Sinter advances down the hallway.

HP: 10/20
Military Weapon: +1 DMG
YTMA Pins:
Journeytroll in Covert-Ops (2 advances until cool-down.)
Master in Leadership
Trinkets:
1/1 Agility Style B: Attack twice with 4d6. Add +1 to both accuracy rolls.
1/1 Support Style B: Roll 1d4, on a 1, 2, or 3, ally regains a quarter their max hp. On a 4, ally recovers entirely.
1/1 Industrial Strength Band-Aid: Roll 1d4, on a 1, 2, or 3, ally regains a quarter their max hp. On a 4, ally recovers entirely. For use in this dungeon only.

The zombies Sinter had warned of turned out to be barely a speed-bump en route to the control room. Sinter felt a little silly for bothering to report back before dispatching them himself. He hadn't done much in the way of combat this mission. He supposed it wasn't unexpected given his company. That didn't mean he didn't feel self-conscious about his combat expertise. Sinter patted the gerbil in his pocket consolingly.

"The door is this way," he announced. He could at least do this.

"What is this?" Tamiya inquired. She palmed the device, gave it a sniff and raised her eyebrows. If one of her religious confidantes gave it to her, she would assume it was an important mirthful artifact. If Sinter gave it to her, it was probably some kind of helpful communication device. From Elidae, perhaps it would be a massaging or musical device.

From Kursha... "Your murder offering is appreciated."

The group's efforts produced a door. Excellent. Tamiya could smell the victory with her highly astute sniffnode.

"Should I use the killing device on this door? Sinter, use your magical and amazing thinkpan to deduce the answer."

Sinter automatically disarms the trap.

Sinter had been examining the door for traps. Unsurprisingly, the door was rigged to do something or other. They'd never find out if Sinter had anything to say about it. He was in the midst of sorting out the wires behind the door when he looked back to Tamiya. "The ki... Tamiya where did you get that!?"

Tamiya was holding a bomb--the perfect picture of an anthropomorphic cartoon animal. Sinter nearly cut the wrong wire in his attempt to wave Tamiya off. "Tamiya, don't- You didn't touch anything on that, right? Just hold still." Sinter turned back to his work. He sliced two wires and returned to Tamiya's side. "Let me see that," Sinter demanded, taking Tamiya's hand and looking at the explosive as she held it. It wasn't active, but it was live, and much newer than anything found on this ship. Sinter's breathing returned to normal. He released Tamiya's hand and looked over his shoulder at Kursha.

"...The door is disarmed, but the manual deadbolt is still in place. Maybe you can take care of that," Sinter said with a flat expression and even less intonation.

When Sinter looked back at Kursha, the greenblood's expression was a picture of pure glee. The twitching of his mouth was the only indication of any attempted restraint. He nodded silently to the redblood, not trusting himself to speak, before raising his rifle. As per usual, he fired a round at the bolt. It was a half-hearted shot at best.

“Too bad. Guess it's stuck,” he said with unashamed insincerity. He gave his shoulders an exaggerated shrug. “Unless anyone else has an idea...” His eyes slid back over to Tamiya.

"YES." Tamiya responded, eyes trained on the explosive she held in her hand like an exotic fruit. "I HAVE AN IDEA."

She was a particular kind of genius. Even with no previous knowledge of how to handle this specific device, Tamiya's intuition simply took over.

The solution? "Back up!" She reared back and tossed the explosive at the door. With a meaty explosion, the door splintered and creaked open off of its hinge. Smoke filled the hall, hot sparks and metal shrapnel spinning out on the ground before falling silent with a grey ashen huff. Tamiya looked somewhat charred, but otherwise pleased. Her makeup had darkened to an eerie charcoal grey that was darker than her natural skintone, sharp flat teeth standing out in the sterile ship's light.

"Success."

This is a mini-boss battle, the full rules and mechanics of which can be reviewed here.

The room beyond the door seems empty from the hallway, but stepping inside you are swiftly aware that you are not alone! For lurking in the corner is a dark groaning shape. As it turns towards you, you realize you are entering strife!

You have encountered a ...

3. ... Rotting... (+1 to all attacks)

4. ... Skeletal... (-1 on all accuracy rolls)

Dice 2

2. ... Oozing... (-1 to weapon attacks that deal less than 6 damage)

3. ... Disemboweled... (-5 miniboss HP)

4. ... Swift... (players take 2x the amount of damage on their first turn)

Dice 3

1. ... Daywalker Captain!

2. ... Zombie Gerbil Pack!

3. ... Mutated Daywalker!

4. ... Undead Slime Lusus!

MINIBOSS STARTING HP: 20/20

If you rolled a 1, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 2, take 4 dmg.

If you rolled a 3, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 4, take 3 dmg.

If you rolled a 5, take 2 dmg.

If you rolled a 6, take 2 dmg. Your attack this turn does double damage.

If all party members reach 0hp, look below:

You must make a tactical retreat! Scrambling back out of the room,

you barely make it to the pod with all your limbs attached.

