||Beautiful With You Part Forty
Jade soaked a paper towel in water and handed it to Audrey so she could wipe the mud off her face, “If Brooks doesn’t find any replacement clothes, you can use my work clothes. They’re still in my car. I mean, they aren’t cute but they’ll get you out of these dirty clothes.”
“I’ll take it,” she said, “Can you get those for me right now? I don’t want to wait for him to get me some clean clothes.”
“Sure,” Jade backed out of the stall Audrey was standing in and closed the door, “I’ll be back in a second.”
Jade left the bathroom and there was Tom with some folded clothes in his hands. He held them up to her, “I found something for Audrey to change into. I don’t know if they fit her but they’ll do for now.”
“That was quick,” Jade said, taking the clothes from him, “Thanks.”
Jade went back into the bathroom and opened Audrey’s stall, holding the clothes out, “Brooks brought these. He was pretty quick. He didn’t know if these would fit.”
“Whatever it’s fine,” Audrey quickly closed the door and was out in a minute with the new clothes Tom had found for her, “What do we do about the mud in my hair?”
Jade pointed to one of the sinks with a shrug, “Lean over. We’re gonna have to rinse it out in the sink.”
Audrey groaned but did as Jade said and leaned over the sink while Jade turned the water on and ran her fingers through Audrey’s hair. The chunks of mud fell on the porcelain sink and went down the drain. Jade finally let Audrey stand up and she pulled a brush out of her bag and started brushing the rest of the mess out of Audrey’s hair, “This should do it. You can tie it back into a ponytail and it’ll be just fine.”
“Thanks for helping me out Jade,” Audrey said, pulling a hair tie off her wrist. She walked out of the bathroom and there was Tom still waiting for her outside. He looked at her new clothes and smiled a bit, “I’m glad everything fits. So can you tell me what happened?”
“Nothing,” Audrey replied quickly, “I just slipped and I…I uh…fell.”
Tom frowned, “You’re lying. What really happened?”
Jade popped up wiping the dirt off her hands with a paper towel, “Vanessa and a few of her a*****e friends dumped dirt all over her and then finished it off with water to create mud and I had to clean her up.”
“Audrey!” Tom exclaimed, “When are you going to tell the dean?”
“I will, I will,” Audrey grumbled, “I’m just scared. Don’t make me go alone.”
“I’ll go with you,” Tom said, putting his hand on Audrey’s shoulder, “Now will you go?”
Audrey nodded and Jade hugged her, “It’s gonna be fine Audrey.”
After class, Jade and Maya met up since Jade had the day off and had time some time to talk, “Jade I actually don’t have long. I’m meeting someone.”
“Are you meeting that guy you’ve been dating?” Jade asked.
“Um, yeah that’s who I’m meeting,” Maya replied after being quiet for a long time, “And listen, I know the damage in that room wasn’t your fault but if something like that happens again and I’m not there just call me and tell me ok? It sucks coming home to s**t like that ya know?”
“I know,” Jade said, “I’m sorry I just panicked. I’ll call if it happens again. Don’t worry about it.”
“Good,” Maya hugged Jade, “I’ll see you later Jade. Be careful ok?”
“I always am,” Jade said with a shrug. Maya walked off and Jade was alone. With a day off she didn’t know what to do with the next couple of hours. She could just go back to the house until her night classes began but she still wasn’t ready to be alone yet especially after the horrible mess she’d discovered. She decided to just buy herself lunch and just find something to do for the next few hours. She unwrapped her sandwich and took a huge bite out of it and that’s when Norman decided to sit down with her.
Jade started chewing faster and swallowed painfully, “What are you doing?”
“You were eating by yourself so I decided to join you,” he said.
“You don’t need to be around me all the time,” Jade chuckled, “But it’s kind of a good thing you came to me so I didn’t have to look for you. I feel like we should talk about last night.”
Norman suddenly got a little uncomfortable and he set his sandwich down, “Alright. I was just gonna let it go but let’s talk about it.”
Jade opened her mouth to speak but got distracted by his comment, “What do you mean you were gonna let it go? How do you let that go?”
“Jade give me some credit,” Norman sighed, “You had just gone through something really traumatic and I’m supposed to believe last night was the result of genuine affection? No, it was you being vulnerable. I shouldn’t have taken advantage of that but it happens. And now it’s over.”
