Without James... is now abandonned :D
Preliminary...

^^
Hi.
This is a fanfiction story I am writing out of boredom and love... Mostly the latter. As you know (or may not know) I am a Harry Potter fanatic. Lucky for me, the movies always tend to come out near my birthday.(or in summer...) Anywho. I am writing a story now that's been in my head for quite some time... Actually a few minutes...
It is a Romance Story in the Marauders Time period. It will contain Yaoi. Just sayin... The pairings I'm creating will be Lily/Severus and Remus/Sirius. In this story, for some reason, James has been expelled, thus allowing the previous pairings to work. It is their third year in Hogwarts, and yeahh...

Prologue

"You are hearby expelled mister James Potter." Professor McGonagal snapped shrewdly. James had purposefully set fire to a some of her belongings, including a photograph. He'd been on her nerves all week and the other teachers, even Slughorn, were just waiting for the moment he was taken out of school. One of them just needed a big incident, not his petty bullying or sneaking out. McGonagal was the poor one to recieve one of his bigger blows.

"Expelled? No, I just- I... It wasn't supposed to happen!" James shreiked, his face losing colour. "I- I can't be expelled. My mother... What will my parents think?" He went a bit rigid, and shook.

"Hopefully, they will think more highly then most of us do. Now go pack up your things, and come down to the Entrance Hall. Dumbledore and I will be there to escort you out." McGonagal dropped a book on her desk and briskly walked out of the room. James continued standing there for almost a quarter hour before pulling himself up and walking out to the hall. Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin, his best friends, were outside in the corridor.

"What's happened?" Remus asked concerned.

"Ah.. He probably just has detention.. It wasn't terribly severe.." Sirius said laying on the ledge of a window. James answered neither question and only leaned against the door. His silenced caused Sirius to raise up to his elbows and look at least slightly more concerned. Remus walked over and knelt beside him.

"James.. Come on now, tell us you just have detention.." Sirius said pulling himself into a sitting position. James looked up at his two best friends, one after the other, and his eyes brimmed with tears.

"It burnt... It burnt some precious photo of her and her mum.. I guess her mum's dead... But she got really sensitive about it... and...-" James said quietly.

"And? She gave you detention. Right? Lots of..detentions?" Sirius said standing and walking over. James answered him by looking up at him and sighing.

"How are you going to get out of this one..." Remus said falling back into a sitting posistion. James looked at his wolfy friend and smiled.

"That's the problem, I don't think I can... All the teachers want me out, as well as most of the students.. Just you two... And Pettigrew and... Lily..." James trailed off looking out the window, thinking of his friend Lily, whom he'd developed a serious crush on. "I think I'd better just go.. Get out, y'know? I can't stay here... Not when I've been- well... And my things are all over the dormitory."

"We'll come with you." Remus said, standing up like Sirius and holding out his hand to help his fallen friend up.

"No. Guys, come on, there has to be a way around this.. Maybe Dumbledore will want you to stay? And Lily needs you here, you know how that creepy Snape character's always following her.. With out you he might.. Y'know... Hurt her or whatever's on his snakey mind. Or maybe Slughorn-" Sirius was cut off my a slamming of a door further down the corridor. Severus Snape, the snake himself, briskly walked towards them. He sneered in a demeaning manor at them and passed. But he paused, after he had looked at James, and turned back.

"What's your problem, Potter?" He said shrewly, crossing his arms and looking at him.

"Nothing that concerns the likes of you, Snape." Remus said standing in front of him crossing his arms as well.

"I don't believe I was talking to you." Snape said slowly and menacingly. He was very thin, and worn startlingly large clothes, but his eyes were night black which helped to intimidate others, since his physical appearance did not. Remus looked at James and Sirius before turning back to Snape. Severus raised his eyebrows waiting for Remus to move, and was almost surprised when he didn't.

"I was talking to Potter. You need to move so I may speak to him." Snape comically inflated his chest and extended his knees so he looked a bit bigger than he was. Remus looked at Sirius, who shrugged, so he backed down from Snape.

"May as well let him know, he'd tell Lily.. It'd be easier if we didn't have to face her with out her knowing... Right?" Sirius rationalized looking at James.

"What happened?" Snape said again, with a twinge of concern in his voice. Mostly because it involved Lily, but a slight bit was for Potter himself. Snape was a halfblood and therefore looked up to people like James, for having a pure blood line.

"I was expelled." James said weakly. He stood up quickly and left, walking rapidly out to the courtyard and into another hall. Remus and Sirius almost followed him..

"Expelled? What the hell for? What did he do? Why-... Wow..." Snape said, his voice filled completely with concern.

"He set some of McGonagal's things on fire, as a joke sorta, but it got out of hand and burnt stuff it wasn't supposed to." Remus explained staying back. Sirius had now followed James into the next corridor leaving Remus and Severus alone. "Look could you.. Could you tell Lily for us? And- and maybe the Peter kid, if you see him. Their the only people who really like James, or us, and you're closer to Lily than us anyway... Could you?" Remus walked backwards, looking at Snape, who nodded meakly his mouth agape. Remus grinned a little, not having many personal issues with this Slytherin, and took off towards the next corridor.