Better luck next time! You have retreated from your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

If the mini-boss reaches 0hp, look below:

If this is your first mini-boss fight look below:

If a member of your team is a trained Discipline or Endurace specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can close your eyes and draw on inner reserves to keep going. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Restore 1d10+3 OR 1/3rd (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Restore 1d8+2 OR 1/4th (rounded down) of your hp.

If you are training your skill: Restore 1d6+1 hp.

You cannot roll the dice then choose the flat restoration, one must be picked beforehand.

If a member of your team is a trained Troll Relations or Leadership specialist OR registered as in-training for either:

You can manage to cheer, rally, or cajole your teammates into finding more energy. This can only be done once per ship exploration per troll trained.

If you are a Journeytroll or higher in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+3 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are a Novice in your skill: Each team member restores 1d6+2 (rolled separately) hp.

If you are training your skill: Each team member restores 1d4+1 (rolled separately) hp.

If this is your second mini-boss fight, you have reached the control room! Roll 1d4 and look in the spoiler below:

1 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the ship away.*

2 - Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. As the screens boot up however, dozens of red warnings and errors flash across the screen. It seems like there has been critical damage to the ship in multiple places. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

3- The ship refuses to power on, even after you follow headquarters instructions to make sure they are plugged in, and hitting ctrl-alt-del. It looks like something core is not functioning. Your team is instructed to leave the small black boxes containing deadly explosives in key positions on your return path to the exit.

4- Powering on the ship is easy enough, with the instructions from headquarters in your ear. The screens show that the ship is functioning perfectly, and headquarters patches in the control of a remote helmsman. They wait until you have returned to your boarding pod and leave, before steering the boarding vessel away.*

If any troll in the party has helmsman authority, they can steer the ship to given coordinates, then return to the boarding vessel with the rest of the team.

Congratulations! You have completed your mission and returned back to the docking area! Squad commanders, be sure to report in!

Elidae Bonbon
hp: 9
attack: 1d6 (+1 bedazzled superstar military weapon✧・゚*✧・)
ytma: training in agility (cooldown: n/a)
trinkets: has some, don't remember what they are!

There were more of those undead gerbil skeletons littering about and Elidae genuinely felt so sick of them by now, it didn't bother as much. "Nooo!"! Elidae cried, shaking her legs as the skeletal gerbils crawled up her spacesuit. They were a little heavier than the last batch. "Back for a vengeance?!" The yellowblood used her large shears once again reluctantly tear into them, casting tiny bones across the floor.

Sinter attacks the skeletal, armored, zombie gerbil pack!

YTMA Pins:

Trinkets:

1/1 Industrial Strength Band-Aid: Roll 1d4, on a 1, 2, or 3, ally regains a quarter their max hp. On a 4, ally recovers entirely. For use in this dungeon only.

At least Kursha was honest. In a sense. Sinter's deadpan only lasted as long as it took Kursha to say "unless." "Tamiya..!" Sinter was already backing up. The bomb, and subsequently the door, exploded. The threshold was cleared and smoking slightly.

Sinter coughed at the acrid smell. He was almost put-off that such a reckless maneuver would be so stupidly effective. "I guess we'll head... in..."

Dozens of tiny eyes glittered in the dark of the room.

"Oh goddammit."

Sinter unsheathed his sword and set to work clearing the room of yet more undead gerbils. At least these had the decency to not be fleshy.

Sinter does 3 damage!

"More skeletons!" Tamiya announced. She shook off some stray ash and lunged immediately into the fray. This was a significantly less stressful ship than their previous excursion. As the creatures lept at her legs and began to tear at her suit.

"Easy enough." She dispatched a handful of the creatures, piling up their bones as she did.

Tamiya charged up another blast of chucklevoodoos. Whatever psyche the gerbils had, causing it to rupture might disassemble them entirely. Otherwise, the boost in her own abilities and confidence might be the key to their demise.

“Yahoo! Go Tam!” Kursha applauded from a safe distance as the purbleblood chucked the explosive at the door. He could not be more delighted. “You really know how to shake things up! Sinter was surprised by Kursha's sudden proximity, but not so surprised for him to do anything about it. The greenblood dragged him and Elidae through the room and the gerbil remains. The control room was just on the other side. Just in time. Sinter was beginning to become desensitized to the crunching of gerbil bones underfoot. Sinter sighed in relief and released himself from Kursha's arm.

He never considered himself a technologically-inclined troll. However, when Sinter thought back, he did have quite a bit more experience with military equipment than the average troll. The consoles littering the control room were only intimidating at a glance. They were surprisingly straight-forward upon closer examination. There was no use in a ship no one could fly, Sinter supposed.

Unfortunately the system wasn't so simple as to turn on when the "on" button was pressed. None of the buttons were responsive, actually. Sinter grimaced. "We've got another dud. Prepare the explosives... More, explosives, that is." Sinter shot a look at Kursha and Tamiya.
