So! At long last, I decided to part ways with the moderation team at Gaia Online.
No worries, it was my own decision to leave. I just don't have the time or passion for it as I once did. What was once exciting and challenging has unfortunately become a chore and I don't believe there is anything left for me to contribute in my position as global moderator.
When I first started as a moderator in March of 2004, there was no report system. Even forum specific rules were few and far between! Gaming Discussion, Video Game Discussion as it was then known, first had forum specific rules on April 5, 2004. From the beginning Ryonin and I as well as others worked hard to make the rules of the forum make sense. With the addition of Malee in August 2004 we became a formidable team. And never once did we use the crutch of old rules or traditions to make decisions, always keeping a vigilant eye on the forum to watch out for problems and not hesitating to propose solutions when one turned up.
On January 27, 2005, I was chosen to be one of the site's first global moderators. Cool name, isn't it? And it gave me the opportunity to be able to help users even more. My beloved teal name was a nice bonus as well. Our small but sturdy Gaming Discussion team continued to weather the blockbuster games that flooded the forum, making it through with sticky posts and dedicated reporters. In time the awesome helpers Seikishi and Lethe03 were added to help us out. As helpers then mod assistants and finally forum assistants their efforts have contributed to the overall health of the forum quite a bit.
And despite many good times, all things must eventually come to an end. And I thought it would be best to end things responsibly rather than avoid the issue until my eventual removal.
And what does this change you ask? Absolutely nothing. I'm not leaving the site and I doubt my habits will change at all. When I became a moderator my personality didn't conform to a set standard so my usual stubborn and cheeky self that was around before and during isn't going anywhere.
I do feel a pang of regret that as a result Gaming Discussion is likely to suffer in the absence of Ryo and myself, but we held out as long as we could as a bastion of sanity and common sense. Though we were often made out to be villains, we never did anything but stand up for what was right.
So thank you to the original admins that handpicked me for this opportunity and thank you to the original moderators of 2003 that inspired me to want to make this site a better place with my actions. I do believe that I'm leaving the position with a great amount of accomplishment and I hope I've made you proud.
Thank you very much!
