A blog about....well about....something. Really.
Reflections on Vday 2k13/10th Anniversary
As I mentioned earlier, I was out of town for most of the Vday 2k13/10th Anniversary event, and wasn't sure I was going to be able to participate. Most of the events lately have been "spam the event forum with postings"-type events, for some value of "event", and I just didn't have time for that.

I have to admit I was pretty pleased they brought back the Mad Libs Valentines, since I had an inordinate amount of fun with them the first time around. And yes, I was happy they had the "randomize" options, since by the end I was just trying to help people who hadn't yet received 100 valentines get their achievements, and I was all out of creativity. And verbs ending in -ing.

I did fill in my own words for friends, at least for the first couple I sent each person. Hey, you're friends, you get to be special.

What I really liked about it was that I could work on it when I had a few minutes - I didn't have to be here in real time to slash bats or clean up random technicolor rabbits farted out by a large green ball of snot.

So yes, for once, thumbs up on a realistic and enjoyable event.

As for the items, they range from "huh?" (that movie DVD that no one remembered - guess not much happened that year) to "it's about time" (the BOO skin, can we have the potato skin unsoulbound now please so I can get it out of my inventory and into my storage locker?) to actually doing something nice for the remaining players (the mini halo/winglets). I figure they average about a B+ overall, which is higher than I'd grade most event items lately.

Speaking of the winglets, I'm not 100% sold on their long term investment potential. It's not that they're a bad item in and of themselves, it's that there are SO MANY of them. Everyone and their brother and their 39 mules showed up to get them, and everyone and their brother and their 39 mules are hoarding them. Demand is going to take a LONG time to catch up to that kind of supply.

Still, it's probably worth picking up an extra set of the other kind you didn't choose just because they're fun and useful and go with a lot of avatars. I just wouldn't bet on these being your pathway to eventually affording the Real Angelic Halo.

Just in case anyone hadn't noticed, there are backgrounds with Angelic/Demonic wings as part of them in The Treehouse. They're not cheap - 50 wing stickers each - but they are nice, and about the best compromise we're going to get if we don't want to jump through the marathon of hoops otherwise known as Alchemy.

Frankly, I like the wings on the backgrounds more than I like the Alchemy wings. Especially for the price.

On the one hand, it's more fun writing rants on "events" that aren't. But on the other, it's more fun actually participating in "events" that are, you know, fun. You take your fun where you can find it.
