Return to the Elphoria Archive
Goddess Erenia was the oldest of the sisters who created Elphoria. She represented darkness. Together with her twin sister Ilenia, the goddess of light, they brought the natural balance to the world they created.
Erenia’s plan to achieve balance resulted into the world being imperfect. There were natural disasters that hit the people every now and then, all brought by goddess of darkness. Despite all that, the people of Elphoria always stood strong, united and determined to overcome any obstacle that came their way. Everything went as she planned. The more Elphorians were cast into darkness, the lighter their hearts became. The spark in each Elphorian eventually became bright enough to wipe out all the fear and pain caused by the darkness. All of the people’s hard work for protecting their world was then rewarded by Ilenia and her other sisters.
Aside from her grace and beauty, Erenia’s rationality and ingenuity was also the the reason why most of her sisters looked up to her very much. But Meriveille, the goddess of fire, felt the opposite towards Erenia.
Later on, Erenia found herself attracted to a mortal she’s been observing. Vincent Zaine, a man who led the Zalrathians during their darkest hours, was a person worthy of respect. He was level-headed and intellectual as he was brave and honorable. Erenia soon made contact with the mortal. Vincent was immediately enchanted by Erenia not due to her beauty and power, but her down-to-earth personality. The two eventually fell in love and had a child: a girl named Silvia.
The birth of Silvia brought much joy to Erenia. Every moment with Vincent and her daugher made her happier. But as she became happier, Meriveille’s jealousy towards her grew as well.
Meriveille tried her best to turn her other sisters against Erenia. She tried to convince them that Erenia’s recent actions are inappropriate, such as being in a relationship with a mortal and her continuous attempts to bring natural calamities to Elphoria. She convinced two of her sisters: Thalskira the water goddess and Veiyuu the air goddess. The goddess of earth Aishara and Erenia’s twin, Ilenia, remained silent.
So, one night, Meriveille lures Erenia into a trap and finally did away with her.
With the help of her sisters Thalskira and Veiyuu, Meriveille divided the remains of Erenia into two parts: Her positive essence and negative essence.
They used the positive energy to restore Elphoria back to its spendor. All of the faults caused by Erenia’s dark powers were sealed, and all the other natural threats to the Elphorians vanished in the blink of an eye. Elphoria became an ideal world to live in; an epitome of beauty and perfection.
The negative energy, on the other hand, was buried deep within the core of Elphoria, along with all the other sins and irreparable wrongs the goddesses have committed. Since that day, Elphorians have never seen Erenia’s darkness again.
Vincent Zaine and his daughter Silvia mourned over the loss of Erenia. Vincent couldn’t believe how it happened. Meriveille appeared before him, explaining that Erenia sacrificed herself to atone for all the suffering she has given her people. Since then, Meriveille visited Vincent and young Silvia regularly, conforting them and helping them forget about Erenia as much as possible. Meriveille made an great effort to make Vincent love her more than he loved Erenia. After being together for years, they finally had a baby boy which they named Flavien.
Even if he was with with Meriveille for a longer time, Vincent can’t stop thinking about Erenia. Most people may have forgotten about goddess of darkness, but he always remembered all the fond moments they had together. He’d mention her name to his children all the time, reminding them of the great sacrifice she made for the welfare of her subjects.
It didn’t take long until Meriveille lost her cool. She realized that Vincent will always love Erenia. Since she never wanted to hear about her sister again, Meriveille made sure that Vincent was silenced forever.
But she did not stop there. She used more of the negative essence to curse not only Erenia’s daughter, Silvia, but her own son Flavien as well. That was the last time Meriveille had any contact with the children or any other mortal. The memory for Silvia was blurred and uncertain, while Flavien was still too young to comprehend what happened.
Since then, Silvia and Flavien faced the world together. Even if they had different mothers, Silvia treated Flavien as a real brother; as a matter of fact, she's very protective of him. They learned to rely on no one else but each other.
As they grew older, they started undergoing drastic physical changes. While they were growing stronger, they were easily exhausted during the day. A normal meal wasn’t also enough to satisfy their hunger. They soon realized that blood was the food they were looking for. They discovered it made them even more powerful. Their thirst for blood became overwhelming, but at the same time they can no longer stand the sunlight.
Silvia and Flavien soon became outcasts. They were considered “monsters”: both feared and hated by everyone.
The Zaine siblings were subjected to the darkness, the same kind of darkness that Erenia used to bring calamities to the world, just to make its people stronger in spirit. But now that she’s gone, instead of a spark, a burden grew within the hearts of Silvia and Flavien; a heavy burden that pulls them down deeper into the darkest depths of Elphoria. Meriveille hopes that one day they would sink deep enough, so that Erenia can witness how much her own daughter is suffering under her dark powers.
