Growth was not to be expected as a challenge but a learning experience

This being dutifully noted for the batch of five born in the heart of Lake Haven. It could only be pondered how their mother would fare knowing her children were not "ordinary" more so actually "extraordinary Each carried an oddity unseen by any of the herd or residents in the area. Being conceived during the great storm that barred its way through the kawani lands brought mysterious properties to each of them. Carrying oddities like misshapen hooves, extended tails, finally resting upon leathery-like wings upon the eldest back. She like her brother carried a more headstrong approach to most of the things they encountered. Indeed this was a conundrum to the parents and locals used to the parents serene temperaments. But, who was to judge something that had peculiar notions and outer worldly ideals then the norm settled around them.

Settling our focus on the leather winged foal opened a whole new world for both human and soquili alike.

Growing amongst her siblings she poised herself the most dominant even overcoming her brother who was more suitable for the job. She taking it upon herself became the protector in amongst the small band of foals learning to fish sharing with Eira the second eldest on the flock. While her mother and two youngest sisters carried no wings they still were part of her "flock" under her protection at all times. Even the presence of Kalona dragons didn't inhibit the nurturing protective guises of this lanky foal growing into adulthood. Her steps at first were awkward whilst her growing changed her into a magnificent mare both tall and graceful. Even with the subtle peculiar walking pattern she harnessed being swift as her leathery wings were used as a second pair of legs motivating her along the ground. Her mother Celendria loved her along with her siblings equally seeing no flaws with any of them even compared with her first two batches of children. This benevolent way of affection and temperament made the leather-winged offspring respectful of her Mother dutifully taking it upon herself prove anyone wrong that took on a different perspective.

Now as the sun was rising as it had each day the mare opened her eyes she looked outward wandering one thing. That thought brought her curiosity if there were others within the world like her family. Respectively now that she had achieved adulthood would there be another out there like "her".

Most Soquili carried wings, horns, feathers, claws, but none supported leathery appendages like her. Perhaps her way of contemplation was too much fantasy tied up in a hopeful manner. Upon this day she stretched her large wings then took to the skies noting the beauty of the Kawani lands. While she was swift in her flight her height couldn't keep her mid air too long causes bouts of gliding most days. Her favorite pastime involved the fish within the streams and rivers making a bouquet of aquatic treasures delectably for Eira and herself. This particular morning she glided after the fish snapping them up quickly enjoying only a few for herself while the rest she'd give openly to her sibling.

Then she saw a shadow glide over to the opposite bank causing the leather-winged mare to flinch. Much to her dismay dreams are often deceiving as hopes are usually down thwarted but, if there was a chance to prove yourself right wouldn't you take that chance? Tossing her head she began to run the glide after the other hoping that her dream wasn't a dead end. Landing upon a nearby bank she cautiously looked around the corner of a tree seeing the truth for the first time her mind had ever queried she was correct.

Strangeness acquires a sense of curiosity and fear.

These thoughts had often accumulated within a certain mare's mind as she had come to terms with living in an alien world. From first glance things were horrid rather misunderstood until knowledge of truth and trust came into play. Within those moments realizing this new residence wasn't toxic the strange leather-winged mare grew accustomed to her new living situation. Food became plenty in the aquatic variety as shelter was never a fear in her mind. Doubts melted away leaving the female sure of herself particularly admiring the less chaotic nature of this new realm. Nightmares still pursued her thoughts of that disastrous memory racing to freedom yet eventually becoming more like faded memories. Things settled in tow with one another causing the wayward female to realize she was safe from harm presently.

Exploring her terrain she encountered an unlikely pair composed of a more land based mare and a bear. Both holding unique distinct qualities from one another yet they remained peas of a pod together. Simplistic ideals filled with boredom eventually lead the leather-winged mare giving chase to the strange odd couple giving her much needed laughter to fill the void. While in some eyes her antics would of been perceived as cruel she found herself giddy seeing that silly mare trying to hide with her rump high in the air behind small resting bushes. The bear grumpy in nature also seemed panic noting a rather large female kept gliding over their heads. Eventually, things had ceased leaving both parties standing in front of each other giving both apologies and acceptance. The biggest curiosity though came from a slender lithe second mare with a spiral upon her head. Her words seemed deep and otherworldly to the leather-winged mare bringing to light that she was indeed "ancient". Pondering for a moment on that particular word she came to realize her species had vanished among this plain years past.

Within that mindset she began understanding her uniqueness to these new creatures leaving contentment in wake. After apologies were established the ancient mare opened her heart to the newcomers calling them each "friends". Learning new customs trial by error the mare called Kararaui began understanding many things in a much more relaxed pace.

Upon this fresh new morning Kararaui glided downward from her perch noting how the fish were quite active this day. Taking the initiative she swept down over the water using her talons to catch rather large specimens to fill her grumbling belly. Throwing the aquatic delicacy upward her maw caught each delicious treat instantaneous leaving no error in her actions. She'd spent many days following this routine being rewarded nicely as her stomach remain satisfied.

This very day seemed like any other till her withers prickled as the scent of another creature filled her nostrils awkwardly. The fish seemed rather delicious today making the reserved mare to conflict escape over her foraging. While downing the last morsel looking toward the opposite bank she noted another mare standing there evaluating her. This being further downstream than usual caused Kararaui to become more rigid in her conflict of interrupting her feeding. It was hard to recognize yet firmly that other female could of possibly harbored leather wings. Surely, the ambrosia of the fish was making her see things she was sure of her thoughts. Yet the more her eyes lied upon the other Kararaui firmly believed this creature standing there was her own kind yet different somehow. Swallowing the last fish she had caught she stepped backwards as the other began gliding toward her. Perseverance over delicacy kicked in as her own wings started carrying her away from the other mare. There were many things whispered within a young leather-winged's mind mainly how territorial her kind could be. Snorting she resisted the temptation of a river enhanced meal seeking refuge from the other pursuing her.

