The next few years were somewhat of a blur for her. She had taken her time, insinuating herself into Colum’s enemies’ camps, one by one. She had taken to disguising her hair and eyes on a regular basis, and, she had found, it was fairly easy to get in good with the head men. Men, she had found, were more likely than not to preen under compliments. As long as she had them talk about themselves, all she had to do was look interested.
And so it went, she would establish herself as a person of trust to the head man, do a few jobs for him, and thus make herself indispensable. Little did these men know that their careless touching made her skin crawl and her mind seethe with rage. Somewhere along the way she had become hard…hard and uncaring about anything but avenging Colum.
She had also taken the time to make sure each one would die in a different way. She was not about to become some person that could be found just because of a pattern to the way she would rid herself of an enemy. Once she had rid the world of the people on her list, she sold all her belongings and disappeared to Japan.
She had told her mother that she had an opportunity to work overseas and would be gone for a while. Her mother never asked questions about her supposed job, just took everything Kat told her at face value. She was too busy living in the past with Kat’s father’s memory.
She decided to reside in Tokyo, and found a small apartment that would suit her needs. Once she was settled in, she went and pulled out a notebook that Colum had given her a long time ago. In it was names of people he had done business with, people he trusted. She was hoping to make contact with Makoto Shigeru, one of the most prominent businessmen in Tokyo. It was rumored he had ties to the Yakuza, but nothing had ever been proven.
She knew that she was going to have to be careful in the way she approached this man. One just didn’t go up to someone of his power and strike up a casual conversation. She had plenty of money…she would take her time and research everything she could about the man and then come up with a way to meet him.
She started going out to the exclusive nightclubs he was known to frequent. This was one of the few times she went without some sort of wig, her bright red hair standing out among the sea of brunettes. She figured sooner or later she would get her chance to meet him.
She was right, and her chance to meet Shigeru-san would come when she met Kaoru Takeshi. Kaoru would be the one who would change her world in a very short time.
