something or things go wrong and someone blames everyhting on his/herself, evne if he/she's not related to all the events, and while they think they are doing a good thing by pushing all the blame unto themselves, in the end everything is still revolving around them, it is still selfish in a self-deprecating(?) way, so no good is being done by blaming everything on yourself especially when you're not involved or the problem is not about you
if this person tends to be selfish in a subtle way during normal activity, times like these only add to his/her selfishness; trying to be selfish through modesty or such? or just self-deprecation or self-pity or trying to evoke feelings of pity, like i said
