Main Characters

Name: Kaon
Age: ~13.7 billion years old
Sex: None
Height: Variable, usually very tall
Weight: Variable
Current residence: Antimatter galaxy in a remote corner of our universe

Bio: Kaon is a mutated kaon particle that has the ability to shapeshift and has existed since a fraction of a second after the Big Bang. Thus, Kaon often takes the form of a humanoid with long, black hair; an inky, quasi-formless being with barbed tendrils; or any combination of the above. They have the ability to manipulate antimatter, and once fought (and lost) a major war for antimatter's dominance of the universe. A few cults on Earth and other planets worship Kaon as a patron saint of forbidden knowledge and chaos. Kaon enjoys wreaking havok on unsuspecting planets and other such cosmic bodies, and hold a great deal of influence over the colonies of the asteroids Apophis and Baptistina and the rogue planet Nibiru, and formerly the failed star Nemesis. However, Earth is their favorite target. They have taken many forms on Earth and influenced many people, including the DPRK's Kim family.

In 2012, Kaon appeared to the DPRK's young leader, Kim Jong-un, offering him the power of cold fusion. He willingly accepted, and he used his gift to turn his suffering country into a futuristic pseudo-superpower. As a continuing act of "generosity", Kaon also resurrected his father Kim Jong-il and grandfather Kim Il-sung and granted them the powers of nuclear fission and fusion, respectively, but not without a price — the three leaders needed to relinquish their autonomy and become Kaon's eternal servants. Kaon cannot control the manner in which they use their gifts, and as a result, the leaders do not always form the most morally or ethically correct decisions with their powers.

For the past few billion years, Kaon has been covertly gathering followers for another attempt at triggering a war of antimatter versus matter. As such, Kaon has no qualms about bestowing his/her subjects supernatural abilities, even granting them greatly prolonged lifespans or immortality, as long as they return the favor by becoming Kaon's servants.

Traits: Kaon is tricky, but feigns benevolence. Kaon is not a demon, and does not belong to any specific species or race. Kaon tends not to get involved in matters not strictly concerning them, but often takes several different forms, human or animal, to observe the Earthlings. Although Kaon promises lavish gifts and extensive knowledge to those who summon them, it is best to avoid interaction with Kaon.

Name: Kim Il-sung, born as Kim Song-ju (김일성, 김성주)
Age: 101 years old
Birthday: April 15
Sex: Male
Height: 172 cm (5 ft 6 in)
Weight: 91 kg (200 lbs)
Current Residence: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Pyongyang, DPRK

Bio: Kim Il-sung is the founder of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), and its first leader. He is the creator of the Juche ideology, a philosophy that combines economic self-reliance, political autonomy, national self-defense, Marxism-Leninism (though he will always claim that Juche is 100% original), and similar elements. As Korea was once a Japanese colony, he took part in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese during World War II, seeking independence from the imperialists. During that time, he adopted the nom de guerre Il-sung, which means "become the sun." Supposedly, he received a hero's welcome upon returning home to Pyongyang at the end of the war, and became the leader of the newly-formed DPRK in 1948 with the help of the USSR. An expert at political maneuvering, he successfully prevented his country from becoming a satellite state of the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. However, he received a great deal of assistance from both nations, who helped to keep the DPRK from falling to the United Nations forces during the Fatherland Liberation War (1950 - 1953). Following the war, the USSR and PRC paved the way for the DPRK to become far more successful economically than the Republic of Korea (South Korea) for twenty years.

Kim Il-sung possessed a notoriously excessive cult of personality, strengthened by his eldest child, Kim Jong-il, and became a sort of champion of the non-aligned movement. He traveled to many Communist/socialist and developing nations, meeting with world leaders and encouraging the spread of Juche thought. Adored by his people, his image appears everywhere in the DPRK. However, his country's economy began falling apart with the collapse of the USSR in 1991, and he could no longer provide for his people in the same manner he had done for so long.

The Great Leader succumbed to poor health and died in 1994 at the age of 82, leaving his son Kim Jong-il to take control of the country. Scientists preserved him and placed him on display in the presidential palace, now called the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun. Just before his death, his daughter Kim Song-hui created the elixir of life, which she intended to give to him to prolong his life forever. She fled the country after drinking the elixir herself, but re-appeared shortly before Kaon resurrected Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il in the year 2012. Since his resurrection, Kim Il-sung has possessed the power of nuclear fusion.

