Journal?

Aren't journals diaries you keep during journeys so that only centuries after you're 6 feet under is it then excavated and presented for public viewing......in a museum?

Today I shook a tree and it rained down demon hell-spawn and ancestral wraiths of wrath to scorn my soul for disturbing nature so that I might profit from measly spare change.
