CHAPTER 09: FAMILIAR DISTRESS
Jemanie Davidsson and Russ Peters went with Russ’s father, Jack, to go into town to get groceries for the orphanage. During the drive back, they all noticed a girl no older than Jemanie crying by a bus stop. Jemanie looked at the girl with sympathy and said to Jack, “Something wrong happened to her. Stop the car and give her a ride.” Jack offered her a ride and the girl got in the back with Jemanie. “Are you okay?” Jemanie had asked.
“Hopefully, I will be before too long.” The girl replied.
Jemanie looked her in the eyes and saw the same thing he felt when his own father tried to kill him. “My name is Jemanie Davidsson, the guy in the front passenger seat is Russ and his old man Jack is the driver.”
“My name’s Sabrina Thompson. I appreciate the ride.” The girl replied.
Jack asked, “Where you heading?”
“Anywhere but home.”
“Well if it’s someplace not welcoming and full of pain, it’s not much of a home where you’re from.” Jemanie replied to Sabrina’s statement. “What’s wrong? You can tell me, it’s okay.”
Sabrina looked into Jemanie’s eyes just as he did hers. She saw he was speaking the truth. “My father is a violent man. I ran away so I’d no longer have to deal with the beatings.”
Jemanie knew too well what she was going through. Russ was surprised to look back and see a tear run from Jemanie’s eye. Jemanie asked, “Where’s your mother? Do you have any siblings?”
Sabrina explained, “No, my mom died when giving birth to me and I’ve no brothers or sisters.”
Jemanie looked in the back of Jack’s Jeep and grabbed a chain and padlock. “Where’s your dad’s house?”
“It’s on 17th street. Why do you ask?” Sabrina asked.
Jemanie looked her in the eye and said, “I’m gonna get the cops to put him away, but only when I’m done with him. Jack, take us there.” Jack obeyed, and they searched 17th street until Sabrina pointed out the house. “Russ, Jack, wait in the car. Sabrina, I need you to come with me.”
Russ looked over the shoulder of his chair, at Jemanie, and asked, “Bro, what’re you going to do?”
“Just a little game against the guilty.” Jemanie answered as he reached into his pocket and pressed a button on his cell phone. He then grabbed the chain and padlock before getting out of the Jeep, Sabrina followed.
Russ shook his head as he said, “Oh God, why do I get the feeling this is gonna be bad?”
Jemanie walked up to the door. He didn’t knock, he didn’t turn the doorknob, he kicked it open with incredible force. Sabrina’s father was sitting on the couch in the living room and was surprised to see the front door get kicked open by a 11 year old kid who was followed by his own daughter. “What the Hell are you doing here with my b***h of a daughter?!?!” Mr. Thompson asked in rage. While Sabrina’s heart was filled with fear, Jemanie gave her father a evil looking grin. “I asked you a question you son of...”
Jemanie didn’t let him finish and ran at him with speed even greater than what he shown at the arms deal. With a swing of his arm, he threw the chain around Thompson’s neck. The kid then ran behind his target and figure 8 looped the chain around the wrists. Finally, he slipped the padlock through the middle of the figure 8 and locked it. Sabrina watched in amazement as Jemanie explained, “You see, consider this the real punishment for beating a defenseless child. The cops are just gonna throw your a** in a cell and virtually ground you, and deserve worse. Now, you’re gonna apologize to...”
“Screw you, a*****e!” Sabrina’s father interrupted as he was choking.
Jemanie pulled his arms back, causing his target to be strangled. “Let me finish. You are gonna apologize and if you don’t, you’ll be gasping and be in pain much like a fish outta water.”
“You piece of...”
Jemanie again pulled his arms back. “The sooner you apologize, the sooner I call the cops for them to come take you away.”
“O... Okay, I’m... Sorry.” Thompson said while trying to get air to his lungs.
“For what exactly?” Jemanie asked with a smile.
“For beating up and abusing my daughter.”
Jemanie released his grip from the man’s arms and got the cell phone from his pocket. He started pushing a lot of it’s buttons. Sabrina had an idea what he was doing and a smile appeared on her face.
“What are doing now?” The man in chains asked.
“Well, frankly I kinda lied. I’m not calling the cops. I’m sending a text message to a detective I know with an audio recording I made of this little event. He’s probably on duty right now, but I’m sure he’ll get it and send someone to arrest you within the next few hours.” Jemanie sent the message to detective Winchester and walked outside, Sabrina followed again. Unaware of this, he turned his face when he saw her in Jack’s Jeep. “You’re not staying for the police?” He asked.