Recently, he constructed several nuclear reactors miles below the palace to use as an energy source.

Traits: Kim Il-sung is stately and businesslike, but also easygoing. In life, he often smiled, which is more difficult for him to do now because he had been dead for a long time and his body is still quite rigid. Additionally, like his son, he has become quite pale. He has slight psychological problems due to brain deterioration. He is compassionate and motherly, and won't shy away from praise, however excessive. He loathes when others withhold information from him, and can potentially have a mean temper. He prefers to have everything done his way. He often reminisces about the time he served his country as a freedom fighter, and longs for the "good old days" when his country prospered. He is well-traveled. He cares deeply about his family and his people. He thinks highly of his son, despite his shortcomings, and has written poetry about him.

Name: Kim Jong-il, Yuri Irsenovich Kim (김정일, Юрий Ирсенович Ким)
Age: 71 years old
Birthday: February 16
Sex: Male
Height: 160 cm (5 ft 2 in)
Weight: 77 kg (170 lbs)
Current Residence: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Pyongyang, DPRK

Bio: Kim Jong-il (often addressed as Yura by his family) is the eldest child of Kim Il-sung, with three siblings by his biological mother — two sisters, Kim Kyong-hui and Kim Song-hui, and one younger brother, Kim Pyong-il (deceased) — and one half-sister, Kim Kyong-jin, and two half-brothers, Kim Pyong-il (named after the drowned brother) and Kim Yong-il, by his stepmother. A popular tale in the DPRK states that a double rainbow and a new star appeared in the sky on the day of his birth on Mt. Paektu (though he was actually born in the Soviet Union, near Khabarovsk). He encouraged the dissemination of Juche thought throughout the DPRK and abroad, and passionately supported his father's leadership and endeavors. He graduated from Kim Il-sung University, the country's best institute of higher learning, and considered himself an "expert" on the cinema, writing on the subject and how to properly apply Juche theory to North Korean films. He also amassed an enormous collection of over 20,000 films from around the world during his lifetime.

Kim Jong-il helped to create the mind-rendingly extravagant cult of personality of his father (though they both denied such a personality cult existed). He initiated the construction of several important landmarks in Pyongyang, such as the Juche Tower, the Arch of Triumph (which stands larger than its French and Russian counterparts), and the statue of Kim Il-sung atop Mansu Hill (which now includes a statue of Kim Jong-il next to him). He and his father always worked together in a comradely fashion, and he stopped at nothing to please the Great Leader.

As the heir to the leadership, Kim Jong-il took power after his father died in 1994. However, his father's death impacted him greatly, and he became somber and reclusive. He implemented the Songun ("military first") system, which bestowed a great deal of power to the Korean People's Army (KPA). He seemed to become obsessed with nuclear missiles to counter perceived threats, and spent inordinate sums of money constructing facilities for building faulty nuclear technology instead of focusing on light industry and agriculture. His regime enjoyed less popularity than that of his father.

He died in December 2011 at the age of 69, leaving behind a shocked nation. Scientists also preserved him and placed him on display next to his father in the palace. However, Kaon resurrected him and his father in 2012 and granted him the power of nuclear fission, and he is required, at all times, to suppress this power. He does so by wearing a number of objects (which he cannot remove), such as his Kim Il-sung lapel pin, which Song-hui charmed through alchemy. He also has the ability to control the weather through his emotions, which often leads to terrible natural disasters due to his mental and emotional instability.

As he, like his father, is in a state of semi-retirement, he now occupies his time by learning nuclear physics.

Traits: Kim Jong-il is the exact opposite of his father. He is overbearing, reckless, and frivolous, and behaves like a spoiled prince. He is a notorious philanderer. He hoards money and uses it capriciously, and has spent ridiculous amounts of funds on gifts for the Great Leader. He is extremely jealous and protective of his father, interjecting in every matter involving him. He is very self-conscious about his height, wearing platforms no smaller than four inches tall and styling his hair to appear larger. He drinks like a fish and smokes like a chimney. He hates giving speeches and rarely appears in public. He is deathly afraid of airplanes. He is very sadistic and manipulative, and lacks the ability to empathize with anyone outside of his family. He is, however, a loving father to his son Jong-un.