Realization faltered once the darker female bolted effortlessly in the escape.

Now mixed feeling swirled effortlessly she shook her head in confusion. Simplicity, beauty, and prehistoric appeal filled the Palomino's head with intrigue. Still being rather impulsive she doted on the chance to give chase much like her brother who was hardheaded much like she was. This one though with her elaborate coloring was a prize for pursuing which wings already positioned set the paler female off on the hunt. Imaginative vibes sent her into a frenzy leaving idle thoughts at the door. Skin crawling with ardor for this timid prey left her senses ablaze with curiousness of the feathered creature she pursued. Heading after on a swift run her long wings outstretched leaving her body within the air gliding along a swift winter breeze. Flapping in desperate moments she escalated the chase moving in closer ready to capture the shying mare in her claws. Mere notions of biting the darker female surfaced but, she knew better. Fish was more a delicacy then actual flesh to her experienced palate. Its still bothered her deeply why her sister Eira was kept from enjoying such unique prey that seemed to stay positioned on one's tongue for hours. The grass was overrated but it did satisfy your hunger if no fish was present which Cella noted the other had been partaking till she was scared out of her mind from the drastic event unfolding.

The other moved unevenly in evasion which Cella could pinpoint before it was orchestrated. Sliding between the trees became more of remembered training chasing her siblings. Furloughed leather wings pulling her bulk toward the other in a massive struggle to win the prize and claim victory. Slamming head first into the other mare she threw them both into an off-kilter fall as wings flared in desperation to regain balance. Both spiraling out of control she just barely missed a giant oak that could have cracked more then her split would on her wing. The other mare though kept going till a loud crash, followed by a crack echoed in the distance. Cella struggled to stand her mind jolted from the stupidity her instinct whispered was correct. Now, she realized guilt was more believable than the average coltish behavior she exhibited. Nibbling on her lip she scolded herself as her mother did when she was a mere filly, "What are you doing? That's no way to meet someone that knows nothing of your intentions or presence". Simply put Cella had made a vigorous game of chase into something wayward if not dangerous. Ears perked she listened for a sound the other was responsive feeling deeply regretful the game flared upward to quickly. If her companion was present surely she would have been scolded by now proceeding to apologize to her defense.

Grunting Cella sighed deeply letting it ring through her chest when she walked toward the crash the other mare endured hoping deeply there was no significant damage. Moving with determination to stepped to the edge of the hill looking down into shadows. A soft groan could be heard which made her wince in deep regret. Mustering up some scrambled apology she began walking down the hill hoping a heated chase did not turn into something of a trauma or worse. Reaching the bottom her keen blue orbs lied upon a tangled mess of a mare embedded with briars and vines trapped against her wishes. Too tired to fight the assailant keeping her prisoner she lied there in a groaning despair terrified for her life.

Cella grunted stepping toward the other, "I'm really sorry that got out of hand. Its a game I played with my siblings and well, "she sighed looking at the other mare, "It's my fault you are in this mess".

Escalation was mingled with rigid fear in predator and prey as both mares escaped and pursued. Conflict of interests certainly wasn't an issue as Kararaui moved post-haste back to her nesting area the extended way. The other gave serious chase leaving her mind to cling desperately to the fact she could be attacked or killed for being in someone's territory. Certainly, it seemed bleak as she moved headway deep into the woods being careful to avoid strange branches, briars, or those pesky thorns. No matter what action she mustered that pale female kept on her heels strong and effective. Hopeless was one word coming to mind if not futile. Grunting she powered through the woods pinpointing each tree in her vicinity, weaving around them vicariously as her courage could carry her.

Still, the other mare pursued thundering behind her in some sort of frantic frenzy to capture Kararuai's very being.

Suddenly, sheer force connected behind the darker leather winged mare abruptly sending both shock and surprise post-haste. It was a torrent of pressure worse than when the volcano exploded from her homeland that threw concentration to the wind. Now, she scrambled for clarity and footing with wings flailing desperately for balance. In a perfect gargle of a scream, her body slid off a cliff of some manor and slammed straight into a thorny briar patch. Pain vibrated her body from the prickly creations poking her sides, neck, and rear. Shaking she tried to free herself only to tangle up more in a sizeable sting making the tall dino mare wince.

Now, she panicked tearing through her wing a bit causing merely a scratch but it felt like hell's fire in her situation.

Then, Kararuai looked up toward the hillside and saw the other mare simply standing there, her sides heaving in bouts of breath. Singling out her prey the purple feathered mare predicted. Perhaps, they would be kind and end it quickly because these thorns were quite the undoing mentally. Struggling once more she groaned accepting her fate. Then to her surprise, the paler female did something mindblowing she'd not soon forget; an apology. Momentarily, Kararuai pondered that a dream had manifested leaving her to feel serenity before the other split her wide open. Instead, the other in their defense looked rather forlorn, sincere such an event had unfolded. Her voice was a bit saddened, extremely forlorn in sympathy of the feathered mare's predicament. Now the question remained deep in the dark mare's mind how she was going to get free of her entanglement. The more she moved the tighter they remained, and tightened making things really uncomfortable.

"Please" she gargled miserably, "Can you help me get out of this mess? My wings are scratched up and its digging in deeper". Praying insistently on her instincts she hoped this wasn't a farce that the maned female wasn't planning to strike her down. Then she saw a peculiar reptile walking on all fours behind the paler maned female. Closing her eyes she awaited her fate, a subtle tear escaping unwillingly for her death to arrive in a matter of minutes.