“Right. It’s-it’s over,” Jade said with a chuckle, “Now we deal with David and then…move on.”
“When we were together we had to hide from everyone and meet in secret. Do we really wanna go back to that?” Norman shook his head while sipping his coffee, “I mean, I know I don’t.”
“I don’t either,” Jade mumbled. She wrapped her sandwich back up and dropped it into her bag, “I’m gonna go to Maya’s for a little while. I have a test tonight and I need to get some extra studying done.”
“Are you sure you wanna do that?” he asked, getting ready to stand up with her. She held up her hand to sit him back down and she nodded, “I’ll be fine Norman. After so much attention these past few days, some time alone will do me good.”
Jade waved and headed for the parking lot, trying to keep it together until she was far enough away so Norman wouldn’t see her fall apart. Part of last night had kind of been the result of her being scared and vulnerable but Norman was half wrong because the other part was in fact genuine affection. She had missed him and being that close to him again made her feel better than she had in awhile. When she got to her car, she noticed a note tucked underneath her windshield wiper. Her heart skipped a few beats as she picked it up and got into her car. She ripped open the envelope and found a picture taken outside Norman’s window from last night and on the other side of it, in chicken scratch writing said, why does he get to have you and I don’t? That should be me!
Jade grabbed onto the photo and was prepared to rip it but stopped herself. As she had done with everything else David left for her, she tucked it away in her purse and kept looking over her shoulder as she drove off to see if anyone was following her.
“Richard of all the places for us to meet up,” Maya chuckled when she parked her car beside him at the coffee shop where she worked.
“I’m glad you called,” he replied, ignoring her little remark, “I assume this means you’ve had time to think.”
“Not really,” Maya said as the two of them walked inside together, “I’ve thought about it and I can’t come to a decision. This isn’t easy Richard.”
“It hasn’t been easy for me either,” Richard said. The two of them sat down at a booth together, “I hate watching you leave with Charlie. I know he’s not right for you.”
“Well I don’t know that for sure,” Maya said, reaching over and grabbing his hands, “And you have to be patient with me Richard. I’ve never had to actually choose between two men before. You’d think this decision would be easy after the bullshit you’ve put me through but it’s not.”
“For the last time Maya, I’m not afraid to be with you anymore,” Richard said, “Especially since we’re at two different schools, we don’t have to hide anymore.”
“But you were afraid before and you’ll have to excuse me for having doubts the second time around,” Maya snapped, “I have the opportunity for a fresh start and I wanna see where this goes with Charlie.”
Richard pulled his hands from her and scoffed, “Either way you’re going to wonder what could’ve been Maya. But Charlie will move on. When I saw you in that dress and saw how beautiful you looked, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to be with anyone else ever again.”
Before Maya had a chance to offer a rebuttal, Richard grabbed Maya’s head and kissed her again. She should’ve pushed him away right there but she didn’t and in the back of her head, she hated herself for kissing him back. But she couldn’t stop kissing him. It felt right and it felt familiar. Maya finally forced herself to break away and she pressed down on her chest to slow down her racing heart, “Not again Richard. Please.”
“Why did you even call me here?” he asked, “Were you coming here to tell me something? I thought you had made your decision.”
“I thought I did! I don’t know!” Maya shouted, “I’m so goddamn confused Richard. I came over here thinking I was going to choose you but every time I do, I think of a reason why I should choose Charlie and then I got a headache and it’s just ridiculous.”
Maya turned around to leave and stopped dead in her tracks. Charlie was standing by the door with a look of pure rage on his face. Maya would’ve expected heartbreak but he was angry. She had never seen him angry before and it was a little scary, “What do you mean you were going to choose him?”
Ahhh, the plot thickens! Haha, well for Maya. Jade and Audrey are just ya know going with the flow haha. After forty chapters (which I've never gotten to by the way) I feel it's time to start wrapping it up. ESPECIALLY since I'm running out of ideas and I can't fake it for much longer. Unless you guys got ideas, it's probably gonna wrap up soon haha! Or not...I don't know...I don't even know how I'm gonna end it exactly. How do I wanna end this?
