Appearance
Na'veen is not one to stand out in a crowd. She is of average height and build for a female drow, and bears her race's distinctive white hair and ebony black skin. Her straight white hair falls to her lower back, and bangs hang unevenly above her eyes. Na'veen's eyes are usually red, but unlike most of her kind, they are a dark blue in color when infravision (heat vision) isn't in use. This is a rare occurrence, usually observed only when she is reading books by candlelight. Na'veen has one piercing in each earlobe, and is almost always wearing a pair of dangling earrings with blue stones on the end.
Na'veen usually wears her cleric robes, which are of a plain and austere cut, high-necked, and black with red trim about the sleeves, neck, and hem. Her soft leather boots complete the outfit, and are spelled for silence. When not dressed in full cleric regalia, Na'veen can be found in a variety of robes, most of which are of a fancier design than her standard uniform. She will wear fancy dresses on rare occasion, and absolutely refuses to wear pants, considering them to be males' clothing articles and therefore an inferior mode of dress. Na'veen bears a concealed dagger, which is generally used for spellcasting and ritualistic purposes. Although she might be able to use it to fend off physical attacks, she is not much of a warrior. In lieu of an actual weapon, the young necromancer prefers to wield her alicorn wand in battle. The wand consists of a unicorn's horn affixed to a tooled metal handle, and as there are few sins greater than that of maliciously slaying a unicorn, it has a high affinity for enhancing dark magic.
History
As a brief background, drow live underground in cavernous cities, shunning those who live above ground. There are many such communities scattered through the dark vastness of the Underground, and the Undercity is a typical example of drow civilization. Dwellings are built into the massive stalactites and stalagmites of a massive underground cavern. Ranking is organized by House, with several of the most powerful noble Houses holding the reins of power. Other, lesser-ranked Houses vie for favor, and feuding is common. On occasion, one House will rise up and attack a higher-ranked rival. If successful, the lesser-ranked House moves up in power and influence. In this way, Houses constantly vie for power, while simultaneously having to guard their backs from jealous rivals. A House generally consists of a ruling Matron (drow society is matriarchal and treats males as second-class citizens), several female clerics (generally the children and relatives of the Matron), a host of wizards, as well as a sizable armed force.
Na'veen is the second-eldest daughter in the Del'bren'shazoren family, one of the Undercity's minor noble Houses. Thanks to her mother's supervision, Na'veen was filled with religious zeal as a child, and grew to become a distinguished cleric of the Spider Queen, chief deity of the drow. However, shortly after the young drow became a full priestess, a goddess of Death became interested in spreading her influence through drow society, and picked Na'veen to be one of the first of her Undercity followers. Frustrated by the scant influence that her House wielded, and hungry for power, the young cleric eagerly accepted the offer. Now, although she is ostensibly still a cleric, at least in the eyes of the public, Na'veen practices as a necromancer. Even the evil drow hate and fear necromancers, but her House reluctantly accepts her presence because she is one of the most powerful spellcasters available to them, and has helped to ensure the survival of the House on more than one occasion. Na'veen secretly plots to wrest control of the House from her mother, and then move on to conquering the Undercity, and eventually the world. One has to wonder how she's going to manage that, when she has to balance her ambition with keeping her true vocation a secret from the general populace in order to prevent them from destroying her.
Personality
Na'veen is very conniving and manipulative. She can act quite sweet and obliging when she is trying to win someone over, but turns completely ruthless when it comes to taking out those that stand between her and her goals. The Death Goddess's hold on her mind is slowly driving her over the edge of sanity, so she can often be found talking to herself and making grandiose plans to conquer the world. Na'veen adores violence, torture, and death, as well as exercising her power over those who bow to her will. She has a morbid fascination for bones of any sort, and maintains an extensive private collection.
