I did not go to the Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses concert as I waited too long to get tickets. Only the high priced tickets were left.
E3 was a hell of a roller coaster ride. The drama between the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 was very entertaining. A few days before their E3 presentation they released information about the Xbox One and basically confirmed most of the rumored and leaked DRM. The backlash online was huge. MS probably wanted to try and get it out of the way so they could focus their presentation on games as damage control. MS tried to spin some restrictions as features. Sony took full advantage during their E3 presentation. They announced that the PS4 would not have standard DRM restrictions and got a standing ovation. They won E3 and barely had to make any effort. On top of that, the PS4 has more power and still costs only $400 to the Xbox One's $500 price tag. That was the nail in the coffin. The mainstream press jumped all over Microsoft's humiliation. Preorders for the PS4 far outstripped the Xbox One numbers. Eventually, MS had to backpedal and announce that the Xbox One would no longer have the mandatory DRM restrictions.
The online meltdowns were glorious.
Some lamented the loss of the proposed Family Share plan. The Xbox One was supposed to have limited sharing of digital games with a list of ten people. That's gone now. But I have my doubts of it having really been a solid plan in the first place. None of MS's representatives could clearly explain how it worked. It seems like something they made up at the last minute when the backlash was growing and they had to mitigate it. The irony is that there is still nothing really stopping them from putting in a feature like that for Xbox One digital downloads. But they won't because they can't really profit from in. Unless maybe if they impose a fee.
Anime Expo is this week. I will be heading down. I look forward to seeing Megumi Han and Kazuhiko Inoue. Porno Graffitti will be doing a concert for those who purchase tickets. Stella Chuu will be doing a burlesque show for those who purchase tickets.
I'm looking forward to the Noizi Ito panel.
There are also some amazing industry guests like Makoto Shinkai, Aya Ikeda & CARAT and StarMarie.
