After the events of the summer break, things resumed as they once were. School started back up and so did the Host Club. Hikaru continued to show interest in Haruhi, but Kaoru tried to ignore it, wanting to trust in his brother's words on that dark stormy night in the inn room. Things continued to get worse though. On Halloween night, it was the first year's idea to try to scare eachother in the school at night. Hikaru, Kaoru, Haruhi and the class president were all in a group together. Hikaru and Kaoru ended up getting separated, Hikaru being stuck with Haruhi. As Hikaru and Haruhi lay trapped in a net, Hikaru realized Kaoru may be right and he does have feelings for Haruhi. It felt like his heart was about to explode when she leaned over him, her breast's in his face. Once he escaped, he immediately seeked his brother out, leaving Haruhi alone. When Kaoru was reunited with his brother, it gave him hope that maybe what Hikaru had said was true, that he was the only one for him. The entire time he couldn't help but feel that Hikaru was falling in love with Haruhi, and there was nothing he could do. That's what scared him the most, the thought of his brother growing apart from him. The next day, Hikaru, Kaoru, and Haruhi were all standing outside in the courtyard, reading the bulletin board. After talking for a bit, Kaoru making the reference to the carriage, he pushed the two off together, realizing Hikaru would be wanting to take the next step with Haruhi soon. Then what would happen to him?
Kaoru sighed looking down to the side. The people around him were happily going about their business, walking and laughing with one another. He wanted Hikaru to be happy, and knew that this was the right thing to do, but it felt so lonely. He and Hikaru had always been inseparable. Things were now changing. As Hikaru was walking off with Haruhi, he turned his head and looked back at his brother. His eyes widened when he saw the expression on his twin's face. He quickly turned his head back to Haruhi. "Sorry, I just forgot something, I'll see you later, Haruhi!" He waved, walking backwards before turning around and running to Kaoru, grabbing his hand and pulling him into the hedge maze. Haruhi slowly waved back at them.
Hikaru kept running deep into the maze, pulling Kaoru along behind him, eventually stopping at one of the gazebos. Kaoru pulled his hand away, bending over with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. "Hikaru..." He panted.
"Kaoru... Why do you keep encouraging me to be with Haruhi when it hurts you?"
Kaoru lifted his head, there were tears forming in Hikaru's eyes. His eyes widened and he quickly wrapped his arms around Hikaru. "Hikaru... Please... It's for the best..." He buried his face in Hikaru's shoulder as he tried to hold back his own tears, trying to keep his voice steady. "No it isn't!" Hikaru shoved him away and clenched his hand tightly along the gazebo pillar, his knuckles turning white. "It's hurting you... I never want to hurt you..."
Kaoru turned his face away, staying silent. Hikaru only turned to look back at him when he saw the other's shoulders shaking out of the corner of his eyes. Kaoru was staring hard at the ground, fists clenched as tears streamed down his face. Hikaru let go of the pillar and pulled his brother's head to his chest tightly. "I want to be with you and only you..."
Kaoru wrapped his arms around his brother's back and choked back a sob. "But! .... I-" His sentence was cut off as Hikaru pressed his lips to his. Kaoru slowly closed his eyes, pulling his brother deeper into him. When they parted, they were both breathing hard. "I love you..." Kaoru whispered, leaning his forehead against Hikaru's. That was all it took for Hikaru to push his brother up against the pillar, kissing him harder, their tongues intertwined. Hikaru sliding his hand up the back of Kaoru's shirt. Kaoru pulled his brother tighter against him, moving his face to rest on the other's shoulder. "Let's go home..."
Hikaru sighed and pulled back, taking his twin's hand. "Sure."
The two began walking, attempting to make their way out of the maze. Hikaru shoved his hand in his pocket, pulling out his cell phone. He flipped it open and dialed to have someone come pick them up. "Wait Hikaru, we need to get our bags still." Kaoru glanced over at the other. After the call, Hikaru hung up, looking over at Kaoru. "Let's go then." The two made their way towards the school building and into their classroom. Once there, they parted, each grabbing their bags. Kaoru then started to make his way towards the door, Hikaru grabbing him and pulling him into another kiss. When they parted, Haruhi was standing at the door. "Ah... Ummm... It's not what you think Haruhi!" Kaoru blurted out as Hikaru held him closer, smirking at Haruhi. "Ah.. Um... Stop, Hikaru!" Kaoru tried pushing him off himself. Haruhi remained staring at the two, not sure what to do.
"Come on, Kaoru." Hikaru took his brother's hand again as they brushed past Haruhi in the doorway. Hikaru slung his bag over his shoulder and kept walking not looking back. He squeezed Kaoru's hand as they continued on to the car waiting outside for them.
Once in the car, Kaoru looked over at his twin. "I told you, we can't do that stuff in public."
Hikaru shrugged and continued watching the scenery go by out the window. "Maybe you'll stop worrying about me and her so much now."
Kaoru sighed and looked down at his hands in his lap. "I still didn't want anyone to know..."
Hikaru shrugged again, resting his cheek on his palm. "Don't worry, she's not going to tell anyone, she has her own secret."
Kaoru looked out his own window, staring up at the sky. "I guess..."
Hikaru moved his hand to the center seat between them, continuing to stare out the window. Kaoru placed his hand over the other's, squeezing gently.
