Emo Pumpkin
There once was a girl-of about high school age. The sad truth is she had no friends. “Why?” you might ask, well, quite simply she was different from the other kids. Her dad died when she was just a child—scaring and depressing her. This coupled with her quiet nature gave her the label of “emo” at school. Even people with the same label left her alone. This trend would continue all throughout school.
One day a year she would wake up truly happy-Halloween, her favorite holiday. The joy of this day, thought, was always short lived. School, and the kids in it, could ruin even the best day. The day dragged on like any other. Perhaps even worse for today the bus was full today, no one even cared enough to move over. So, she had to walk home in the rain. It was a long walk home with plenty of time to think-she began to cry, realizing how much she was hated and over nothing.
When she got home she found a pumpkin on the table-not yet carved. She decided she wouldn’t be alone this Halloween. She roughly carved up a friend from the pumpkin using one of the knives her dad had left her. After naming the pumpkin she now had the one friend she so longed for. Promising to always be friends she carved their names on the back of the pumpkin. For the next few days she was unusually happy. No one knew why.
The pumpkin began to wither and wilt. She promised the pumpkin, her one real friend that as soon as she could she would carve him out again. Soon she went back to the way she was. Then, came the following Halloween, again she was happy. As promised every year she made her friend, and she was never happier than during the short time she got to spend with her one and only friend.
