeshift stylus which was essentially a straw wrapper to point to another section. “There is also just a local hang out and each door holds a portal that will take you into another community and then there will be doors within there. You might want to start there so you can make some friends.”
“Oh alright. I'll be out... will I have a way to come out ooor?”
“Just knock silly. I'll most likely still be here working on my assignments.” Winter waved him off without even glancing up from his system.”
“...Right...” Kage bowed out the front door and started to wander to wherever the wind took it it seemed.
