Takarashi's Introspection
"Ever wonder what it's like to live in a world filled with such vast power and wonder, such beautiful lands and dark secrets, such magic and unexplainable phenomena, only to tell other people that you're a run of the mill human?

I gotta say, it's interesting to be a minority in such a world. What some take for granted is a challenge to live by in every day life. What does a long distance matter when you can run at the speed of a bullet, fly over any terrain, or even just create a portal to where ever you have to go? I tell you, walking sucks. Yeah, there's still the marvel of automobiles and other such wonderful things, but they're in short supply. I mean really short. I sometimes step onto a street and wonder if I'll even see a car pass by that day.

But hey, a world teeming with such endless possibilities isn't so bad. With certain necessities no longer an issue like transport, shelter, heat, even food and water, all that really remains is attaining knowledge for higher understanding, perfecting our physical condition, and of course, entertainment. It would probably be paradise if all of this weren't true for people that have less than desirable intentions as well. I'm talking of course about 'evil' people. You know the type. They go around blowing up towns and killing people. Being that necessities aren't an issue for them either, it's usually out of boredom, a desire for more power, or the simple enjoyment of seeing others suffer. It's spawned some rather twisted people really. Imagine someone killing you not for the money in your pocket, but because they want to see you in pain? It's messed up I tell you.

Now, you may wonder why a guy like me even exists in a world like this. A bum looking for any handouts he can get, always wanting to repay his debts, and hiding from my own shadow (literally man, I'll tell you more about it some other time). There's countless amounts of magic artifacts floating around and means to infuse yourself with all these abilities through things like Alchemy, or even upgrading to something more like an android through the power of science. Well, there's two reasons really. One is that it helps me to appreciate who I am, what I'm given, and what I'm able to do. If something were to ever happen to strip everyone of their power, I could almost guarantee that most everyone would just roll over and die. They wouldn't have any clue how to survive without all their little conveniences. This way, regardless of how harsh the world gets, I'm on my toes and ready to live. The second reason for this is that it helps to keep me anonymous and hidden from the world. Who's going to look for a guy that can't do anything? Why would you ever suspect someone of -anything- when any random person standing just off to the side can summon giant meteors in the sky at the snap of their fingers? It lets me do whatever I have to do with little fear of being caught. I admit, this has lead me to doing some unpleasant things, namely stealing. That's just the way things are, though.

Phew. That's enough out of me. That's a glimpse into my mind. Come back another time, I may have more to tell you of what it's like to be normal. If it interests you."

Taka clicked the 'record' button of the tiny tape recorder and ejected the tape. Pretty old fashioned tech at this point, but hey, it was free. Can't argue that. He stuffed the tape in a box, put the recorder in his pocket, and left. Where he was, none could say.