“Na-huh. I wanna become just like you.” She replied with that same smile on her face. “Thanks.”
CHAPTER 10: ENEMY
“How’s she doing?” Russ had asked regarding Sabrina’s recent discovery of a Galactic Sphere in the ruins.
“She’s still out of it. From the charts it seems a lot like the one Jemanie had grabbed.” Sakura replied.
“Ya know? A thought just occurred to me.” Jemanie said. “Most militaries use nicknames to identify people like in Top Gun where Tom Cruise is Maverick.”
Russ looked at Jemanie with puzzlement. “We’re kids, not soldiers.”
Jemanie looked at his friend with a smile. “On the contrary, we are now Blazers. They are soldiers are they not? We should also pick someone to lead this little band.”
Rick suddenly spoke up. “That should be me. I’m the oldest.”
“That may be, but you aren’t the most in control.” Jemanie replied. “I think Sakura should be our master and commander.”
“Why me, Jemanie?”
“It’s simple, really. You can offer us the most when it comes to training. Plus you have a compassionate heart that’d never send someone to die without reason. That love for people is a beautiful thing much like a flower surrounded by a desolate desert. Huh... A flower...”
Here in the small space that was Russ’s and Jemanie’s room, the 3 others looked at Jemanie in wonder. Rick asked, “What the Hell is significant about that? What about a flower?”
Jemanie explained, “Sakura’s love is pretty and special... She’s Japanese... Where Cherry Blossom’s are often admired...”
Sakura realized what he was getting at and a smile appeared on her face. “He’s saying I’m going to be known as Cherry Blossom because of my compassion for others. I must admit, I’m surprised you knew that about Cherry Blossoms, Jemanie.”
“Yeah well I know a bit ‘bout Japanese culture. Now Russ, your medical chart said your ability is fire... Fire’s passionate... I ain’t calling you Passion, sounds kinda gay.”
Russ laughed at that remark. “That’s cool, I wouldn’t want that.”
“What about Hellfire?” Asked Sakura.
Russ replied, “I don’t want any reference to Hell nor be called a God or anything like that because of my religion. How ‘bout Fire Child? My dad’s a Blazer too and his abilities are also fire.”
“2 down, 2 to go.” Jemanie explained. “Rick’s charts said his elemental powers are an unknown kind of radiation... Radiate, no that sucks. Reactor! No, makes him sound like a cyborg or robot or something... Hmm... Radiation... I got it! NUKE!!!”
Rick looked at him with a sense of cool. “Sounds good, sounds kinda like a drug. Maybe party chicks would get hooked on me.”
Jemanie didn’t like a lot of things sexually related, he recently discovered his father often cheated on his mom with his hookers. “Goddamn Rick!!! You know I don’t like that s**t!”
“Sorry. Just kinda got caught up in the moment.”
Russ looked at his now green eyed friend, Jemanie. “That just leaves you, bro. What shall we call you? Your chart said your elemental abilities are electric related, like Thunder and Lightning. Storm? Cloud? Storm Cloud? Lightning Rod?”
Sakura came up with an idea. “Ever notice he only attacks and makes the guilty feel pain, never the innocent. Thunder is a symbol of power, and his wrath is quite powerful indeed. But he’s also got a nobleness to him, like a knight or king.”
“Or a Lord of feudal Japan.” Jemanie remarked. “Ooh... I like the sound of that, Thunderlord.”
The phone rang, and Russ got up to answer it. Meanwhile, Sakura asked to hear how it was Jemanie and Rick came to the orphanage. Rick decided to go first.
“It wasn’t as tragic as your story my asian friend, my father wasn’t a murdered or anything. No, my parents didn’t like the idea that wanted to screw my girlfriend, we got in a fight, I ran away.”
Jemanie shot a look at Rick with eyes wide open. “That’s gotta be the dumbest reason to run away that I’ve ever heard. Making love is supposed to a beautiful and personal thing between 2 people. Instead, you turned it into this s**t to make a mother and father miss their son, a*****e!”
“Fine Mr. I dress like badass with my biker jacket and dyed black hair. But why are you here?” Rick asked angrily.
