The In-Between
In a universe far away from our own, but exists all the same in its own right since the beginning of creation, hovers the borderlands of rebirth and destruction. But because that world is in constant change, that Realm's inhabitants have found a way to leave and enter our Side.
After those inhabitants left their Realm behind, not only did they not have a physical body on our Side, they had brought a little bit of their Realm along with them. Whatever was near them for a length of time soon carried a little bit of the inhabitant's essence. But because they were not originally from this Side, their existence on this Side didn't last long.
Many inhabitants were happy and content as their essence slowly deteriorated and they ceased to exist. The Others were desperate and didn't wish to perish nor leave. So as a last and desperate attempt, the Others possessed the native people of this Side. To no avail did they succeed as this Side's people used their own magic to reject them from their bodies.
Some decided that since they couldn't exist in this world, they'd go back home, where they originally came from. They felt that this rejection was the world's way of telling them that it just wasn't meant to be. So those that accepted that as a fact left to go back home to their Realm, deciding that it was better to live in utter chaos than to disappear into the unknown nothingness of this Side. The Remaining inhabitants decided that they would not give up living in this world until they perished. Instead of losing hope, the Remaining tried many different ways and methods of trying to survive on this Side.
But now, no one knows if they ever succeeded.
