Viviana Merquise has, in spite of being often poor and confused, lived a charmed life. Her early years were spent on the Material Plane known as Earth, her time on this plane was constantly swept up by the revolutions and rebellions of its human, mortal citizens.
She wandered, a drifter and vagabond, staying ever close to streams and oceans. In the 500 odd years she dwelled upon the plane of Earth she served as a bar-tender, a sea-farer, a soldier, and a spy. She developed a love for Philosophy and baking and became excellent at whistling.
She performed admirably as a duelist aboard a Pirate Ship, she served dutifully in Napoleon’s Grande Armie and she was the perfect double agent for the Bolsheviks right up until the event known as the Second World War. On Earth, Viviana was close to invincible although she had no real understanding of the depths of her powers, only that she was long lived, that she craved blood and that she loved the water.
It was not until she was thrust by God knows which deity onto the material plane of Gaia that she truly became aware of her capabilities. Gaia was a plane filled with other creatures as supernatural and powerful as she was. To survive she was forced to draw on ancient reservoirs of power she had never been aware of before. It did not take long for the Lamia to attract the attentions of one alarmingly deceptive and charming Fiend, Vansin.
Recruited by Vansin to serve as First Officer aboard the V.S.S Capita, and bound by her own emotions to serve him faithfully, Viviana has shown will and temerity greater than even she thought possible. She has even slain a powerful aspect of the Fiend himself, to assist in his escape from the demi-plane prison of Edgehelm.
She has saved the lives of innocents, consorted with Angels, destroyed unholy artefacts and been banished to the Abyss not once, but twice. She has reigned undefeated for an entire year upon the Abyssal plane in its gruesome Blood Arena and she has defeated and consumed the powers of the Demon Prince who kept her prisoner there.
She is a complete contradiction, and yet she maintains a perfect sense of balance within herself. She possess a fierce devotion to the Arch Fiend, Vansin and despite ample acts of malice and cruelty, retains a touching humanity which makes her beloved by all the crew aboard the Capita and within the Signet.
Viviana is a natural predator, her body has been designed to allow her maximum speed and dexterity. She possess a musculo-skeletal system similar to a snake, infrared heat sensors along her cheek and brow bone and in the back of her neck and tactile scales across her skin which are invisible when in her humanoid form. Her natural speed and stealth make her an ideal duelist and she offers no quarter in combat with her blades or with her bite attack.
Hybrid Form (Su): At will Viviana can transform into a Lamia, her size increases to large (as well as any equipment she is wearing or holding, or that which cannot be carried is merged into her new form). The lower portion of her body becomes a massive serpent tail, and her serpentine features become more pronounced she is covered from her collarbone down to the tip of her tail in silvery white scales and the ridges along her cheeks and forehead become more pronounced. Her fangs elongate and she gains a forked tongue. In her Hybrid form Viviana is almost 7 feet tall and weighs 850lb.
Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, Viviana must hit with her tail slap attack. She can then attempt to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. If she wins the grapple check, she establishes a hold and can constrict.
Constrict (Ex): Viviana deals 2d8+26 points of damage with a successful grapple check.
Poison (Ex): Injury, Fortitude DC 27, initial damage Paralysis, secondary damage 1d6 Con. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Energy Drain (Su): Viviana drains energy from a mortal she succeeds in biting, or grappling. Viviana’s bite or embrace bestows one negative level. The DC is 22 for the Fortitude save to remove a negative level. The save DCs are Charisma-based.
Regeneration (Ex): Viviana takes normal damage from cold iron weapons, and from spells. All other damage is treated as non-lethal damage
Breath Weapon (Su): In hybrid form Viviana has a breath weapon (Acid, Line 20ft)
Spell-Like Abilities: At will— Tounges ; 3/day— Etheral Jaunt, Improved Invisibility
Sneak Attack: If Viviana can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from her attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage.
Viviana’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when Viviana flanks her target. This extra damage is 8d6 . Should Viviana score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied.
Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
With a sap (blackjack) or an unarmed strike, Viviana can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. She cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual -4 penalty.
Viviana can sneak attack only living creatures with discernible anatomies—undead, constructs, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures lack vital areas to attack. Any creature that is immune to critical hits is not vulnerable to sneak attacks. Viviana must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. Viviana cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment or striking the limbs of a creature whose vitals are beyond reach.
Trapfinding: Viviana can use the Search skill to locate traps when the task has a Difficulty Class higher than 20.
Finding a nonmagical trap has a DC of at least 20, or higher if it is well hidden.
Finding a magic trap has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.
