Meriko's Musings
Fit and Healthy by 2010! (up 08/08/10)
My desire is to improve my health. With young children to provide for and a few health problems this past year it's been brought home to me that I need to take better care of myself. My goals for this year are to lose 35 pounds and to be able to jog a mile without stopping. Rather than any strictly regimented daily schedule, I just have some basic rules that I will try to follow:
  • keep well hydrated,
  • eat moderately and healthily,
  • exercise for 30-60 minutes three times a week and take in some light exercise on the other days for 15-20 minutes. Do strength training in the morning and hit the treadmill at night, every day.
Wish me luck and/or pray for me! ^^

02/01/09: I have lost nine pounds thus far. (It was actually ten pounds, but as a milestone treat I allowed myself to gorge on Indian food and I gained back a pound. *laugh*) How far I am able to run fluctuates wildly without any noticeable pattern/reasons day to day, but generally I can make it to the half-mile point before needing to walk. Thank you all for your well wishes and encouragement! ^^

02/09/09: I ran a mile without stopping today! Now to get to the point where I can do it consistently. I think one of the keys is just having a really distracting movie to watch while I jog. *laugh*

04/03/09: Woops, forgot to do a March update. ^^; Have lost 16 pounds so far and am able to run a mile without stopping more than half the time. I even ran 1.25 miles twice! *mwee* Hubby says I should re-set my goal to running three miles without stopping. I'll...uh...think about it. o_O;

05/26/09: Ran two miles without stopping! Huzzah! I passed my halfway point in weight loss some time in the last month if memory serves, but have stopped weighing myself as I am now conforming to the belief that mass means more than weight.

08/08/10: Due to a combination of illnesses, workplace insanity and other things, I slacked off mid-2009 and got even more out of shape than I'd ever been. Hubby and I started a new diet and fitness program about 100 days ago, however, and I've since lost 20 pounds and two dress sizes. Yay. heart

An excellent plan indeed! Don't give up even if the numbers aren't going down, it happens, you just have to intensify it when your weight doesn't go down like it used to, that is if it hasn't gone down to the targeted weight. biggrin Good luck!

I've been meaning to do something like that for ages. I've been doing pretty well drinking more water and eating more moderately, though not always healthily (I don't think its good to deprive yourself 100% of the time), but since I don't exercise I havn't lost any weight XP

I'm in your same situation, actually. I think it's important to keep it serious and find help if we can't do it alone. But I'm sure...You can do it!

I'll ask for your weight every month now :annoying-kid: xd

Go for it Meriko! You'd think having little ones would be exercise enough, they way they rush about. Maybe try to find a way to make it a family activity? The only example I could think of right now would be like using Wii sports/fitness in turns. Depends on how old the kids are though. Or taking the family to the park/bike riding? I think these kind of things are most successful when done with people who support you. 3nodding

P.S. I'd love to hear some item trivia if you get the time. biggrin

This sounds like a solid plan! Don't worry, the first two weeks are the hardest. Once you make it all a habit, though, you'll be feeling much better in no time at all!

Go for it! heart

smile people being reasonable about their goals always makes me feel a little excited.

Instead of ridiculous fad diets and killer exercise programs designed to lose weight for shallow and inane aesthetic purposes, people should be working on improving overall health over time.

You can do 3 miles! If you're in the Marines you have to do 5 at one point.

I'm actually trying to lose weight, too.
I weigh 130 pounds and I should be around 120.
In my opinion, of course. I hate looking at my stomach, it's all fat.

(I'm 13 and my height is 5'7" wink

That is great. Good luck on all that exercise. I have recently decided to start jogging daily, seeing as I had gained about ten pounds. I've lost that all and still loosing. ^_^
But that is great, and I hope things are going really well for you.
