Narumi's Adventures
The Adventures of Narumi Misuhara
Aftermath
Been a wild few days. For details on what specifically, please see this statement on what transpired.

For those of you who have been here a while, you know this was not the first time this has happened. This, in fact, is the third. Having been here for each one, if you were ever wondering, no it does not get any easier.

We lost a great many colleagues, colleagues who's presence and awesome personalities at this company are irreplaceable and will most certainly be missed. I wish them all the best in whatever their futures hold. As every one of them was amazing at what they did, I have no doubt their futures hold nothing but amazing things.

The dust is still in the air, the path ahead still a bit hazy to see, however, let there be no mistake the path is still there. Always winding forward, always leading to new, unexplored and exciting things.

I do want everyone to know that Development on Gaia Online is not halted due to those we've lost. I have been leading the devs and driving projects and initiative forward unabated for some time now and recent developments have not changed that. The leadership (Community Support, Art, Creative, Dev) that has been driving Gaia Online for the past few months is still there. Limited resources in some areas may mean some things may have to get shifted around, re-prioritized and yes maybe even cut, but projects and development is not going to all of a sudden stop.

For the time being the projects currently being executed on for Gaia Online will continue. For the ones we had yet to start, well, the haze is still a bit too thick to know for sure.

I'll provide further updates later when the dust settles. For now I just want all of you to know that what transpired was sad, and in the short term things will be difficult but we do what we do because we love Gaia and that hasn't changed.

Until next time...
Narumi Misuhara
Sr. Engineering Manager

Why Pan though smilies/icon_sad.gif he was so awesome with us users. I'm so disappointed he was let go.

I'm really sad to hear about this.

I do remember this happening before and it always has come as a huge surprise to me and the community in general. smilies/icon_sad.gif It is nice to see that you are still confident Gaia isn't in any imminent danger though. I'd hope we'd get some kind of notice about it if the finances ever got that bad so maybe we could try to do something more due to desperate times calling for desperate measures. Who is going has been really surprising from what I've seen so far though too. This just might be the most well known, liked, and (as far as we general users can see) productive people to get the boot in one of these cases so far. It is good to see though that you, Narumi, are still here and so is Siskataya. I wouldn't want all of the familiar staff members to poof in one shot. I really hope this doesn't impact Gaia's projects and priorities too much though. I'm still sad to see that improving alchemy drastically has kept getting pushed back as it is and this just sounds like the chances are even more bleak for getting our avatar layering system enhanced.

Panagrammic, like with Taligator, Fleep, and Juno, was someone I grew very fond of and respected not just as a member of staff but as an individual as well. With how slow the site has been I expected another staff cut to come, so this is not very surprising at all. I can only imagine how you and the rest of the staff feel about those who have been let go from their current positions at the company. I wish everyone well and hope you all stay in contact.

Thanks for the feedback.
And yeah, I'm bummed about Pan leaving. Probably some others too but I don't know the list of who left.

Thank you for info concerning the recent staff changes as well as hinting at the fact that GaiaOnline is not in danger of being closed. I don't know who all were let go, but I wish them the best of luck. Hugs ♥

Panagrammic is irreplaceable. They broke the mold when they made him. He was awesome.

Thank you for your updates.

Yep being along for each one it dosent get easier, if anything it only hurts more as you feel more and more of the heart of gaia melt away and the brightest lights extinguish. This rounds hurt me the most because JK and Pan I feel are two of the Devs I have been closest to because of helping test, find and get glitches busted and knowing what thier dreams and ambitions were for thier games and such. Losing such people its hard not to be skeptical about gaias gaming side. It feels like a unfillable hole, but I will try and have faith, if you say projects will continue.

I know the loss has to hurt you at the very least as much as it hurts for me. At this scary time any ammount of communication is great and reassuring. Sorry for the loss, and I hope though this both those guys/gals will be able to grow beyond thier recent shells and I hope gaia too will find a way to grow from this mowed down garden.

Thanks again for letting us know smilies/icon_heart.gif

Sage.
