Once again well past time for an update!!! Since this is my first journal of the year, I'll start off with some of the projects of yesteryear and where they currently stand.
One of the projects that was supposed to have started rolling out last year was an update to most of the games. This update was to unify the grants of all the games and fix bugs where we could. We also planned to make Puzzles far easier to update. This project was delayed due to other projects (like Towns 2) falling behind. We'll continue once these projects are back on track.
As we said we would we've put ads in daily chance. For those of you out there without adblock or who have funded, thanks you! Allowing the ads to show around the site is a huge help especially since we no longer bring in the sponsorships that we used to. Many people have the assumption that we are just raking in to dough, but this isn't the case and without the sponsors that we used to have that's lost revenue that we are trying to make up with advertising. Your guys' continued support is greatly appreciated!
Details are still being worked out. Originally I wanted to have this out by this month but it's had to be re-prioritized for other important projects on our 2013 list. I will do what I can however to try to get this out for you guys as soon as possible!
Bug fixes have been released since last I posted, we hope to have more in the future as well. People still seem confused on "who" is working on this, so I'll clarify that here. There are no full time developers on zOMG! at this time. They have either moved on from Gaia, or are working on games for Gaia Interactive's social teams. What we do have is a former zOMG! dev who we periodically contract to help us out with bug fixes and the like. We are trying to see how feasible it would be to train someone on the Gaia Online team how to program things for zOMG!. If it is not to crazy, we'll have one of the devs learn what they can so that at the very least we can hopefully activate the events in the game.
is still slaving away on this. The next phase is housing and it's looking pretty dang awesome! We are hearing those of you unhappy about the changes, but in the long run it's a needed change. The code for Towns was so old it simply was not maintainable. In addition, having many different flash spaces made it difficult to do unified updates. With Rally, VH and Towns all together, one thing done in one area will work in all areas which is the ideal situation. Plus it allows us to start fleshing out the Gaia world as a world and not a bunch of different parts. We know the biggest complaint seems to be the inability to create rooms. I'm not sure we'll bring it back the way it was but I'm considering options to do things like create private chat areas within Towns 2. The Towns 2 project will be going on well into 2014 (Yes, I actually planned it out that far ahead), but it should see some pretty awesome updates along the way.
Events still going strong thanks to the development work of Uncle Kenney
If you've been dying for the Easter Bunny to get back into the action of events, then you'll want to stay tuned.
..Phew, well, I think that covers last year. Hard to believe this year is our ten year anniversary! We've had our planning meetings for 2013 and I think projects are very fitting considering.
Alright, now for the part you've been waiting for ...what you can expect for 2013! Well here's a few of the projects on the list, note that these are things we intend to get done this year, whether we are actually able to is a different story.
Inventory Arranger update, Guilds update, forums display update, Towns 2 updates, new games and plenty more! Should be an exciting year
...Until Next Time,
