Song of Solomon 1:starting at verse 8.
Solomon, the Lover, Speaks
8"[e]If you yourself do not know,
(R)Most beautiful among women,
Go forth on the trail of the flock
And pasture your young goats
By the tents of the shepherds.
King Solomon tells her where he lays his pastures.....
9"To me, (S)my darling, you are like
My (T)mare among the chariots of Pharaoh.
10"Your (U)cheeks are lovely with ornaments,
Your neck with strings of (V)beads."
Okay, that doesn't sound very complimenting, but if you read history, he's telling her, "You stand out" because the mare on his chariots were flashy, beautiful, and were easily pointed out among other horses.
11"[f]We will make for you ornaments of gold
With beads of silver."
12"[g]While the king was at his table,
My (W)perfume gave forth its fragrance.
Once again, she is so spacial to him that she deserves more than anyone can give her.
13"My beloved is to me a pouch of (X)myrrh
Which lies all night between my breasts.
14"My beloved is to me a cluster of (Y)henna blossoms
In the vineyards of (Z)Engedi."
Again, she means a TON to him, very clearly.
15"[h](AA)How beautiful you are, my darling,
How beautiful you are!
Your (AB)eyes are like doves."
16"[i]How handsome you are, (AC)my beloved,
And so pleasant!
Doves were considered the most beautiful creatures to the people there back then. King Solomon is complimenting her in an area where she is insecure. Any true man would do that for the woman he holds dear.
Basically, what happens in this whole book is you see the elements of attraction and you learn what Godly people (not just Godly people, but it also takes a truly Godly person to behave as such) will do to someone they love.
Sexual attraction is taught to be a bad thing before your married. They're's nothing wrong with sexual ATTRACTION before marriage. Actual sex, on the other hand.....that's a different story.....
