Photo retouching normally means digitally "amending" or "modifying. To retouch means to alter the original photo using a photo-editing program such as Adobe Photoshop (the global standard in graphics editing for photographers and graphic designers alike).
The reason for retouching photos is to make the image more beautiful and/or improve it, all the while keeping the image true to the original. The way to do that is to adjust the basic elements, the brightness, contrast, color and so on. Or possibly enlarging a very small image, so that the details can be viewed better. Or be creative by manipulating it and making it a work of art.
Above is an image of Amy Lee, singer from Evanescene. The before is the original photo that I found online and the after is the retouch version that I did. I just wanted to show people that, not only can I draw but I'm also capable of retouching photos and doing more then just that.
Here's another one.
P.S. If anyone likes Amy Lee, I can make an icon out of the retouch photos for you.