Severus stood there for a few moments, worried about James. Lily and James' gang were the only students that ever really noticed he existed, other than a fellow Slytherin, and now one of them was gone. It was a bit hard on Snape, almost like losing a friend that you never really liked. He turned around and walked back through where he came from, going to the library to find Lily again. He wandered up staircases til he came to the library and he went inside, finding Lily sitting with a group of Gryffindor girls.

"Lily.. I, uh, have to talk to you." He said shoving his hands in his pockets when all the other girls looked at him rather dirtily. Lily shrugged and stayed where she was, waiting for him to say what ever he needed to say. "In- erm... Private?" He said, ignoring the sheer cackle from one of the other girls. She stood up and walked behind a bookshelf with him, and her friends' started whispering, though they were very audible.

"Yeah, what's up?" Lily said stuffing her thumbs in her back pocket.

"It was.. It's about James. He- he's been expelled." Severus spoke quietly and never made eye contact. Lily raised her eyebrows, obviously thinking it was a joke. She looked at him confounded, then narrowed her eyes and glared.

"You know Severus, sometimes you're cool. Other times, you're sick. You have a very sick sense of humor Sev, and I am most definately not laughing." Lily said articulately. She turned around and grabbed her books, her friends quiet after hearing what she said. She looked back at Severus. "I'm off to find James, and find out what he did- or said- that could've made you try and tell me that." She angrily stomped off through the library door, shoving past Peter Pettigrew.

He looked at Severus anxiously.

"Remus said you were looking for me?" Pettigrew said in a small voice. Severus rolled his eyes and started walking out towards the door, following Lily.

"Follow me." He said loudly, and beckoned Peter to follow him. Snape found where Lily was and followed her through several corridors before coming to a fat lady portrait. Lily said something and the portrait swung back, allowing her access.

"That's the... That's your dormitory?" Severus said looking at Pettigrew. He nodded vigorously and started to say something before Snape cut him off- "You need to go in there, and get all you're little friends, and bring them out here. Do you understand?" Snape looked at him with a severe look, clearly causing great fear, since Pettigrew nodded again and scurried inside. Severus sat outside the dorms for a while before James, Remus, Sirius, Lily, and Peter emerged. Lily and James were involved in a loud argument, and Sirius was talking quietly to Remus, no doubt plotting on ways to keep James at Hogwarts.

"Okay." Serverus said loudly, gaining the attention of the five Gryffindors. James crossed his arms, and Lily looked at him apologetically. "James is in deep, and I want him to go about as much as you want him to go-"

"What are you talking about Snape, you'd love a school without me." James said harshly, turning away from him.

"I would've loved a school without you ever, but since you've been in my hair three years I almost... Nevermind. The point is, Potter belongs here, and we don't want him to go. Suggestions?" Snape said, spitting at James' name.

"The only way we could get out of this is begging with the professors. Severus, Slughorn is very clearly fond of you, so you ought to go and talk to him. I like to consider myself close to McGonagal, so I'll try and reason with her, though I don't know why I should." Lily turned and snapped the last bit at James, who stepped back. She calmed her expression and looked at Remus and Sirius. "You two had better talk to Dumbledore, he'll be the main man we can use to keep James here. And Pettigrew... You'd better stay here. Maybe talk to other students." Lily said tenatively at the weak Peter Pettigrew. He shrank a little, noticing her hostility.

They all separated and found the proffessors, trying to talk them into keeping James. The only one that had any luck was Severus, who talked about how James had said he had hopes to be in the Slug Club someday. Professor Slughorn said he'd talk to Dumbledore after he graded potion's tests.

After failed attempts to find any of his other..friends.. Severus stalked slowly off to the Great Hall where the students were gathering for dinner. The whole of the Gryffindor table was talking about James. Severus noticed this, and that only Lily and Remus were present. He grinned and nodded in their direction. Lily smiled weakly and shrugged while Remus sighed, obviously not having the luck he had had. Sirius followed Dumbledore in, talking rapidly, and Pettigrew walked in almost late. He sat next to Regulus Black, his only other real friend, and Regulus laughed at how James was leaving tonight. Though someone could still save him, it was looking bleak since Dumbledore shooed Sirius off to the Gryffindor table. James still hadn't shown up, and McGonagal was missing as well til near the end of dinner, when desert was already appearing. Severus straighted his back anxiously as James walked in the room, everyone growing quiet. Obviously it had spread that he was expelled. A few Gryffindors stood up, looking solemn, and James' expression wasn't much better. He quietly sat at the end of the Gryffindors' table, away from his friends, next to the Quidditch team. A few older students patted him on the back.

The feast ended abruptly and Dumbledore dismissed them to their common rooms, then following McGonagal out to the Entrance Hall. James walked quietly after them. Severus ran to catch up to Lily, who was following James as well. There his friends stood, watching James gather his trunk which had been placed outside the Great doors. James walked over and hugged Sirius, his closest of friends, and muttering a farewell in his ear. He did the same for Remus, and Lily, though enraging Severus by kissing her on the cheek. He made a move as if he were about to hug Severus as well, but stopped. He walked halfway back towards the doors. Then he turned around and walked specifically over to Severus.

"You aren't really that bad... And I only made fun of you because you were Lily's friends and I... You know.." James said blushing and looking at Lily again. "I just want to be able to leave the school as friends, okay?" Severus held out his hand and James took it shaking it firmly.

"Friends then." Severus said smiling.

"Friends." James turned and walked away, out the doors and down the grass followed closely by Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and Professor Minevera McGonagal.
