My story
I began writing this i hope everyone likes it
Chapter 1: The Changing Tides
Some people are lucky enough to have families in the british government. Some are just merchants who sail the seas. With every government there is a low class and in this government it's us pirates.
Everyone has their own story and not all of them end happily. My story is a simple one, I started out with a poor mother and my father was a sailing merchant. I never saw him much, but he always would send us some gold. My mother was sick of London so she volunteered to go to a place in the new world.
It was really early when my mother woke me from my sleep. We got our things and boarded the ship, I noticed a lot of families getting on. When I looked at the ship I couldn't believe how majestic it was. I could completely understand why my father sailed. I didn't know it then, but my future was determined.
I felt the cold chain of a piece of gold my father gave me. I moved to the bow of the ship away from the noise and I saw it for the first time. It was a pirate ship heading towards us, behind me they they raised the alarm. People were screaming and panicking. I watched as the ship came closer, their guns were out and I saw the pirates with their greedy faces.
A shot was heard and I felt the ship jerk, we were hit. My mother was screaming my name as the pirates boarded the ship. they searched our possessions and one grabbed me from behind. He saw the chain on my neck and grabbed it. He looked at the coin and let me go. He dragged me to the side of the ship and grabbed a rope. The pirate wrapped his arm around my waist and held me close as he swung to the pirate ship.
I was thrown in a cell, by then I was afraid. Somehow I knew, I would never see my mother again. I didn't show my fear when the captain came down, I was in my teenage years so it wasn't hard. The captain looked at me, his cold stare pierced my heart and sent chills down my body.
"You look familiar..." His voice was as cold as his stare and it sounded very deadly. "But I don't think we've met before..." He looked me up and down. I said nothing as another man appeared.
"The ship has sunk and there was nothing of value..." He looked at me and couldn't believe his eyes "Kitara? You and your mother were aboard that ship?"
I looked at him, anger flowed through my veins. He lied to me and my mother, he was my father. "A merchant huh? I can't believe this." He saw the anger in my face and he looked down. The captain looked between us and smiled.
"Well now, thats why your familiar. You two are related?" He looked to my father and he nodded.
"She is my daughter" He noticed the chain around my neck and turned to the captain "what are you going to do to her?" He asked a little worried.
The captain looked back at me "I'm not sure yet, she looks a little weak to work and she has a long life ahead of her." He had a grin on his face. "Well the only thing we can do is lock her up and go from there." The next thing I knew, I was thrown in a cell and a man was watching over me.
I sat there with my legs pulled up to my chest. I wondered what my fate would become. I held onto the gold coin around my neck as though it was going to help me. Every now and then someone else would come down to watch my cell. I hoped my father would be down but he never came. I looked around me, the ship was a dark color and the prison was made from iron. They had barrels of something stored down here. I put my head in my knees and fell asleep, I don't know how long I slept before I heard yelling from above. It sounded like my fathers voice it seemed as though he was yelling 'no'. The guard was curious and ran upstairs, then I heard laughter, my fathers voice was gone and something dripped on my hand. It was warm and sticky, it was also red. The guard returned and opened my cell, my stomach clenched nervously. He pulled me up and dragged me upstairs. I looked down when we got to the deck, I saw my fathers dead body laying there. No tears came to my eyes, I couldn't cry over a man that lied to me.
The captain looked to me, it seemed that he was trying to read my emotions. I stood there looking at him, my face completely emotionless. He stifled a smile as he had someone throw my fathers body into the ocean. The captian walked towards me, dagger in hand. The dagger was covered in blood, my fathers blood, i'm guessing. He stopped right in front of me.
"It's a shame huh? Your father was a great worker and now, someone must take his place" he looked down at me. "Join my crew or die like your father."
I looked up at the captain, his cold stare caught mine. "What a tough choise" I pretended to think it through before giving my answer. "I will join your crew, and I will prove useful to you."
The captain smiled "Perfect, welcome aboard." He handed me a sword and I took it. I tied the sword around my waist and it rested on my right hip. The captain looked at me strange. "You fight with your left hand?"
"I learned a different weapon on my right hand" I drew my sword then put it back away.
"Now what weapon did you learn on your right hand?"
I looked around at the pirates. "A whip" the pirates looked amazed, I looked back at the captain and he looked me up and down again.
"How old are you anyways?" I looked at him and smirked. I don't know why but I was amused by this question.
"I'm seventeen years old, why?"
The captain looked amazed by my answer "you don't look it at all. You look younger."
I sighed "Yes I get that a lot, now onto the work question." I wondered where I would be assigned.
"Ah, yes..." the captain looked at the pirates "Back to work!" They all scrambled and returned to their stations. The captain put his arm around my shoulders. He led me to the bow of the ship away from the rest of the crew "Your father was my first mate. It seems that your to inherit his position."
I looked back at him, one thing made me curious. "Why did you kill him?"
"I mentioned to him that I may kill you and he was going to try to save you." He paused for a moment, then he continued "He was trying to get the crew to mutiany against me to save you. Of course I was not going to kill you." He noticed the chain around my neck. "Whats that?" He grabbed the chain and looked at the coin. "Where did you get this?"
He still held the chain and I looked at it "My father gave it to me for my fourteenth birthday." I looked back up to him, he seemed angry. "Why? Is there something special about it?"
"Yes, he must have sent this to you for a reason. May I take it?" I nodded as he took it from around my neck. He took the chain and put something on it. He put the chain back around my neck "There, this proves that you are a part of my crew."
I looked at it, it was a skull and crossbones with a name carved into one of the crossbones. The name was Dalamar, I guessed it was his last name. I put the chain back under my shirt "Thank you."
He put the coin back in his pocket "No my dear, thank you" He turned around and watched his crew members working. "Now, we have some items to sell. Were heading for port in an interesting town. I'm not sure if I should have you stay on the ship or not."
"No, I will see this port. If I am to be part of this crew, I wish to see vast sights."
Dalamar smiled "Aye, spoken like a true pirate. Onto Tigerfang Port!" he yelled that to the whole crew. "Now my dear, follow me." He walked to the stern of the ship and I followed. "Here, you make sure we head southwest." He handed me a compass and I steared in the direction I was told to.
I don't know where he went but I knew that something strange was going on. The way he reacted to the coin was strange, like it had some hidden power. Also the charm he gave me, I don't think everyone has one, just me. Maybe it could be because i'm his first mate, I don't know. We were sailing for about an hour before I saw land. Dalamar came up and took the wheel. We docked the ship and walked on the dock. The town was indeed interesting.
