Video Game Quiz: Fighting Games
Well I've pretty much accepted that all I ever want to talk about in my journal anymore is either video games, or RP stuff that you already know. So today, I have a quiz on the fighting genre of video games.

* By definition I'm talking about the games with health bars, K.O.s, Round 2's, etc. This is not to be confused with the Beat-'Em-Up genre (Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Simpsons arcade game, etc.)

* any Smash Bros. game and Power Stone games count.

1. What was the first fighting game you ever played?

2. What was the worst fighting game you ever played?

3. List your most annoying final boss in a fighting game and explain why.

4. What type of fighting game do you prefer? Strike-based (Tekken, Soul Calibur, etc.) or Combo-based (Guilty Gear, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc.)?

5. What type of player are you? Aggressive/offensive or defensive/tactical?

6. What type of characters do you tend to use? Do you go for the easy characters and stick with them, go for the character you like the best, go for the coolest/most unique style, or random?

7. Do you have an all-time favorite character in any fighting game? If so, why?

8. If they make another Super Smash Bros. game, what 1 additional character would you like in it?

9. Why do you like fighting games?

10. Hadouken or Falcon Punch?

11. What's your personal favorite controller for fighting games?

12. Ever play a fighting game at an arcade?

13. What do you consider "cheap" moves?

14. Did anyone else find it stupid that Heihachi from Tekken was the console-exclusive character for Soul Calibur II?

15. Do you have a question for me relating to fighting games? I'll answer it in a follow up comment.

    1. Street Fighter II: The World Warrior for SNES

    2. Shaq-Fu, although I still enjoyed it.

    3. Gill (Street Fighter III: Third Strike) - he can resurrect himself and you have to fight him twice in one round. Seriously, HAX!

    4. For the most part, combo-based. Though I like the other one too.

    5. it depends on my mood. Lately I've been more defensive, but I like to rush down and kick a** occasionally.

    6. I go for whatever playstyle is the most fun. In Street Fighter, it's the basic Ryu. While in BlazBlue, I chose the unique Rachel. It depends really.

    7. not really

    8. a close call between Mega Man and Travis Touchdown.

    9. They're the ultimate replay value game. You can play it whenever and always find new ways to play. The game also varies depending on who you play it with, so it's fun. Also, it's competition that I'm actually good at..... >_>

    10. Hadouken

    11. My arcade stick of course!

    12. yep

    13. infinate juggles and unfair advantages with unplayable bosses (I'm talking to you Night Terror). But neither of those apply to most situations so I guess not much else.

    14. Yes. He didn't even have an actual weapon. Should have been Devil May Cry's Dante....(at least the upcoming PSP Soul Calibur has God of War's Kratos)

    1. Battle Arena Toshinden 2

    2. Star Gladiator

    3. Boss mode Dizzy from Guilty Gear XX. She had health regen powers and an instant kill special move, now that's cheapness, even without counting the fact they amped up her normal attack power.

    4. Tough call. I enjoy both, but I'd say I enjoy Combo-Based games more.

    5. My playstyle is more on the aggressive side. Being defensive all the time bores me. >_<

    6. I always go for the characters I think are the coolest, regardless of much else.

    7. I don't have any one particular favourite character.

    8. Laharl from the Disgaea series, he'd own. XD

    9. Straightforward, no nonsense fun with senseless violence. Hardly ever get's old and good for getting the adrenalin going. ^_^

    10. Falcon Paunch!!

    11. Having only really used 2, I'm not quite sure. I guess it's the PS style controller for now. It's the most comfortable for me to use.

    12. A few times, though that was a good while ago.

    13. Instant kills or infinite juggles.

    14. Never really thought about it. Would have preferred Jin though.

    15. If you were to make a fighting game character out of yourself, what would he be like? What sort of Style/Theme or powers would he have?

    1. Mortal Kombat. My cousin used to set me up against his friends. At the time, we didn't have any consoles in the house, so I'd get so excited to play a videogame....and I'd demolish his friends in that game smilies/icon_xd.gif

    2. One of the Mortal Kombat ones for PS2 smilies/icon_xd.gif I can't remember which one, but you could use weapons if you felt like it. I dunno why I didn't like it that much....OH YEAH! Tony was soooooo much better than me because he owned it, so there was really nothing I could do but get my a** whupped smilies/icon_xp.gif But putting that aside, of the fighting games I've played, that one was the least interesting to me.

    3. Soul Calibur 3, Single Player story mode. That last area....yeah I've still yet to beat it smilies/icon_xd.gif It's soooo freakin hard! Basically I know "how" to do it...but I'll have to play through a whole new game to level my characters up enough to do it. So I just haven't had the motivation. *Adds SC3 to the list of vidjagames to get back to*

    4. I'd have to say Strike Based, because I haven't played the other kind smilies/icon_lol.gif

    5. I suppose I'm a bit more aggressive, though I try to be defensive too.

    6. I usually just use whichever characters I have the easiest time using. And sometimes it's funny how that works out. smilies/icon_xp.gif It's not too suprising that I use Talim a lot in Soul Calibur, but it's a coincidence that I favor the sweet/energetic female character, her bladed tonfa are just fun for me to use. I also use Kilik a lot in that game, again I'm just good with his weapon.

    7. Hmmm...Geez, I like freaking everybody in Soul Calibur smilies/icon_xd.gif My favorites would probably be....Talim, Yun-Seong, Seigfreid, Setsuka, Kilik, Yoshimitsu, Voldo.....it goes on and on

    8. Oh geez, a second one for Wii? Nintendo should cut a deal with Namco and put The Prince from Katamari in it. But since that'll never happen.....Neku! From TWEWY. That would be freakin awesome.

    9. Fighting games are a great way to blow off steam at the end of the day. It's probably not my favorite genre, but I love Soul Calibur because they stay really true to the unique fighting style of each weapon. Getting to match all those different weapons against each other is fun.

    10. AAAAAAAAAANDOKEN:
    (Tis a Heroes reference)

    11. Don't really have one. PS2 is the only one I've used. Arcade style is really fun, but I don't have much experience with them for fighting games....I do like arcade sticks though.

    12. Only ones like Ninja Turtles and Sailor Moon, which were sorta like "Streets of Rage".

    13. There is no such thing as a cheap move, because every move has a method to counter it. If a game has a flaw that people can take advantage of, now that would be kinda cheap since it'd be a glitch that the programmers didn't plan for. But if it's a legit move in the game, it might be annoying, but it's fair game. Anyone who shouts, "CHEAP MOVE!! YOU CHEATER!" Well they're just not good enough to figure out how to block or counter.

    14. Yes. Soul Calibur=BIG SHINY WEAPONS. Heihachi=the suck. There were sooo many other great choices. Or at least, there were other, non-suck choices.

    15. smilies/icon_xp.gif Nope, oh wise guru of the arcade stick...but for anyone who's interested in seeing what Tony looks like when he plays fighting games, go to 2:55 of the following video (or watch all of it ^^): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP1auvfchGk
