TEAM VICTORY MONITOR

Chittentown Space Research And Developmental Pioneering Science Laboratories
Trolls may use this thread as an orp throughout the meta, till Sept 15th. RP posts that do not include game mechanics do not cost any actions.

The exterior of the SRDPSL is impressive. Like many of the buildings in Chittentown, it has the honor of being constructed solidly against the canyon wall, a mainstay for many sweeps. It is an enormous facility, with its vertical reach spanning many stories skyward, and many other buildings expanding out horizontally across the canyon. The exterior façade is weathered from age but kept exceptionally clean. If there were many historical codices on architecture Pre-Regina, scholars would call this style “classic”. Like the faces of the canyon walls, different buildings were visibly built in different time periods. From the large main building that takes up most of the vertical stretch outward, the SRDPSL is a colorful patchwork of Alternian promise. In the courtyard there are often many students from the nearby Schoolfeeding Facility mingling about, as well as studious researchers and engineers flitting back and forth with purpose.

The main lobby of the large central hive is an enormous block that looks much larger on the inside, with monitors showing the status of the availability of the rooms and facilities around the main laboratories. A receptionist sits in a circular desk in the middle, surrounded by wide hallways that shoot out like sun rays in all directions. On the upper floors one can find additional research and administrative offices, while the main floor contains temporary housing for recruits. Down the western halls are repurposed dormitories, small respiteblocks fit for individual trolls that contain a simple recuperacoon, small desk and closet. Prior to the Space Race, these dormitories were used primarily for monitored test subjects and staff on the premises, but the need to expand has caused displacement as well as the delegation of many other rooms (some larger than others, and some clearly having been utilities closets). Inside the rooms, monitors have been installed proclaiming the status of tests, as well as nightly schedules for workers. It is diligently maintained. Volunteers can find their way down the halls to a large, open cafeteria area, which spans off to a courtyard and many break rooms. Chittentown’s SRDPSL has many recreational areas, most notably a multi-story exercise facility for trainees and testers, as well as a well-stocked library.

Deeper into the innards of the building leads to newer facilities – the primary research and testing blocks, accessible only by keycard. These areas are general zones, previously used for spaceflight research and off-planet accessibility and function, and their workforce has been significantly decreased by the focus on the space ladder mission. Most of the area has been re-delegated, with catwalks and walkways filled with researchers shuffling one way or the other, constantly on the move with the pressure of competition. The area is also a main channel for transporting goods, and the flow to the space ladder itself is akin to a march of ants – it’s very clear which direction the action is.

Construction of the Space Ladder is taking place immediately, and already has made an immense difference in the Chittentown landscape. Just west of the building, the scaffolding and enormous skeletal structure of the creation is taking place. Its many channels and buildings dig into the canyon and spread towards the main SRDPSL building like a huge, tentacle beast. There is easy access for trundle buggies heading towards the massive docking area, and drones can constantly be seen lugging enormous materials back and forth without rest. The main industrial facility is vast, to say the least. Different sections of the interior are being used to create all matter of machinery for the ladder, with smaller more delicate digital creations being crafted in the main laboratories and closed-off blocks where scientists and engineers can work unmolested without the constant booming sounds of the main infrastructure floor. Robots are also being created in individual laboratories off of the main industrial floor, having their own testing rooms to avoid potentially fatal misfires and errors. Whisking her way through the many blocks and walkways, Dr. Casini Diacal can often be seen clutching her armfuls of research notes with stars in her eyes at the incredible progress being made.

What will you do today?
There is no activity in the central hub today, save trolls still chasing down various rogue elements of the hub and trying to maintain peace. No shipments of material are arriving from the facilities, and no machines are working at the space elevators. Whenever anyone who seems to be in charge is asked, they shrug. It seems that someone higher-up has ordered a halt to all activities, and everyone is left to wait for further instructions.

Main game mechanics are now all halted - this includes finding P! markers. RP is still open in all threads. Rebels may continue to send stolen resources/hack files. Mini-boss fights will continue until noon EST of the 25th, or until all bosses are defeated, whichever comes first. There are now no extra actions that can be used to fight bosses.

