Since there are no classes tomorrow our school held their Rememberance ceremony today. Surpriseing enough the students we're acually well behaved. You may not know but this is a monumental event to happen. Its very hard to have 750 students sit for an hour quietly. We had a guest speaking come in. A captain in the war who had made his sacrifice. He told a story and gave some numbers of people who had died. Most of them the mind couldn't comprehend in a mass amount. Then he referenced it to 2/3rds of the population of the school being wiped out instantly. Sure this made its statement but it was my friend beside me who made a bigger one. (If thats possible sweatdrop ) He began to point to people he didn't know and said, "You're dead." He laughed and pointed to me and said," You and all my friends live." Sure it was innocent enough a comment but it had stuck a nerve for me. All I could do was shake my head and turn to him and whisper, "No it doesn't happen like that. You don't get to choose." After a pause I added, "I die." Who was to say that those people he pointed out didn't deserve to live. Some of them even more then we did. They had families and friends and futures. So did all of us, and all the people who went to fight.
I was walking down a hallway of my school after class and the strangest thing happened. A couple of students and myself were dismissed early from class and sent to our lockers. I had gathered the books I would need for the holiday and headed for the resource room to drop something off. The hallway was deserted except for a nineth grader standing around. The classes hadn't been dismissed so oviously he had gotten in trouble and sent outside. I new the person, we had never spoken but I new his name for he was in some of my options. Well as I was passing him he held out his hands and started inching towards me. I was kinda...well really surprised. I didn't know what else to do so I gave him the hug he desired from me. We hugged, we parted, I walked away. Not a word was spoken and I never knew why he wanted a hug espesially from me a basic stranger......As I said before there's something comforting about strangers.