“My dad tried to kill me. My mom is a famous archeologist who can handle herself. I was never allowed to go with her. Cops sent me here and changed my name so he won’t find me. The name I will never go by again is David Kessler.” Jemanie explained.
Russ looked over at Jemanie with surprise. “Did you say Kessler? Detective Winchester just called and said a guy named Kessler was released from prison and killing off his rival gangs one at a time. Brutally too. Some of the victims had their tongues and eyes removed. Gross stuff.”
Jemanie’s felt like he was ready to be sick. A criminal he helped put away is out and had turned sadistic. Worse of all, Erich Kessler would go after Jemanie if he knew who he really was. Jemanie asked Russ, “Is there any rival gang that he hasn’t messed with yet?”
“Winchester said there was one, a biker gang calling themselves Riding Falcons.”
“We have to warn them before it’s too late.” Said Sakura.
“I’m going to England. There’s some ruins over there that I think could be alien related.” Rick explained.
Jemanie looked at him with anger and fear in his eyes. “Fine. But I’m going. It’s personal and I’m gonna get bloody on this one.”
CHAPTER 11: GANG WAR
Jack Peters and Hyoto Yoshida agreed to come along to assist in the upcoming battle. They all got out of the Jeep and walked inside a bar south of San Diego. That bar was home of the Riding Falcons.
“Hey! No one under 21 allowed! Can’t you read the sign outside?” The bartender asked.
Jemanie walked up to the tall bearded man and replied, “Oh yeah? Well what if we’re here to save your asses from some really deep s**t?” All the bikers looked at him with their hands in their jackets, ready to pull out their guns and knives. “Surely you’ve heard of Erich Kessler and his gang killing men and women of all different gangs. But have you heard you’re the last of his rivals?”
The bartender signaled everyone to get their fingers off of their weapons. “Us Falcons won’t go down easy! Unlike that cutthroat drug dealing punk, Kessler, we fight together and with honor!”
Jemanie removed his sunglasses, exposing his bright green eyes. “Us Blazers will make sure you don’t go out at all. I know of your gang. You guys aren’t drug dealers, you ain’t murderers, and the only time you guys fight is to protect yourselves, your friends, and loved ones. You just like riding with your pals, there isn’t anything wrong with that in my book.”
Sakura walked up to the bar and said to the bartender, “We need to come up with a plan, I have a feeling they’ll be here soon.”
“Do you have weapons?” The bartender asked.
Jemanie looked at him with a smirk on his face. “We’ve enough guns to make the devil surrender.”
“I think it’d be best for you guys to be on the roof. We have shotguns, machine guns, and some body armor that you can use. There’s going to be a lot of them.” Sakura explained. “Jemanie, I brought you your Thompson and 5 clips for it. Russ is going to use his shotgun, Sensei Yoshida and I will use our swords and shurikens, and Jack’s got a Magnum that’ll put a whole the size of a fist into a car. Do you have any other ideas?”
“Barkeep, I notice there’s 2 gas pumps out there. Think I could use them?” Jemanie asked.
“Sure. I don’t know how those would help, though.” The bartender replied.
Jemanie gave an evil smile and simply replied, “Trust me.”
Only 10 minutes passed before Kessler’s gang arrived, but the Blazers and Bikers were ready. A white limo was speeding towards the bar and a man stood through the sunroof with a M60 Heavy Machine Gun and was shot by the bikers on the roof within seconds. Jemanie took aim with his Thompson and with a single shot, took out the driver of the limo, causing the vehicle to spin out of control and block the road. The occupants of the limo got out and started shooting M4 Carbines, a machine gun used by the Army. Russ unloaded all 8 shells of his shotgun into them. The first wave was done for.
“Got more company! Beginning my little Hellfire plan!” Jemanie shouted as he saw 3 Cadillac Escalades coming. He held his Machine Gun in one arm and a gas pump in the other. When the black SUVs were within 100 feet, Jemanie turned on the pump and started spraying the road with gas. The vapors were rising off the road as Jemanie took cover. The SUVs stopped, everyone was getting out, and Jemanie shot round after round at the roadway until it exploded in flames, killing off the gangsters in their Escalades.
