SHADOW RUN

General Information
The Shadow Run is both the simplest and most dangerous training course that can be run without a golem. A flurry of continuous attacks is what the Sun Division holds in highest respect, and the course reflects that. The course itself is a simple tunnel, reached via portal. Within the tunnel await hundreds of weak, hungry shadowlings. Nothing to worry about on their own, but capable of overwhelming a Hunter through sheer numbers at the first moment of weakness. At the other end of the tunnel is another portal, leading back to the course observation booth.

If you fail: your character is KO'd, but there's always a senior hunter in the observation booth with enhanced bandages at the ready. They should reach you in time. Really. Trained and trusty professionals on-hand 24/7.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights to those who take out the greatest number of shadowlings and go the most turns without needing to attempt a recovery maneuver.

Mechanics

• You must get through 5 waves of attacks to make it through the tunnel.
  
• Simply roll for attack as you would in battle.
  
• If you miss, your character falters in their attacking and is overwhelmed by shadowlings.
  
• After 3 successful hits, you may use your weapon's charge attack.
  
  Bonus Mechanics
  
• This bonus is consumable.
  
• The bonus in this course is in the form of "recoveries" ~ these are would-be missed attacks that are quickly recovered and turned into a successful hit. Basically, they can miss once and roll again for an extra try. If you keep consecutively missing, though, and run out of recoveries, it's lights out. These do not equal an automatic pass for a round, you still have to land a successful hit to proceed.

Vash had some idea, of course, of just what this entailed: a training course that would push him to actually make good use of his weapon, to learn how to fire off quick and accurate shots, instead of relying on a quick swing of the first to make up for his lack of aim. It sounded like a good plan, but as he approached the portal, maybe there was something just a smidge wary in his expression. Nothing in this place ever went as they promised. There was always a catch.

Today, apparently, his catch came in the face of a familiar pink-haired pain in the a**, approaching the same task at the same time. As he saw Dottie, Vash's steps faltered for a minute, like he was thinking about turning and finding something else to do. And then, instead, they turned determined, legs stretched out for the sole purpose of getting there before here.

Dottie was actually having a pretty boring, lazy day for the most part. She had somehow managed to find herself free of duties for the afternoon, and while at first that had seemed incredibly fantastic, she had quickly realized that it wasn't actually so great, especially when all of her usual companions were busy.

It was either find something to do, train, or loll around feeling like a useless piece of s**t.

She opted to find something to do.

What she'd heard about the Sun divisions training course, it had totally piqued her interest. Now, it seemed like the absolute perfect way to make her afternoon less full of suck.

Wait. Was that taller-than-her, lanky a**, jerkwad Vasily determinedly strolling right on past her?

Her steely gaze rose to watch him, lips pursing, her bandanna hanging loosely around her neck instead of pulled up around her face.

"Hey." She said, her own pace quickening to catch up. "You lost? Because I'm pretty sure this course isn't meant for losers."

"And yet you're here." Even as he said it, Vash stretched his legs out even more. Not quite running -- running would be too obvious -- but his goal was clear. Make her trot just a little to keep up, like someone's nuisance kid sister.

It would have been cool if he hadn't even looked at her, but he couldn't help a flicking look in her direction, just to see how she was reacting. Immediately, he fake-recoiled, wrinkling his nose. "Your face is out. Spare us, Dorothy, cover up."

Oh she saw what he was doing. Speeding up so that she would be hard pressed to keep up with her shorter legs. Though she was already practically speed walking, he was still outpacing her, and she could do nothing but roll her eyes, refusing to jog just to catch up to him.

Frustrating though it was, and her cheeks had reddened slightly to match the irritation she felt, she just continued to trail behind him, and snapped back, in a mocking tone.

"I'm pretty sure if nobodies been vomiting or passing out at the sight of your ugly as ******** mug so far, Vasily, I'll be just fine."

It was a lame comeback, but no more so than his earlier one.

He tipped his head to look back over his shoulder, as if to judge just how far behind him she'd fallen -- and instead of replying to the insult on his face (even if, inwardly, he raged, because his face was excellent) he focused on that instead.

"Why are you following me around like a little lost puppy? Don't you have anything else to be doing?"

The portal was rapidly approaching, and the task beyond. He fought the urge to burst into a trot, just to make sure he got through ahead of her.

"If anybody here is a dog, it's you, a*****e." She glared back at him, and continued to walk behind, though it was more than a little tempting to turn and stalk away, since he was insisting on making this into some stupid little game.

"Actually, yes, I do have something to do. Something much better than staring at your pathetic a**." She glanced down, and made a show of squinting, tilting her head to the side. "Well..whatever a** you have to stare at." She said, and looked up again, feeling more than a little relieved when she saw the portal appearing ahead.

"Got some training to do. Shadowlings to demolish. You know, Sun things."

As in, much cooler than Death.

"That's where I'm going." Even as he said it, Vash stretched his legs out a bit more -- shooting her a sideways look and working to make absolutely sure he beat her there, at this point. Because --

"And I was here first." Maybe he sped up even more for the last few steps, to beat her through the portal.

"Well then, I guess we'll both be going in at the same ******** time than, asshat!" She called out to him as he sped away, obviously intent on beating her through the portal, and likely hoping it would close behind him or something stupid like that.

....Well, actually, she wasn't sure herself if it would, so she finally jogged to catch up. Actually, she sprinted, and attempted to slide in just ahead of him, giving him a hefty shove when she came up beside him, whether it be while passing him or once she had caught up to him inside.

"You're so ******** pathetic, by the way, in case nobodies told you that yet today."

The result was a collision in the doorway, and a tumble out into the other side -- into a long, dark hallway, glinting with eyes that stared back at them with a malicious intent. The danger was enough to keep Vash from retaliating, for now, at least. Instead he stumbled out of her grasp, immediately reaching for his weapon to fire at the Shadowlings that came toward them.

With Dottie next to him, he shot better. Vash already knew that. Not that he'd admit it.

Okay so maybe not her best plan, trying to beat Vash into the portal. Perhaps if she'd executed her move more quickly, she wouldn't have ended up in a tangle of limbs with who she considered to be one of the most obnoxious people she'd ever met, and definitely would have been better prepared for what they were met with on the other side.

"Get offa me." She growled, even though it was entirely her fault that they were in this predicament. Of course, Vasily had already gotten away from her as quickly as he could, and likely hadn't needed any encouragement to do so. Scrambling to her feet, she was just plain lucky that she had her sword at the ready and swinging when the first shadowling jumped at her, just barely catching it with the edge of her blade before it could reach her.
