And, of course, a Special Comment to Keith Olbermann, a man who is pretty much guaranteed never to see this.
Keith Olbermann, as most of you know and might be too stubborn to admit, is essentially the champion of truth, justice, and the American way. Sadly, he has a love of baseball that can charitably be described as unparalleled and uncharitably described as somewhat creepy. Occasionally, that presents conflicts with his show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, where unfortunately, baseball always wins.
Yes, the mantle of 'champion of truth, justice, and the American way' is a big one to fill, and no one fills it as flawlessly as Olbermann. Regardless, someone has to do it. There was a tolerable thing going with Rachel Maddow as substitute host, but then MSNBC woke up to her undeniable smarts and charm and gave her her own show. And now, we Countdown fans (or KO fans) are stuck with David Shuster, a man who is a big enough p***k to make me wonder if anything else is on in that 7:00 PM CT timeslot.
And, so, I ask of you Keith: David Shuster? Seriously? Your show brings in higher ratings than Hardball with Chris Matthews, your video podcast is #8 on iTunes Most Subscribed list, your audio podcast is #15, and the best you can get is David Shuster?
This is the kind of thing that makes one march into their boss's office and say, "How the hell could you do this?! What the ******** were you thinking?!" And, as such, those are the questions I pose to you. How the hell could you do this, and what the ******** were you thinking?
Please, for the sake of modern American journalism; for us, the fiercely loyal fans of you and your show; don't allow this to continue. Get Richard Wolffe, Howard Fineman, David Gregory; hell, you could just go with Microsoft Anna and it would still be a noteable improvement over Shuster. You could basically throw a paper ball at your writing staff and hit someone who would do better. Just don't let us sit through another Countdown with David Shuster.
