THHF - Chapter one: As one door closes, another opens
'One... two... three... I can't give up now!!' The sound of something striking wood could be heard, along with grunts of effort and pain. Rain poured down unrelentlessly, and the wind tore at the trees as if it were trying to tear their very beings from the ground underneath. The sky was dark with storm clouds, and lightning began to rumble in the sky, almost as if Arceus itself was angry.

One... two... three.... One..... two... three!' The voice traveled very clearly through the forest, it was determined, a strong voice that belonged to a strong hearted owner. Standing in front of a massive tree was a small pokemon, white an green and red, a small ralts. Nothing of anything special, really, but all by itself in the storm. Lightning cracked loudly in the sky above the poor pokemon, but even that didn't seem to deter the pokemon from its beating against the tree. With a steady three beat, the pokemon would punch the tree with it's hand. A training of some sort, but the pokemon was shivering now. The storm had been going on for some time, and it was quickly apparent the pokemon had been out since even before the wrath of nature stirred up. Lightning illuminated the sky once again, throwing light over the forest, setting everything outside shelter in a searchlight. Still, the Ralts went on, the shaking getting worse and worse. It seemed to grit it's teeth together, tears gathering in it's eyes. With a slight growl he punched the tree once more, "I'll prove to them I'm not a girl!! I'll become the strongest Ralts that EVER lived!!!" After that exclamation, the pokemon seemed to stop abruptly, his head hanging. Lost in the droplets of rain that saturated his body and covered him from head to toe, were bitter and sour tears. And after a few seconds, the pokemon collapsed the the ground, exhausted completely.

'Tai...'

Tai knew he was unconscious, but he felt as if he was floating. The voice had taken him out of his deeper subconscious and thrown him in to a dream. He floated a bit, opening his eyes and looking around the dark, pitch black expanse around him.

'Tai.....'

Tai knew that voice, a voice that he could never forget, even if he tried. It was a voice that haunted his dreams and every waking moment of his existence. After a few seconds, the face became clear. The beautiful face of his mother, a Gardevoir, a mother he had cruelly lost to some trainers. Stupid humans... how could it be their right to take his mother away!? He barely even knew her! How could they!!

"Mom!!" Tai reached out his hand, tears gathering in his eyes. She was so close, he was sure that he could reach her in front of him, if only he could reach a bit further.... "No.... No!!!" His mother was slowly getting further from him, just out of his grasp. In a frantic attempt to grab her he darted his hands forward, clawing and grasping at the empty air to try and reach the only person that had ever been important to him. But just as quick as she appeared, she was gone, and with a chaotic tumble, Tai was forced back in to his body with a gasp. He quickly became aware of the coldness of his body. He curled up tightly, wrapping his arms around himself and he began to convulse violently with shivers, unsure if the dampness over him was left over from the rain, or a cold sweat. He pushed himself to his feet, forcing himself to stand and start walking. He had to get back to the grotto, he had to sleep. Tai's legs gave out, and he collapsed forward. He was too tired to move, he was too sick. He heard a rustle in the bushes, and expected a wild pokemon to ravage him. Instead, what popped out of the bushes, was another Ralts... a female from the bow on her head. She rushed over to Tai, and he could feel himself slipping from conscious again, and he knew he wouldn't be able to hold on this time.

As the darkness began to consume him, he could hear the girl yelling at him. "Oh my gosh! Hold on! It'll be okay! I'll get you help..." The darkness consumed him and he felt no more for the moment. He felt a sense of relief that there was someone here to take care of him. With that knowledge, he rested easy.
