The heavy smell of smoke
and sex
cloy the air.

And suddenly
the aphrodisiac
the head-spinning euphoria of being
here
gets to me.

Bones may crush
and bruises melt into
sighs
and an indifferent hand strokes
my hair
and I can almost make myself
believe.

There's a glorious scent
and something green
and a smile;
Contented laughter that confuses
a mattress accustomed to tears.

And shattered glass
nor indifference
can sway me from my addiction to your cruelty.