Name: Kim Kyong-hui (김경희)
Age: 66 years old
Birthday: May 30
Sex: Female
Height: 165 cm (5 ft 4 in)
Weight: 59 kg (130 lbs)
Current residence: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Pyongyang, DPRK

Bio: Kim Kyong-hui is the third child of the DPRK's Eternal President, Kim Il-sung, after her eldest brother Kim Jong-il and her deceased elder brother Kim Pyong-il (also known as Shura). She also has a younger sister, Kim Song-hui, as well as one half-sister and two half-brothers. She became interested in studying magic while taking classes at Kim Il-sung University, and around the same time her younger sister Kim Song-hui began to study alchemy. She specializes in the school of illusion magic, and her powers increase with every alcoholic beverage she consumes. She chose illusion magic after working for a brief period of time in her country's propaganda department, and strove to create the "perfect socialist paradise" in which her father claimed his people lived. With her brother's assistance, she managed to create the prosperous world of their dreams. However, as it was just a fantasy built on unrealistic ideals, no one from outside the DPRK could see their socialist wonderland.

After her father died in 1994, she became a bit languid, causing her alcohol-fueled illusions to weaken and fade, revealing the truth underneath. Though her brother, the next leader of the DPRK, demanded that she preserve the illusions, she refused and began to distance herself from him, knowing that he could potentially threaten her life. When her brother passed away in 2011, she shattered the remaining illusions and began to form a closer bond with her nephew Kim Jong-un, the third leader of the DPRK, whom she continues to guide and mentor. She is the only family member to not take part in a contract with Kaon, and her health has begun deteriorating due to high exposure to nuclear radiation. She also resumed heavy drinking as a result of marriage issues with her husband Chang Song-taek and the death of her daughter.

Together with her sister Song-hui, she currently runs a restaurant that typically serves fast food, such as pizza and hamburgers. She also resumed training to strengthen her illusion magic abilities, and has developed the ability to read her brother's thoughts, due to their close relationship.

Traits: Although she has a bit of a drinking problem, Kim Kyong-hui is a very intelligent and powerful individual. As a four-star general, she holds a lot of influence in her country. She cares about her brother and often worries about him, and, in turn, she is the only one of his siblings that he can trust. She knows all of his secrets, something not even their father can truthfully say. She was once a strict parent. She refuses to take part in a contract with Kaon out of a desire to prove her strength without outside interference, despite Kaon's insistence.

Name: Kim Song-hui (김성희)
Age: 63 years old
Birthday: September 22
Sex: Female
Height: 162 cm (5 ft 3 in)
Weight: 57 kg (126 lbs)
Current residence: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Pyongyang, DPRK

Bio: Kim Song-hui is the youngest child of the marriage of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-suk, after two brothers (one of whom is deceased) and one sister. She also has one half-sister and two half-brothers, all of whom are younger, by her stepmother. She was always the studious type, locking herself away in her private library for days without emerging, while not in school. Her eyesight became weak due to her insisting on reading by candlelight. Song-hui dedicated a lot of her time to assisting her father in his work, and became just as concerned as her brother with preserving the Great Leader's longevity. After graduating from Kim Il-sung University, she traveled outside of her country in search of a way to render her father "immortal." While on a visit to the People's Republic of China, she consulted with Taoist alchemists who knew of a special medicine that granted eternal life. She returned to the DPRK with all the books on the subject she could find, and spent the next couple decades studying and acquiring ingredients, though her health steadily declined due to her use of toxic substances and she became unable to bear children. She also sought out several willing and unwilling test subjects for preliminary versions of the elixir of life to ensure the potion would not end up killing her father instead of prolonging his life, but each of her subjects perished from consuming harmful toxins.