User ImageIt's the first day of the Great Space Race and volunteers are crowding the bustling entranceway of the Chittentown SRDPSL, herded by frazzled looking scientists who clearly did not sign up for any of this. They repeatedly promise the throngs of increasingly bored and impatient trolls that as soon as the orientation lecture finishes, trolls will be able to go where they want, and yes, use the load gapers. As each new volunteer joins the packed entrance, they are handed a cheap bag containing a slightly worn work jumpsuit, a map of the facilities, a keycard, and a schedule of important times and locations for the competition. Oh, and a fancy looking pen, that apparently can write both in space and underwater. Swag.

After half an hour of impatient shoving, a large figure can be seen, striding through the crowds towards the front desk of the SRDPSL, which has been ringed off for the occasion and elevated slightly to give the rest of the room a better view.

Dr. Diacal Casini stands before the audience, sightstalks sparkling. Her address begins with passionate confidence. “Good evening, recruits.” A handful of papers that seems permanently attached to her hand lies flat on her ‘podium’ of sorts as she addresses the crowd.

“I’d like to personally welcome you all to the Chittentown Laboratories. It’s not every night I get the chance to lecture, so pardon my formality—“ She explains with a fond laugh, “But it’s not every night that one has the chance to be a part of something so incredible.”

Her toned turns serious now, with each troll in the audience receiving an individual look from Casini herself. “For the first time in many – if not all – of your lifetimes, we as a people are on the cusp of breaking through our very atmosphere and reaching the heavens. Science and technology is booming, and your participation is a glorious show of enthusiasm and hope that I’ve not seen in sweeps. I am so proud that you are here. Proud to support you, and raise us all up as a people. Please do your best – you are joining Alternia’s finest scientists, researchers, engineers and more now. As you look to them, they look to you for our success. The very prospect of all of this is... Mind-blowing! Since we were wigglers, the sights of the stars have seemed so out of reach... I could ramble on about this all day, forgive me!” Casini laughs to the crowd, waving her hand in front of her face. Her large gem jewelry shakes and shimmers as she moves with excited energy.

She lingers over her papers and leafs through them a moment, taking the breather to shift gears. “Now, you are part of a special volunteer workforce at the SRDPSL! You will not be assigned to a particular sector or tasks unless you ask directly for directions, so please use your time wisely and report your activities via the monitors you see in the halls. We will not accept, ahem, “freeloading”, if you will, so do note that a lack of participation in the facility may warrant your expulsion from the complimentary housing we are offering during this time. Please encourage your friends, quadrantmates, and fellow workers to help however they can with their unique talents! We are so excited to see our project unfolding. Chittentown has always been a pioneer in the sciences – we are scrappy, we are fighters. We shouldn’t have to prove ourselves… But now is the time to show our nerve, our pluck, and our passion. Let’s go out there and KICK SOME a**!”

Heaving metal beams around the base for quick transport saves the facility a good amount of time!

Forera-- Er, Perore, actually, slid the received bag onto her hip, sifting through it idly as she dimly listened to the presentation. While she felt slight pity toward Chittentown and it's efforts for the top, the tealblood honestly could care any less. She tried to seem attentive, even slightly interested, but at this point, all the tealblood heard was noise. As soon as it was over, the tealblood made her way immediately to change. She already had her jumpsuit on, pulling the zipper up and stopping short of her hip, revealing a good share of skin. She wore a tight crop top in her "blood color," with the jumpsuit collar flared and her baggy sleeves pulled up to her elbows. The sleeves of her gauntlets were rolled up, and she wore her black combat boots, hair pulled into a wild ponytail. No piercings, though she kept the most important ones in her pocket, as per usual.

Her first thought was to focus on her strong points, which was definitely her strength. Waving over at a few trolls, they easily roped her into lifting a few support beams and bringing several back and forth. Mm, feel the burn!!!!

Leeroi had stars in his eyes. Space travel was so— so beautiful and exciting! The perfect use of his talents and the perfect way to prove his worth to the planet. The only downside, he noticed, was that he didn't know anyone here. Psykgi was supporting Civisect, Leeroi was certain of that. But he knew he couldn't deal with those stuffy nerds for more than a day, so he and his moirail parted ways in the name of science. It would be an unfair balance any other way, he supposed.

