I ambled into my father's office, clasping onto my mother's hand. He embraced me and held me up high as I giggled in excitement. He kissed my forehead as he put me back down. I fought the urge to wipe the kiss away because my mother told me kisses helped me grow. My parents hugged jubilantly.
His desk was cluttered with papers, picture frames containing family, drawings and colorings by me, and other miscellaneous objects I couldn't make out. I never really understood what my father's work was about. All I knew was that he went away six times a day and worked eight hours every time.
A receptionist behind a tall desk waved at me and smiled brightly. I cowered behind my mom sheepishly. They laughed together as I tried to muster a slight smile at her, but was too shy.
Dad showed me around the office, introducing me to his coworkers, to his boss, and showing me all the cool things around. He held my hand the whole time and grinned at me. His smile was contagious and I loved him so much.
My mom said something. I looked up at her, hugging her legs.
"Hello?" She said to me. What? I thought.
"Chrissa! Hello?!" She said a little peeved. I frowned and glanced at my dad. He wasn't there anymore. I looked around, he was nowhere. A man standing behind a desk with a distorted face stares down at me. Suddenly, a gun shot is heard.
I bolt up from my desk. Sweat dripped on my face. I glanced to my right.
"Chrissa. Were you sleeping?" May asked. Her face looked concerned as her grey/blue eyes met mine.
"I... think so," I answered. I wiped the sweat from my forehead with my sleeve.
"That was scary! You were in some deep sleep!" She said. "The bell just rang. Time to go home. C'mon!"
May packed up her things into her pink bag. Alexis came up to us as I slid my things into my backpack.
"You girls ready to go to the mall?" She asked, hands at her hips. She smiled down at us.
"Mall?" I stood up from my desk, backpack on. I was confused.
"Well, yeah! We told you about it? Remember?" May said exultantly. She stood up and we started walking out of the classroom and into the congested hallway.
"I must have been sleeping," I said, perplexed. I had no idea what they were talking about.
May and Alexis have been my best friends for years. I remember meeting them in kindergarten. Alexis told May that I was some kind of alien and May tried confronting me about it. I of course told her it was a lie and somehow, we all got along! Continued... I hope you like it!