Song-hui began to hear a strange, inhuman voice while buried in her studies, which often hinted at the location of a rare ingredient for the elixir of life. While she managed to create the elixir with the assistance of another alchemist in northern China, she did not deliver it to her father in time before he died. She decided to drink the elixir herself, not wanting her years of hard work and dedication to go to waste, and the owner of the voice then revealed themself to her. She had unknowingly summoned an ancient creature, named Kaon, after reading one of the many esoteric texts she gathered over the years. In exchange for Kaon's services in providing Song-hui with a means to create the elixir, Kaon coerced Song-hui into serving as the former's loyal minion for all eternity. Then an immortal outcast from society, and branded a traitor by her brother, she went into hiding near Mongolia until she finally decided, 20 years later, to return to the DPRK. Her nephew Kim Jong-un warmly received her, forgiving her for defecting from the DPRK and welcoming her back into the family. Song-hui is still viewed as an outcast due to her immortality and refusal to marry (not to mention her inclination towards Western culture), but most of the DPRK's population has no idea that she once defected.

Currently, she is helping her sister Kyong-hui with her restaurant. She also produces herbal remedies and anti-radiation medicine for the DPRK citizens.

Kim Song-hui is not a real historical figure, but loosely based on a real-life occurrence. In September 1949, Kim Il-sung's wife Kim Jong-suk went to the hospital to give birth to their fourth child — a daughter. However, she died giving birth and their daughter was stillborn. Song-hui is meant to be that daughter, if she had lived.

Traits: Kim Song-hui is a prankster, often playing tricks on her brother, much to his displeasure. She is aware of his mild disdain for her. She is not skilled at conducting social interactions due to spending most of her life in her library, and another fraction of her life in the mountains. She smokes despite having asthma. She has a low pain tolerance, as consuming the elixir of life actually doubled the amount of pain she experiences from injuries. She is the weakest member of the family despite her immortality, and is not skilled in offensive magic.

Name: Kim Jong-un (김정은)
Age: 29 years old
Birthday: January 8
Sex: Male
Height: 175 cm (5 ft 7 in)
Weight: 95 kg (210 lbs)
Current Residence: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, Pyongyang, DPRK

Bio: Kim Jong-un is the youngest son of Kim Jong-il and currently the youngest world leader. He has one half brother, Kim Jong-nam (who is currently living in either Macau or Singapore); one full brother, Kim Jong-chol; and one younger sister, Kim Yo-jong. In his youth, he studied in Switzerland under the pseudonym Pak Un, and graduated from Kim Il-sung University as an adult. Following his father's death in 2011, he assumed control over the DPRK, and seems to be trying to emulate his grandfather, Kim Il-sung. He has begun to initiate agricultural and industrial reforms within the DPRK with the help of his powerful uncle, Chang Song-taek (Kim Kyong-hui's husband), and has also called on China for assistance.

The propaganda machine of the DPRK praises Kim Jong-un as a military genius. Though he has been a four-star general since age 13, he has no actual military experience. He does, however, possess a scientific mind. Following the receipt of his cold fusion manipulation abilities from Kaon (who also re-animated his predecessors), he began to use his powers for the benefit of his people and ushered in a new nuclear-based Industrial Revolution for the DPRK. Those without electricity finally had power, and living conditions began to improve with the introduction of new technology. Kim Jong-un focused on reforming the economy, specifically the agricultural sector, and began building satellites and rocketships for space exploration. He had finally attained some semblance of the "perfect socialist paradise" his grandfather sought to create.

Lately, he has had the opportunity to relax a bit with the de-escalation of tensions on the peninsula, and has resumed guiding the DPRK's technological revolution.

Traits: Kim Jong-un is relaxed and (usually) cheerful, and also extremely knowledgeable. He has a degree in physics. He is quite impressionable due to his youth and inexperience as a leader, and attempted to emulate his father in order to please him. He drinks heavily on occasion, but smokes lightly. He is painfully shy when conducting potentially romantic interactions, and is quite prudish. He spends a lot of time in his laboratory, but often visits workplaces to provide on-the-spot guidance, as his grandfather once did. He holds his predecessors in high regard. He is very close to his aunts. He loves eating. He has the tendency to succumb to pressure.

One of your characters has my middle name XD
I really appreciate the detail you've gone into here. I know it takes skill to fit actual events and personality traits into your own interpretation (which you've done beautifully, by the way), and it just reminds me how much more Vlad-studying I need to do!