But gog, he felt lonely. One of the only highbloods in the crowd, Leeroi felt eyes on him that for once made him uncomfortable. Like he didn't deserve to be here. His nose crinkled in a pout. This team was where he belonged and he was going to make that known! Somehow...

Leeroi kept an eye out for someone to talk to. Someone, anyone who wouldn't shrug him off for his hue. Then, on his way to perform standard strength tests, he spotted the perfect troll. Striding up to the shorter, blueblooded volunteer, Leeroi introduced himself. "Hey, let me help with that!" Leeroi waved at Forera, sharp teeth gleaming in a bright smile, reaching out to help her with the beams she was carrying.

"It's good to know I'm not the only highblood here," He commented, barking with loud, nervous laughter. "What brought you to helping out this town, huh?" He asked, keeping a close eye on his new companion.

An orbital mechanical unit with a flawed AI is spinning uncontrollably! You manage to hold it still until it runs out of juice, impressing everyone and keeping the workforce moving.

Akkira was more than a little excited to be here and listened with great intent to the troll that spoke to them, though eventually that interested started to weign and the small redblood found herself poking through the bag that she was given, feeling around for anything interesting and making a face when she felt the pen. She wouldn't need that at all, she mentally made the decision to give it to one of the trolls she knew in the swamp. Once it was over, Akkira followed the noise of shuffling bags and trolls to a changing room, or what she hoped was a changing room. After a quick inquiry on if this was indeed where she should change, Akkira soon changed into the oversize jumpsuit and rubbed her hands on it with pure fascination. She wore a pair of triangle sunglasses to sort of hide her blindness a little bit, Tekkemom had scolded her last time about how trolls would try and take advantage of her or otherwise compromise her abilities, so this was sort of a must. she did keep her geta on her feet that clicked on the floor of the laboratory.

Akkira was so absorbed in the feeling of the fabric that she forgot to listen to her surroundings and felt something collide with her gut. She grabbed the thing in irritation, "Hey watch it will ya!" She shouted and held tight until the weird thing wound down. Wait, so this thing wasn't actually alive? " What in alternia...?" She ran her hands on the mechanical unit getting an Idea on what it was. It was not a troll as she initially thought. Too weird.

A shout of exclamation almost made the teen drop the beam she was holding, only to have the other side lifted by the blueblood. She raised an eyebrow at the kid, tempted to tell him to 'get lost'-- She really didn't need the help, thanks, but-- "It's good to know I'm not the only highblood here," It struck a chord in her, and with a quick look around, the rebel immediately understood his reasoning. She sighed. Well, now it'd definitely look like they were trying to make a highblood posse. She paid it little mind, however.

"I try not to use the h-or-l-word here, since the others just might get offended, but yeah, I feel ya," Forera commented, adjusting her grip on the beam and setting down her side near the spot where it was needed, letting out a deep sigh before offering a calm facade of a smile to the taller blueblood. "The flyer really got me." Forera mentioned sarcastically, eyebrows lifting with slight amusement before rolling her eyes lightheartedly and crossing her arms in thought. "I like supportin' the underdog, I guess. They could use any help they get." Forera mentioned, thinking up her lies rather smoothly, easily. It almost felt natural at this point, having mentioned it so many times.

"What brings y'here? Don't like them pretty lights up in Civi?" Forera asked with a half chuckle, tugging the goggles around her neck up to her eyes to keep the beads of sweat from falling into her eyes, slyly dropping some small materials into her pocket. She was thankful her bloodcolor wasn't that far off from blue, having changed her hue only slightly so it wasn't much of a difference. She nodded slightly at him before motioning to another troll requiring assistance nearby with her right hand. If they'd talk, at least they'd work while doing it.

Poe had always enjoyed science, as an abstract thing. He wasn't super bright in the traditional way, and reading was a bit of a chore for him, but he knew he had to support the rebels anyway he could. He was in disguise, with his false horn hat, and oversized opaque goggles to hide his true horns. The jumpsuit should have been nice enough, but he didn't like the feel of the dirty, oversized fabric touching his legs and carefully sheared them off at the knee. Combined with one of his bigger jackets, he felt kind of cool! Like a mechanic, or a protagonist to a fantastical story with monsters that were made with science. And that was hopefully the sort of look that would help him do those things, which he needed to do!