Sakura and Hyoto were watching the desert behind the bar through windows and saw more Escalades coming. The 2 of them walked through the back and stood with the sun overhead. The SUVs stopped and the gangsters got out. Hyoto withdrew his sword and Sakura withdrew both of hers. “Hey Steve, check this s**t! Stupid Nips brought knives to a gunfight!” One of the gang members shouted as he and his allies got out of the car. The gang members took aim with their M60s and fired at the girl and the Ninja Master. Not one bullet hit it’s target, for Hyoto and Sakura swung their blades so fast and with such skill that they sliced through all the projectiles. The Ninja Master and the girl ran towards their enemies and disarmed them by cutting their guns in half, causing the gangsters to surrender. That was the final group to come.
Jemanie ejected his clip and slapped in a new one before walking through the flames he made. There was only a single survivor, but he had a gun, a M4, and was trying to point it at Jemanie. Jemanie retaliated by putting 2 rounds into the survivor’s shoulder. “M4 Carbines and M60 Heavy Machine Guns are US Army weapons, where’d you get them?”
“Go suck yourself!” Replied the survivor.
“Then tell me where Kessler is.”
“I’m not saying s**t!”
Jemanie put his foot on the man’s leg where he had been badly burned and was applying pressure on it. The surviving gang member was screaming in agonizing pain as Jemanie explained, “You got this all wrong. You think you can murder in a grotesque manner and get away with it.”
“I... I can’t tell... He’ll... Kill... Me!”
“Wrong. You tell me, I kill him, you go to jail. It’s sounds like a shitty deal but you get to live and I will have Sakura treat your wounds.” Jemanie corrected the gangster.
Suddenly, something clicked in his head and the gang member gave the information Jemanie wanted. “He’s using a... steel mill as a front... 2453... Industrial. But he’s... just a pawn... Kessler is.”
“What do you mean? C’mon dude! Help me and I’ll help you.”
“Someone... Dressed in a hood to hide his face... Calls himself Firebird... Badass... Military equipment up the a**... Wants to cause the end of the world...”
Firebird? Dressed in a hood? Jemanie thought for a second this guy was crazy. But then he remembered he had alien DNA running through his body and realized stranger things have happened. He grabbed the gang member by the arm and threw him onto his back to carry him to Jack’s Jeep. “Gotta prisoner, have Sakura patch him up. If there’s any others, question them ‘bout someone named Firebird. I get the feeling this s**t’s just beginning.”
Jack looked at Jemanie and asked, “You ain’t staying? Where are you going?”
Jemanie walked to one of the biker’s motorcycles and without even looking back at Jack, he explained, “As I said before, I got something personal to finish.”
Right when he was going to try to hot wire the motorcycle, a biker walked up and tossed Jemanie the keys. “Consider my lady here a token of thanks for helping us out. You take care of her kid!”
“I will. Thanks. It’s a nice bike.” Jemanie turned the keys in the ignition and rode to his destination. He reached behind his back and grabbed his Colt 1911. Taking off the safety and putting the slide back, a single thought in his mind... Kill Kessler and anyone else inside wielding a gun.
CHAPTER 12: PERSONAL FINISH
The mill that was once used to create steel had been turned into a drug lab. Inside the lab was Erich Kessler and 5 of his gang members, and while they were checking the quality of the drugs before they sold them, Jemanie walked up to the front door and kicked it open. 2 of the gang members instantly spotted him and lifted their guns. Jemanie saw them draw their weapons and with his incredible speed, he shot the both of them between the eyes. Jemanie put his pistol in the back of his pants and picked up the corpses machine guns.
“Gunshots! We’ve got trouble! You 3 take care of it!” Kessler barked the order, hoping they’d buy him enough time to escape. But it was already too late for him.
The last 3 ran down the stairs to see Davidsson with an M4 in each hand. He fired the machine guns at full auto into his 3 targets, killing them all. He walked up the stairs with both guns and noticed Kessler running. Jemanie dropped one the machine guns and took aim with the other one. He shot Kessler in the back of the knee, making him stumble to the ground. Kessler grabbed a pistol and pointed it at his attacker, but Jemanie fired first and his rounds found their way into Kessler’s hand, making him drop the weapon. “Your time has come, Kessler.” Jemanie explained.
Erich Kessler, grabbing his hand that was in absolute pain, “Well... At least you’re... Not that wuss your... Mother wanted... You to be. You’re a man... Like me.”
“That’s where you’re wrong, a*****e. I’m not like you. I don’t make the innocent suffer, just the guilty. How many good people have you and your gang killed in your shootouts? How many men, women, and children went to the hospital screaming from bullet wounds ‘cause you thought a drive by shooting would be fun?”