Because she is a rogue Viviana can use the Disable Device skill to disarm magic traps. A magic trap generally has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.
If Viviana beats a trap’s DC by 10 or more with a Disable Device check, she can study a trap, figure out how it works, and bypass it (with her party) without disarming it.
Evasion (Ex): Viviana can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if Viviana is wearing light armor or no armor. If she is helpless Viviana does not gain the benefit of evasion.
Trap Sense (Ex): Viviana has an intuitive sense that alerts her to danger from traps, giving her a +5 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +5 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps.
Uncanny Dodge (Ex): Viviana can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, she still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized.
Improved Uncanny Dodge (Ex): Viviana can no longer be flanked.
This defense denies another rogue the ability to sneak attack her by flanking her, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than Viviana does.
Defensive Roll (Ex): Viviana can roll with a potentially lethal blow to take less damage from it than she otherwise would. Once per day, when she would be reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by damage in combat (from a weapon or other blow, not a spell or special ability), Viviana can attempt to roll with the damage. To use this ability, Viviana must attempt a Reflex saving throw (DC = damage dealt). If the save succeeds, she takes only half damage from the blow; if it fails, she takes full damage. She must be aware of the attack and able to react to it in order to execute her defensive roll—if she is denied her Dexterity bonus to AC, she can’t use this ability. Since this effect would not normally allow a character to make a Reflex save for half damage, Viviana’s evasion ability does not apply to the defensive roll.
Weapon Finesse (Ex): Viviana gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat
Grace (Ex): Viviana gains a +3 competence bonus on Reflex saves, she loses this bonus when wearing medium or heavy armour or when carrying a medium or heavy load.
Insightful Strike (Ex): Viviana is able to place her finesse attacks where they deal greater damage. She applies her Intelligence bonus as a bonus on damage rolls (in addition to her Strength bonus). Targets immune to sneak attacks or critical hits are immune to the insightful strike. Viviana cannot use this ability when wearing medium or heavy armour or when carrying a medium or heavy load.
Dodge Bonus (Ex): Viviana is trained at focusing her defences on a single opponent in melee. During her action, she may designate an opponent and receive a +2 dodge bonus to Armour Class against melee attacks from that opponent. She can select a new opponent on any action. Viviana loses this bonus when wearing medium or heavy armour or when carrying a medium or heavy load.
Acrobatic Charge (Ex): Viviana can charge in situations where others cannot.
She may charge over difficult terrain that normally slows movement or allies blocking her path. This ability enables her to run down steep stairs, leap down from a balcony, or to tumble over tables to get to her target. Depending on the circumstance, she may still need to make appropriate checks (Jump or Tumble checks, in particular) to successfully move over the terrain.
Improved Flanking (Ex): When Viviana is flanking an opponent she gains a +4 bonus on attacks instead of a +2 bonus on attacks. (Other characters flanking with her don’t gain this increased bonus.)
Hellforged Chest Plate: This glamoured chest plate is fashioned from steel forged and tempered in the pits of Baator. A gift to Viviana from her master and lover Vansin. She wears it beneath her clothing or uses its glamour to have it look however she wishes. It grants her a +10 armour bonus to her AC
Ring of the Venom Signet: One of the fabled rings of the Venom Signet, Viviana’s ring can only be commanded by the Fiend himself. The ring allows Viviana to invade the thoughts of those who wear the keyed Lesser Rings of the Venom Signet, as well as cause them pain, impart spell-like abilities into them and communicate telepathically over any distance (While still on the same plane). The Lesser Ring's union with the Ring of the Venom Signet confers the bonuses of an arcane mark spell for the purposes of scrying and teleporting.
Lame de la Mer (Blade of the sea): This +3 Sylvan Sabre of Speed grants Viviana access to the cleave feat whenever she uses it within 10 miles of a body of water as well as allowing her to function under the effects of a permanent Haste spell. An intricate pattern of rolling waves is carved along the weapons silver blade.
Destins jouer (Fates gamble): Made from an adamantium alloy, this small +2 keen stiletto is Viviana’s favoured off hand weapon. It is a beautifully crafted sword with a sizeable black pearl at its top to serve as its hilt. The Lamia conceals it in all manner of places on her person and it is her blade of choice when employing tactics such as a feint.
Jumelle étoiles (Twin stars): These two +4 star metal daggers are almost white in colour and there blades are engraved with the stars from the Gemini constellations. They are imbued with the essence of pure, holy goodness and strike against any evil or undead creature dealing an additional +3d6 damage which bypasses damage reduction.
