Some art and avatars I've made over the years.
Just a Target
A target. That's all it was. You're silly, she thought to herself. Look at it, it doesn't even look human. It's a disgusting beast.
She sat there, with the wind, which was only a light breeze, at her back. She was motionless. The beast dragged its feet sluggishly along the ground, as if it were walking through a deep puddle of mud and s**t. Of course, that couldn't be much worse than the actual terrain. Mostly everything outside of the Three Cities stank like oil and eggs that had spoiled a year back. That was the sulfur in the air.
She could tell the beast was hungry. It was looking for something to eat, but there was nothing around. Even from where she was positioned, she could hear the hideous snarling it made as it took in each breath from the gill-like organs on either side of its neck.
Her eye twitched, but she kept perfect aim - straight for where the brain stem stops and the brain starts. Instant kill. The breeze only gently disturbed her dirty blond hair. She felt it tickling against her neck. She felt a bead of sweat trickling down her temple and down to her ear, where it lost its momentum and stopped. She heard the barely audible static mumble of the electronic scope on her military grade sniper rifle. Then, for a single moment, she felt as if everything were still.
In that single speck of time, she had a flashback to her childhood...confined behind bars in a government lab, being tested on like some kind of lab rat, crying for help as she saw the security guard heading toward her cell again. Like the sick bastards they were, the other security guards either pretended awkwardly like they weren't paying attention, or just watched with those expressionless eyes. Backing into a corner, she begged for him to stop, for him to go away, for someone to help. Of course, like usual, her pleas for mercy were not answered. She tried next to fight him off physically, even though she knew she had no chance. She was, however, only 9 years old. He covered her mouth to muffle her screams as he had her way with her, the creepers on the other side of the cell watching with those expressionless eyes, like the sick bastards they were.
She felt the wind on her back once again, and pulled the trigger.
Just a target.
