Wesden Girl
ramblings and pontification.....
new forums landing page - oy, the feedback
So the new (albeit temporary) forums landing page launched today and I'm amazed at the feedback. new vs old users, lovers vs haters, all of it icon_smile.gif

I know we're changing a lot on the site, but sites *evolve* and I see all the changes as improvements - that's why I work here - to make a better user experience.

We're already busy planning the permanent forums landing page and a better forums experience and know that no matter what we do, there will be positive and negative comments. I guess, i a twisted way, that's why I love Gaia, too - the passionate users who are never afraid to tell you what they think icon_smile.gif It would be bad if we had a community of users who just didn't care.

Anyway, back to forums!

It looks really good Wesden Girl! The only thing I'm worried about is the lack of forum descriptions under the forum links. I know you can hover & see them, but for new users, I doubt they'll see that. A lot of users also fail to read the stickies in forums. Without totally visible forum descriptions I can imagine more misplaced threads & spam threads in the wrong places ^^;; but I guess we'll see if that's the case : )

& I am looking forward to see what the newnewnew forum directory will look like, since this is temporary o3o <3

Negative comments? WTF?! This new forums page is clearly far superior to the old one.

Heh. Expect to see a lot of other sites' forum indexes change later, too. icon_pirate.gif

New forums look fantastic Wesden! A few tweaks will get them looking even sharper.

⟣˳I already said my piece in your comments.

But I do want to add something to this new update; update the forums as well. What I'm trying to say is, spread out to the other forums not just the main page. How? just changing the top of the forum. Just like how the new front has that great, um, banner thingy. Just add that to the others but with their name's and, of course, individual pictures on it. I hope I'm making myself clear icon_sweatdrop.gif

The point is, spread the greatness around! And like I said, the SF complains just to complain. And surprisingly enough, the GCD has no complaints. So as you're surfing though the SF for some good and relevant complaints/suggestions, head over to the GCD for a quick pick me up icon_xp.gif

EDIT : Or just have the other forums set up the same way. It only dawned on me after looking at the main page a little more. Instead of using that big banner, why not have it set up like the others?

The hover-over blue color on links has always seemed too light to me, and links such as the "Safety Tips" seem very hard to read when hovered over. Same with the hover-over color in the new header menu bar.

The page looks very nice though!

Why is the entertainment stuff up the top? Gaia isn't an "entertainment" website, no matter what you are trying to market it as.
After saying that; I quite like the new format of the forum landing page, it's the order of the forums that I dislike. xD

I'm usually very open to the changes applied to the site, and have stuck with them since I joined in 2004. This is the first change that I honestly disagree with, the same as your proposed changes to the way forums are navigated.

If you care to discuss it further please do not hesitate to PM me.

I figured, so the newbies would be able to find something familiar without scrolling. Newbies must be catered to, for they will leave a new site at the drop of a hat, while those who have invested are a bit more patient.

I, for one, like it as it makes much better use of space so I don't even have to scroll. Even though I am not a newbie.

I'm relieved you don't mind negative feed-back, because there sure has been a lot of it.
Personally I like the brightness of it ♥
thanks for your hard work :3
