MONDAY MARCH 09: NHL, MLB, OHL, CFL
National Hockey League The Montreal Canadiens shocked the hockey world by firing Guy Carbonneau on Monday (March 09th, 09). Last year the Canadiens head coach was a finalist for the Jack Adams award and had served on the Montreal bench since 2006. GM Bob Gainy will fill in for the rest of the season. P'g says: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?
The Dallas Stars have signed Brian Sutherby to a two year deal of just over 1.6 million. He was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals (26th overall) and holds a total 34 goals, 43 assists with Washington, Anaheim, and Dallas. P'g says: For a guy drafted in 2000 he hasn't gained many points. Hope he can do something productive.
Vancouver Canucks go for their fifth straight win! P'g says: OWN L.A.!!!
Who will take the eighth place in the Eastern Playoffs? The New York Rangers or the Carolina Hurricanes!? Battle ensues today on TSN2! P'g says: Who cares as long as Pittsburgh is out!
Battle of Ontario: Toronto Maple Leafs take on the Ottawa Senators! P'g says: TML is so close to home, but the Sens = Canadian pride...Who to choose!?
Stars of the Week: #1. Eric Staal (Carolina Hurricanes) #2. Marc-Andre Fleury (Pittsburgh Penguins) #3. Rick Nash (Columbus Blue Jackets) Pg says: I thought Nash was on Nashville...
Ontario Hockey League John Tavares breaks historical OHL record passing Peter Lee (Ottawa67s, 1971-76) in overall goals in the OHL. In his game against the Windsor Spitfires Sunday afternoon Tavares scored his third hat-trick to gain his 213th, 214th and 215th goals, surpassing Lee's 213. Tavares currently has 58 goals and 46 assists and is in his 4th year of the OHL. He leads the league with 104 points and is this weeks' Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week. P'g says: Way to go Tavares!! Here's hoping you go to Ottawa!
Major League Baseball Team Canada is in a must win game against Italy in order to avoid elimination in the World Baseball Classic. P'g says: GO CANADA!
Canadian Football League Calgary Stampeders' coach John Hufnagel is named Coach of the Year at the CFL Congress in Hamilton, Ontario. P'g says: = D He was a pretty good coach...well deserved.
Ottawa is granted a CFL expansion when the Congress met in Hamilton. P'g says: Can't wait to see Ottawa in the league! Too bad other cities like Moncton and Halifax can't have teams.
99th Grey Cup (2011) to be held in Vancouver, Edmonton holds the game in 2010, and this year (2009) Calgary will play host. P'g says: Rumour has it Hamilton may host the centenial games! Personally, I think that's quite befitting the league! Making Hamilton the host of the 100th celebration is like making Montreal the host of the the NHL All-Star Games (which they did).
CFL rule changes!?! The Fans decide!? What will it be!? P'g says: ...like the notice says... (well there's actually an idea of that the rule changes may be, but I'm too lazy to add them).
