Draconia St. George
September 12
What a difference a week makes!

Last week I was feeling lowest of the low, more worm than dragon. If Uncle Wocky had let me, I would have buried myself in books in my room just like he did once. When he saw me dragon myself out of bed (hee hee) the day after my 'hallway hullabaloo,' he told me that I had to go out there with my chin held high or else I wouldn't be able to look at myself in the mirror anymore.

(Uncle Wocky is very big on mirror-related wisdom. He used to travel around giving talks about normie/dragon relations and used a mirror as a prop. His speeches inspired many writers of the time.)

I knew he was right, so I have been powering through the school days with my head held up...but still sitting in the back, trying not to be noticed. But it gets harder and harder to avoid being noticed, for two reasons:

1) Drama class is FUN! It turns out that we have to read the classics before we perform them, and we're reading all of the books I love. Shakesfeare's plays and sonnets, especially. Draculaura is the clear leader of the class, and to hear her stand and recite is amazing. She has also been so friendly to me, giving me good advice when I am nervous about speaking in front of so many people, and not minding at all the time I knocked her off the stage with my wings.

2) Glen DaWest. This boy is completely barking mad, and if you had asked me what I thought of him a week ago, I would have spit out words so hot that they would have set this page on fire. The very next day after he got me into such trouble in the hallway, can you believe that he waved at me in the Creepateria during lunch? Like I was going to sit next to his group of friends. So I deliberately pretended I didn't see him and sat in a far corner of the Creepateria. I wasn't sitting for two minutes when suddenly he was sitting there beside me, abandoning all of his other friends.

I thought for certain that he was going to mock me or tease me about not being able to fly, but instead he wanted to know all about me. He was completely different than I expected him to be. Still totally mad, but at least not mean.

Draculaura missed Drama class today because of a fainting spell in the bathroom. It made me extra nervous, because she wasn't there cheering me on when I did my speech from "The Faerie Queene," but I took one of her tips and imagined that everyone in the audience was wearing rubber chicken suits. Call it strange, but it relaxed me right up to think of something so absurd, and the speech went off without a hitch.

After school, one of the zombies came into The Looking Glass and asked permission to hang up a poster advertising a comic book club that meets after school. I'm sort of considering going...I know Hellene is a member of the club because she is always trying to get me to read mon-ga from Japan. She says it's the beast, but I still think the Freaktastic Four is my favourite.

Oh, one more thing....Glen has offered to give me a flying lesson after school, too. He keeps bringing it up and I've politely turned him down, but it couldn't hurt to try once before we do it in class...could it?
