Is worrying about someone else's safety really as selfless as it seems?
When worrying about a loved one is it really that you care for their safety or more that you don't want to lose them because you don't want to feel the pain and sorrow that comes with losing a loved one? That is not to say theat when we really worry for other's safety that we do not care about them, I believe the emotion is genuine however it is not as chivilrous a thing as people make it out to be.
A little off topic but still fueling this introspective, angst ridden, and pessimistic train wreck that I submit for your viewing pleasure: I have come to believe that humans are selfish by nature. When a child is first learning to talk and interact with the world around him/her, they think that every item that remotely interests them is thier personal thing and would rather scream and cry before letting someone else see it or hold it. There are certain instances that we worry about people we don't even know but perhaps that feeling of worry that knots up the stomach and robs people of sleep isn't as strong as the one felt for a loved one.
