Weird. I was looking through my journal entries from this time last year and it looks like I didn't actually post up one of these last year.
It's odd. I do it every year, it doesn't seem like something I would forget. Oh well, anyway:
1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before? Used an iPad. Booked an overseas trip myself. Planned a work Christmas function.
2. Did you keep your New Years' Resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Okay, so apparently my New Years resolutions this year were: to make a journal entry at least once a month. That one I failed appalling at.
Second one was to save at least 500 dollars towards overseas travel plans. Definitely achieved that one. There was also one to upload a music related video recording onto YouTube- didn't do that one. And there was one about working on writing more of the story I started writing years ago- didn't do any of that either.
So overall not so great on the resolutions this year. 3 . Did anyone close to you give birth? Noone I can think of, no. 4. Did anyone close to you die? Grandad died in February. So I now have one remaining living grandparent.
5. What countries did you visit? Didn't go overseas this year at all. But watch this space for next year. 6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012? More money. Be better organised with things in general. And I guess just be less stressed. 7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? It's pretty hard to pick a specific day. The day of the work Christmas party maybe, or maybe the day of my uncle David's wedding. 8.What was your biggest achievement of the year? Booking my US holiday for next year. Getting the Christmas party for work organised. And various work achievements, like two pay rises and being given the keys to the store. 9. What was your biggest failure? Well, at the beginning of the year I was trying to lose weight, through dieting and playing Zumba. And then Winter came along and all my plans went out the window.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? My allergies have been really bad this year. I now take hayfever pills every day, plus a nasal spray. And sometimes eye drops when my conjunctivitis kicks in. I've been getting a lot of sinus headaches due to my allergies too. But on the plus side, only one cold this year. 11. What was the best thing you bought? Buying Taina the Wonderbook Book of Spells on PS3 for Christmas, that was pretty good. And I've bought the odd new clothing item throughout the year. And I bought a Mr Hankey Christmas tree decoration online from Canada. That was cool.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? Taina is always lovely. He does his best to be helpful with housework and things, and he's patient with how annoying and moody I can get when I get tired in the evenings.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Certain customers at work who are stupid and rude. And Farida annoyed me a bit when I was trying to organise the Christmas party and she kept objecting to everything.
14. Where did most of your money go? The bulk of my money, as always, went towards rent, food, bills, train fare and petrol. But I managed to save a bit towards next year's US trip in March. And me and Taina did have a few nights out throughout the year, to restaurants and seeing movies. 15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? I got excited when I won the iPad from work. I've been very excited about next year's trip. I got a little excited about the usual things like Christmas and birthdays too.
16. What song will always remind you of 2012? The song Some Nights by Fun. Great song.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. Happier or Sadder? Happier. Looking forward to next year. And things are falling into place a little more now. ii. Thinner or Fatter than last year? Thinner. I lost a bit of weight earlier in the year. I put a lot of it back on later, but not all of it. iii. Richer or Poorer? Richer. But that will definitely change once this trip happens.
18: What do you wish you'd done more of? Writing in my journal, and creative things like working on songs and stories. 19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Stressing out.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? I spent it with my family mostly. Nick stayed with his girlfriend Ellen's family for Christmas morning so Taina stayed with me at Mum and Dads instead to make up for it. Had pancakes for breakfast. PIlchers came over for lunch after Taina went back to his family's house. Kelly family came over for dinner, and Nick and Ellen came over then too. Then at about 10pm after all the Kellys left, I went over to Taina's parents place, and we stayed up till 4am playing board games. 22. Did you fall in love in 2012? No, because I was already in love. Me and Taina are still the same as we were last year, happy.
23. How many one-night stands? Absolutely none. 24. What was your favourite TV programme? Coro St I guess. Saw the tram crash episodes for the 50th anniversary this year, that was exciting. Didn't watch much TV overall, although got DVDs from Fatso throughout the year, so we watched some Doctor Who, some South Park, some Bewitched, Goodnight Sweetheart, stuff like that.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Can't say I hate anyone really at all.
26. What was the best book you read? I read a few super old books on my iPad when I first got it. Little Women was good, and I liked reading Great Expectations.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? The band called Fun. And I'm starting to get used to the new electronic pop-rock style that's around now. And I actually kinda like One Direction. Yeah, I know. 28. What did you want and get? Money for savings. Payrises from work.
29. What did you want and not get? I could definitely do with more money for the trip, and any future trips. And I would like to be able to afford to buy more clothes.
30. What was your favorite film of the year? Hmm, what did I see this year? Wreck It Ralph was okay. Two Little Boys, that was okay. That movie with Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones going to sex therapy, that was okay. Men in Black 3, that was alright. And what was it called? The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? That was really good, I liked that.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 27. I worked on the day. In the evening we had a staff outing, went Go Karting. Later in the week, me, Lisa and Nerida had a girls night and went to dinner in town.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Just a little bit more money, and a little bit more free time.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012? I spent a large amount of my time in work uniform. T-shirts and trackpants were my main winter clothes, and now it's summer I'm just starting to pull out the dresses.
34. What kept you sane? Taina. And friends like Lisa, Nerida and Jess.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? This question never really applies to me much anymore.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Hmmm, I have to admit the recent shooting in Colorado got me pretty angry. I just can't understand why people in the US are still thinking they shouldn't change their gun laws. 37. Who did you miss? I missed Jess, although I got to see her when she stayed with us for a few days in October, which was really awesome by the way. I miss Karibo because I never get to chat to him these days.
38. Who was the best new person you met? Some of the new people at Specsavers, particularly Ellen, because she's fun and geeky.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012? I've learned that hard work can sometimes pay off. And I've learned life is too short to put off the things that are important to you.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: “Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck, some nights I call it a draw, some nights I wish that my hands would build a castle, some nights I wish they'd just fall off. But I still wake up, I still see your ghost, oh lord I'm still not sure what I stand for. What do I stand for, what do I stand for, most night I don't know, anymore"
