Codominance/Incomplete dominance confusion
Now, I can understand this confusion. It is hard. (It still annoys me though - another personal peeve, but still.)
However, I have a quick and dirty tip: Codominance is Co-operating, Incomplete dominance is compromising.
I'm going to nick Nematri's elves eye colours, for an example on incomplete dominance. I hope she doesn't mind.
So if a Nemalf's eye colour showed an incomplete dominance pattern:
A homozygous dominant individual (RR) would have red eyes. A homozygous recessive individual (rr) would have blue eyes.
BUT
A heterozygous individual (Rr) would have purple eyes.
So the hetrozygote (Rr person) shows an intermediary, blended appearance.
Onto codomiance:
Perhaps the best example of this is seen in human blood types.
A, B, O or AB.
Let's say Joe has AB blood. If we p***k Joe's finger and then fill a vial with his blood, we don't get half a vial of A blood and half a vial of B blood. We get a vial of AB blood because both alleles are expressed fully. ALL of his blood shows the characteristics of BOTH blood types.
Not: Some of his blood shows characteristic A and the rest shows characteristic B.
