2013: Another year, almost finished...
New Years is almost upon us, and yet again I haven't really updated this journal as much as I would have liked to this year.

But the time has come to look back at this year and review everything that has happened. Overall, it's been a weird-a** year. Large scary earthquakes. Storms and ferocious winds. A mild, not very cold Winter. And so far, a pretty mixed bag of a Summer: some hot sunny days, some chilly, cloudy days.

But at the same time it's been a wonderful year too. Last Summer was stunning, and me and Taina had a couple of nice trips to the beach, once out to Days Bay in Eastbourne and another to Oriental Bay in Wellington.

New Years last year was celebrated with Nerida, Lisa and Lisa's boyfriend Michael, out at Nerida's work colleague's place in Newlands, where Nerida was house-sitting at the time. It was fun, but it a windy night and Michael's drunken shenanigans got on my nerves a little bit.

Chinese New Year was fun too, in February. My work friend Amy is Chinese, and she held a pot luck dinner at her place on Oriental Parade for several of us from work, and I brought Taina too. We had some really nice food, and played board games all night which was fun.

But the most memorable part of 2013 had to be the month of March. Me and Taina went on a trip to the US. We did so many amazing things. We went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, Florida. We also saw the rest of Universal Studios in Orlando too. We went to three of the Disney World parks: Magic Kingdom. Epcot and Disney's Hpllywood Studios. And we also went out to the Kennedy Space Center. We ate a delicious dinner and cocktails at the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal Orlando, and also went to various other places like Taco Bell, Denny's, Cici's Pizza, Wendy's and other places.

After Orlando we headed up to Washington DC, which was also amazing. My favourite place there was the Spy Museum, featuring genuine spy artefacts as well as props from James Bond movies. We also did this interactive mission with a group of people. We got to pretend we were spies, and this tour guide took us through all these rooms where we collected clues and tried to sneak around without setting alarms off and stuff. It was so cool.

We also went to a couple of the Smithsonian Museums, namely the Natural History Museum and the Air and Space Museum. And we did a long walk along the Mall, seeing the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the Capitol Building, and getting a pretty good view of the White House even. We even got to go through the Washington DC Botanical Gardens, largely by chance because we were urgently looking for a toilet and that was the closest place.

But New York was the best part of the trip. We did a boat trip and saw the Statue of Liberty. We went up the Empire State Building and got the nighttime view of Manhattan. We also went up to the top of the Rockefeller Center and got views from up there during the day. We did a tour of Central Park, and walked through the park while it was snowing. Went ice skating at the Wollman Rink in Central Park, went to the Central Park zoo, and saw several key sites in the park like the John Lennon memorial and the Alice in Wonderland statue.

We went to an exhibition of props and items from the Harry Potter movies. We went to Madame Tussauds wax museum, and Ripley's Believe it or not Odditorium. Taina got very excited by this gigantic toy store we went to in Times Square called Toys 'r' Us, which was several levels high and had huge figurines and even a big ferris wheel inside the store. We also went to some other amazing shops, like the Disney Store, the M&Ms store, and the Hershey's store. We walked the entire length of 42nd street, and also did a tour of the NBC studio in the Rockefeller Centre, where they film Saturday Night Live and other shows like that.

And: we got to see Wicked performed live on Broadway. It was a phenomenal trip, and even now, months later, I still haven't quite finished paying off the credit card bills.
