There was a resigned shirt off acceptance that came with waking up on the beach. Zeke wasn't sure what had happened this time to lead up to it, but this, at least, had become familiar. He didn't even bother moving at first, not even to lift his face from the sand, and instead lay there for a long while listening to his own breathing and the waves as they filed against the shore.

When he did move, rolling over to blink up at the sky, he started to notice a few disconnects with himself, and the world how he remembered it. For one, he was wearing layers. Something he'd given up a long time ago as his clothing had started to fall apart. For another, his hair want tickling at his temple, and a brush with his hand showed only a minimal amount of stubble on his face.

{ are you going to lay there all day, boil?}

He sat up so suddenly the world tired a little.

Laggy?

{Yeah boil. I'm here.}

Where did you-?

Something a little ways down the coast had him cutting off mid thought and scrambling to his feet. Racing across wet sand until he dropped to his knees beside a water logged blonde in numerous layers. "Ever?" He was already reaching for him, turning the other man over and dragging him up as much into lap as he could. They were both soaked to the bone and covered in sand.

Ever was more than just soaked through; he'd already hacked up enough water to leave him shuddering, strung out and a bit bleary, already out of focus enough right now that he hadn't put two and two together. His coat was sopping, stuck against his body and the hood tangled. His jeans were torn near one ankle, a deep rent that didn't seem to have gone deeper -- maybe it had been there before the battle.

Both of his boots were still there, for which he was grateful.

For a moment, he frowned up at Zeke, coughing again and trying to scrabble up at least into a sitting position, hair wild and loose around his face.

"The hell?"

Strong hands helped Ever sit up, and lingered on the other man's back and shoulder, not just to steady him, but because the last thing Zeke remembered was spending five months without the Lifer. Without anybody, at the end. It wasn't the longest they'd been apart, but it certainly wasn't the same as Ever being in another country, on another base, and only a text away to confirm he was still there.

He was shaky, understandably. A combination of wet clothing, a cool breeze, and what he thought was probably the beginnings of shock.

"Can you hear Amory?" After everything, it might have been an odd question, but there was a point to it. He knew this beach, he'd been here many times in the past year and a half.

Ever spat into the sand again, dragging a hand across his face and trying to make sense of the question. He could still feel the water in his mouth, in his nose, and he shuddered just a little. It didn't matter how much work Zeke put into things -- he was never going to like that.

But he wasn't exactly panicking, either.

"He's there. Quiet, but there." Probably deliberately biting his tongue just to give Ever a hard time, but his presence was there even in silence. Slowly, he rolled one shoulder and settled back.

"I need a drink."

Their weapons being back was a good thing, though it didn't exactly any many questions. Like how did they get here, and why weren't their clothing in tatters, or their hair over grown, or their bodies a bit leaner. None of this was making much sense.

"Do you mean water, or something stronger?" He asked as the tension started to flow out of his shoulders. Ever was alright, Lagertha was back, and they were on Deus. They could figure out the rest. "Because I could go for both, honestly." He frowned, suddenly thoughtful. "I'm pretty sure there was some gin in my desk, last I checked."

And that came with a whole mess of questions and concerns that he had no answers to. What he really wanted in that moment was to find someone that could tell fill them in on what might have been happening while they were gone, and how long it had actually been. His memories said one thing, the state of their clothing said quite another.

"Gin..." It came with a sigh, and a little face, but gin was better than nothing and it would thoroughly wipe away the taste of salt and bile in the back of his throat. Ever considered for a moment, and then started to push himself up to stand -- shaky and uncertain as the movement was, his head spinning as he moved even a little out of that sitting position.

"That might help." But he had his eyes closed as he said it, swaying weakly, with a hand settled onto Zeke's shoulder for support.

He offered support while also getting to his feet, and for a moment he just stood there and looked up and down the coast, as if he expected to see some of the others. There wasn't anyone else there, and Zeke didn't know if that was a good thing or not. Honestly, he didn't have enough of a handle on the situation to feel anything but dread and confusion, but the sooner they got back to the dorms, the better.

