Direct Auto Insurance Spreads Holiday Cheer in Local Communities by Donating to Charity

Direct mobilized its retail locations and online communities for philanthropy

Direct Auto Insurance celebrated a successful year by giving back to its local communities through two philanthropic campaigns: the "Give One, Get One" stocking giveaway and the #DirectGives campaign. Direct is committed to helping others, whether by providing its customers with affordable auto insurance, or through serving the needs of its local communities across the southeastern United States.

"The holidays are an expensive time for many families, and Direct wanted to help ease the cost of the holidays for those in need," said Ann Davids, CMO of Direct Auto Insurance.

Direct held its "Give One, Get One" stocking sweepstakes between Nov. 25 and Dec. 20. Each of Direct's stores gave local residents the opportunity to win a seven-foot-tall Christmas stocking stuffed with toys. For every stocking awarded to a community member, the local Direct store donated a second stocking to United Way, Toys for Tots, or The Boys and Girls Club. Direct gave away a total of 800 cheer-filled Christmas stockings.

Between Dec. 5 and Dec. 20, Direct leveraged its Facebook community to raise money for United Way of Metropolitan Nashville through the #DirectGives campaign. Direct first donated $1,000 to United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, and then promised to donate an additional dollar to the organization for each sequential Facebook like. With the help of Direct employees, customers, and friends, Direct donated a total of $1,870 to United Way.

"Social media is a powerful driver of community activism," said Matthew Melander, Director of Social Media at Direct. "With the #DirectGives campaign, we were able to leverage our strong Facebook community to quickly and easily raise money for those in need."

In addition to the "Give One, Get One" stocking giveaway and the #DirectGives campaign, Direct's employees pledged $24,292 to be given to the United Way in 2014, donated in-kind to the Trevecca Nursing Home in Nashville, Tenn., and contributed $7,500 in 2013 through the United Way Week of Giving Campaign event.
