Last Tuesday, I decided to make the last second decision of purchasing a ticket to see Pretty Lights in NYC at the Roseland Ballroom! And boy was I glad I did. The next day on Wednesday I packed my bag with travel goods, got my favorite "Color Map of the Sun" pin, put on my Pretty Lights Lacer, and took the next train into the city. The first thing I'd like to mention about this show is that typically venues in New York that start their shows at 8:00 pm have to end their shows at 12:00 am with a little leeway of about 15 minutes to half an hour. But the Roseland Ballroom let Pretty Light perform past 1:30 am! The crowd was ecstatic and full of energy (this was more than likely because the show was in the middle of the week so the people there were there because they like Pretty Lights and not just for something to do on the weekend). The visuals were strictly lasers and lights but it was spectacular! The entire theater was actually filled with fog so the lights and lasers were clear as day. And when the lights and lasers hit the giant disco ball hanging from the ceiling, WOW! The best part of the show though was that it was a live performance and not just a DJ set! Derek Vincent still mixed center stage but he had an entire jam band constructed of other artists under his music label on stage as well. Even when songs were played that didn't have an instrument being played on stage, the person playing that instrument would improvise! Now that I've seen Bassnectar's Immersive Music Tour and Pretty Lights Analog Future Tour all I can say is BASSLIGHTS IS GONNA BE CRAZY!
