Some of you correctly guessed at it being a take on the Pygmalion story - smart cookies! For Polar Tear, I wanted to take that trope and present it a little differently. I never liked what that story had to say about women (or, let's say, any half of a romantic pair). Usually the sculptor and his creation fall in love and live happily ever after, but I thought it said more about Ísa (an individual woman) and Ísthur (an ancient star) that they stay true to their natures. Because Ísa is a unique person (and dead), she can't be replaced with a facsimile, and because Ísthur is a star, she wants to return to the sky. Pétur doesn't want to replace his wife, he's just working through his emotions, and by addressing his grief, he can move forward and have hope. cat_smilies/icon_crying.gif

Sorry for the sad story, but I think it ends on a positive note! So, that's what I present to you for the new year: be true to yourself, be honest about your feelings, and have hope~ And also lots of pearly hair and crystals~~~

As for inspiration, have some Sigur Rós!

I've also done Band of Bremen, Petulant Enchanter, Valkyrian Dragoon of Lalune, and Ultra Satan (though I didn't design him!) recently, but I think that was actually some time ago. cat_smilies/icon_xd.gif

	Happy New Year, PRlSM!!! Ooooh!!!! The first artist journal entry for 2013! (Either that, or i missed a journal update alert...) I miss the collages you make showing your references for the items. Not that i don't enjoy REI-explanation-journal-entries... I hope you'll continue to bring us pretty things this year as well!

	I love Polar Tear! I made an Ice Faerie and got lot's of compliments because of it. Intend to do it again too. I dunno who designed Ultra Satan, but I could hug-squish both of you! I bought one as a Christmas gift to myself and I just cannot seem to stop using it (currently using the eyes). I especially loved teasing one of my Gaia friends with it. giggles (the inspiration I got from the site, you know) I love ALL your work! Thank you so much! Happy Mew Year!

	Well I certainly didn't feel the Pygmalion aspect in Polar Tear, mainly because there were other stories of a man creating a sculpture that comes to life. So it didn't register to me. Your take is a very interesting one, but from my point of view I felt the emphasis was misplaced. Instead of having the male figure work his way into overcoming his problem, that you placed it on the female to just be herself. That's cool and all, but what about the guy? I'm sure, even when Isthur is awakened, that you could have given more emotional range for the male. Give him grief, give him realization, then give him a new purpose with hope in his heart. REI stories sorely lack a tender male perspective like this.
