Wherever Elepon goes he is viewed as cursed, an unwanted ill omen in an already damned nation. Trapped in limbo between the real world and the ether, his body and mind play host to a parasitic spirit: Promethius, a creature seemingly hell bent on destroying him, and the unlikely partnership outcasts him from society. But having power over the underworld comes with an even harsher cost; Elepon is slowly being driven to insanity and death, and he is dragging the people he cares for down with him.
Through manipulation and the need for survival, Elepon and Promethius find themselves wading waist deep through the bloodied criminal underground, dogged by their only friend and companion, Khomal, and the ragtag cohort that they pick up through their journeys. Fearing a tortured afterlife, Elepon obsessively seeks to push Promethius back into the spirit world, all the while being thrust into a fierce political battle in which he unwittingly becomes a key player of.
The problem is that he'd rather continue living as an outcast than free his country from the totalitarian rule of the empire. But when the entire nation pins all their hopes on a vagabond mercenary who's caustic bark is just as deadly as his pistol, there is little room for discussion, and Elepon will need to put aside his fears, insecurities and selfishness to find the freedom and self discovery that he longs for.