"I don't think we were out there as long as we remember being there." It was said hesitantly, as he turned to the dorms and started in that direction, still offering as much or as little support to Ever as he needed. "But we we're definitely gone." A brush of his hand along his jaw said there was at least a few days worth of stubble growth.

There was sand all over his hand as he lowered it again, and he sighed. "A shower would be really nice, too."

Ever leaned into Zeke without any argument or hesitation, letting himself be dragged along. As they walked, he brought fingers up to the back of his neck and winced. It was burned, terribly; probably a good thing that hunters couldn't succumb to skin cancer. Somehow, it was already starting to peel.

"...how long...huh." The island was spotty, still, maybe because he'd been unconscious or maybe through some magic of it. Ever frowned a bit, eyes narrowed against the light. "Did that happen?"

Zeke shook his head, lips pressing into a firm line as they made their way away from the beach and towards the dorms. "I don't know." And he hated it. How many times now had they woken up in strange places, with strange memories, and no idea as to what did or didn't actually happen? The Mist couldn't keep track of them all anymore.

"We'll find someone to ask, or check the date on your laptop." Not their phones, if they were even still working, because they'd had those as well, and just that moment Zeke wasn't sure he trusted what they might say.

I'm really sick of all these ******** mind games.

No, tired was a better word.

Ever'd lost his phone long before, so there was no great loss there. His mind didn't even go to it. Instead he scraped at his hair and dragged a hand across his eyes, considering.

"I cleaned up a lot, but my room still isn't great, if that's where we're going." There was a grimace from underneath his fingers. "I barely have sheets on the bed."

That was where he was leading them, but the state of Ever's room really wasn't high on his list of concerns at the moment. "We'll put sheets on, then." One problem at a time. If he tried to take it all it at once Zeke wasn't sure how well he'd be able to keep functioning at the moment, and with how disgusting he felt with the soaked clothing and the sand, losing his s**t really wasn't an option. Maybe later.

Everything looked the same. The sky was still dark and cloudy, ready to pour rain on them at any moment. The Dorms still held signs of ongoing repairs. It didn't look like much time had passed at all, let alone a whole year.

As they reached the entrance he reached out to grab the door to pull it open.

Zeke's mind was in a better place than Ever's -- but, then, Zeke hadn't coughed up a generous gulp of seawater, and didn't seem to have the same buzzing behind his ears that Ever did. He was flustered, more than anything else, slowly putting pieces together. It made him quiet and distracted, his timeliness blurred together, and everything a little smudgy around the edges.

"Maybe someone else finished cleaning it up while we were...gone?"

"We'll find out, I guess." He didn't think that was likely, mostly because that sort of thing didn't really happen, as far as he knew.

Once past the doors he'd aim them towards the stairs, and his grip around the other man's waist tightened as they started up them. He didn't know why he seemed to be in better shape than Ever, but it didn't matter, they were almost to the Life's room, then they can get out of their soaked clothing, take a shower...

Oh, and figure out how long they'd been on that damn island.

"Do you have your key?"

There was a little hesitation at about the third step while Ever moved to pat himself down, trying to figure out if he still had anything that was important on him. The necklaces still rattled around his neck, at least; the cuff still sat on his wrist, the other looking stark and bare in comparison.

But after a moment of prodding, he determined that no, the key was no longer in his pocket. The water had stolen it away. He grimaced at Zeke. "We could try climbing in the window from the room..."

That admittance would result in a sudden half in their progress and a defeated sounding groan half muddled behind the hand that came up to cover his face. For just a moment it'd look like that might be the thing to break the Mist's fragile composure. Then he drew in a breath, that hand lowering again to go for his back pocket, and as he felt the familiar lump of his wallet he sighed in relief.

"It's fine," he said as he got them moving again. Up the last few stairs and down the hall those few feet to Ever's door. He had his wallet or now, and was opening it awkwardly with one hand before sitting Ever so he was still being sorted, but Zeke had both hands free.

His post card was pulled out and slipped between the door and the frame. There was some rattling, a little sucking of the card, and a look of conversation on tanned features.