“Huh... I guess... You’re right. I guess you better... Get the cuffs and... Send me in.”
Jemanie held up his machine gun and aimed it at Kessler’s head. “Why would I do that? So you can get out again? No. The fiery prison I’m gonna send you to, there is no escape.”
“Y... You’re my son! You... Wouldn’t kill your own father!”
“Once again, Kessler, you’re wrong. You killed your son all ‘cause you didn’t want a witness to a murder. Your son, wouldn’t hurt a fly, but me, my name is Jemanie Davidsson and I won’t stop until the world is free from assholes like you!” Jemanie fired the machine gun and killed Erich Kessler. He dropped the machine gun and started emptying the corpses’ wallets of their cash. All together, it was almost 3 and half thousand dollars. As Jemanie started to walk out of the drug lab, he pulled out his cell phone and called Detective Winchester. “Detective, it’s Jemanie.”
“Jemanie! What’s going on? I just heard there was shooting at a biker bar south of San Diego and you were there but you took off!” Winchester was still unaware as to what the Blazers planned.
“Kessler wanted to kill off the other gangs of San Diego. As you told Russ, the Riding Falcons was the last one and Kessler made a move against them. With some help from us, the Falcons are still alive, but I made sure Kessler was going down.”
“What?!?!”
“Him and his little drug operations are outta business. I wouldn’t be surprised if his whores and gang fell apart before too long either. Get your guys over here to 2453 Industrial and start cleaning up. If you don’t, it’s gonna be like christmas for all the junkies wanting free drugs. I’ve done enough work for the day, I’m going home.” And with that said, he hung up the phone and jumped on his bike.
EPILOGUE
2 months have passed before a Jemanie saw a news report that gave details about his work, “In today’s news, St. Jude’s Hospital has received a generous yet anonymous donation of 3,507 dollars for research into a cure for cancer. Dr. Simpson says that the funds will also go to the development of cures to other deadly diseases such as AIDS.” Jemanie smiled as he knew what once came from a business that killed people, the funds have switched hands and are now being used help save many.
Sakura walked up to Jemanie with something on her mind. “You know, you came up with an idea a couple months ago that we’re basically like a military squad and we all got nicknames.”
Jemanie just look at her with confusion, unsure where this was going. “Yeah.”
“I thought it’d only be fair that you pick the name of our squad seeing how it was your idea.”
Jemanie thought for a second. “It’s the new millennium, we’re all teens, well except for Russ, he’s only 12. Hmm... We’re the Next Generation of Blazer Forces, how ‘bout that?”
“That’s good, and we can call ourselves NextGen for short.”
“Hey! Don’t even think ‘bout trying to out due my creativeness, Sakura!” Jemanie said with a laugh. Sakura laughed with him.
Sakura had one more thing to say, “There’s also another thing I wanted to talk to you about. Sabrina’s doing well in her training as are all of us, but we’ve all had that first mission to bring us into The Blazer Forces. Even you provided evidence that Blazers aren’t terrorists.”
“I have the feeling you already have something in mind.” Jemanie said.
“Actually, yes. There’s been a series of murders on some islands off the coast of England and was thinking... Well... Do you think she’s capable of solving them?”
Jemanie thought hard for a minute. “She’s a smart girl, and she’s a lot like me. Hell! Even our birthdays are the same! Kinda scary, it’s like looking in the mirror sometimes and seeing what it’d be like if I was a chick.”
“So would that be a yes?”
“I don’t see why she couldn’t handle it. Sounds like a good idea for trial run.”
“Good, then I shall take her there right away. The navy gave us a Aircraft Carrier and I’ve been getting pretty good at flying a helicopter. I’ll let you get back to watching TV now.”
Jemanie’s eyes went back to the television. “Boomshocka. See ya!”
Sakura was about to ask what boomshocka was, but she knew Jemanie well enough to know he probably just came up with it. “Be seeing you!” She said right as she left.
A few hours pass, Sakura and Sabrina already gone, and Jemanie started to think about the mission. A series of murders off the coast of England. It didn’t seem like anything a new Blazer couldn’t handle, but then he thought about a name he didn’t think much about since that day he killed Erich Kessler. The name he was thinking of was Firebird. And for some reason, Jemanie felt like this had his name all over it.