He started looking over architectural papers, carefully marking notes. He could learn a lot about this, and maybe use some of the information back at the swamp to help build new hives in a more stable way! "Hmm... it seems like.... this would be a good way to build," he muttered to himself. "This elevator will be sure to raise people's spirits!"

"Ah, s**t, you're right. My bad," Leeroi laughed again, nervously looking around to see if anyone caught his blunder. Taking a break to cool down, he shed the top of his jumpsuit and tied it around his waist, revealing a symbol-emblazoned tank underneath, and calling more attention to his robot arm. "I can't stand those prissy Civisect nerds, they all have sticks up their asses. Here they're not afraid to get s**t done, you know?" He bared his teeth, smiling proudly. "Not afraid to get messy." He laughed again, cracking his knuckles and stretching before moving to pick up another beam.

"I'm Leeroi, by the way," He said, slinging the beam over his robot arm and offering his free hand for Forera to shake. "I'm sure we'll be seeing each other often, Tiny," He added with a cheesy wink.

One of the heat channels needs to be unblocked to continue to function, and you manage to fight through the temperature to do so.

Nictor wove trough the hallway traffic, only knocking over a couple of couriers and only getting yelled after once as he booked it away from the scene of each crime. Clutched tightly in one hand was the memo of which heat duct in which hive cluster, which vent system, connection pint, likely location-

Nictor couldn't remember the exact location, thus the memo being taken with him. His palms were a little clammy from nerves with all the bustle around him, but things were going well so far. He just did his best to filter out the noise as he shuffled through the crowds, taking deep relieved sighs when he passed through the emptier hallways.

Ducking into an empty alcove against the wall, he double checked his directions and pulled out his map. After a minute or two of fumbling, he stored it back away and found himself at his appointed heat duct within the minute. He frowned seriously at the small duct but pulled out the screwdriver he'd been given to unscrew and pry the panel off with.

The wall of heat the hit him as soon as he poked his head in was choking. Nictor reared back, grimacing and biting his cheek.

It was too late to ask for another job though. They needed this done and he'd been assigned it. He highly doubted that it would be taken too well if he tried to foist it off or ask for a new task. The idea of just not doing it didn't really enter his head either.

The vent was cramped, hard to maneuver, and sweltering hot. His clothes were quickly soaking through with sweat and macabre visions of himself being cooked into the metal didn't help. He did find the blockage though. some metal paneling had come loose and collapsed, as the monitoring team has suspected. As per instructions, he shoved the paneling back into place, put some heat resistant tape over the seams, and gave it a good hit to see if it was stable.

The paneling jangled and waved but stayed in place. Nictor would have shrugged if he's had the room to. Seemed like the normal patch up job if the ducts he crawled through to get here were any indication. That and the heat was absolutely miserable. As luck would have it though, the vent was too small to turn around in, so he was stuck doing an awkward backwards shuffle, taking double the time to reach the exit as it did to get to the blockage.

Getting out of the vent backwards proved to be too much trouble for Nictor though, when he found one leg waving uselessly out in the sweet sweet air conditioned hallway while the rest of him was crunched up in an uncomfortable bundle in the death trap warmth of the vent.

A muffled petulant groan echoed out into the hall.

Why did he do this.
Oh god, why did he decide to do this?

When he had signed up for this whole great Space Race thingamajig, he had done so expecting to be working on ya know, actual CONSTRUCTION. Poor Mahmud should have known all along that he'd be considered too small to be much help in that respect. Why would they take some tiny kid compared to a big, grown-up drone? Now the only way he got to see the structure up close was when he was performing his literal goddamn nightmare: running messages. At least he was quick to report; the less time Mahmud would have to spend talking to another troll, the better.

"Go tell them that this beam can't support the weight they want them to! Tell them to distribute it differently, kid! No use makin' a building that can't stand! "

Okay. That was no problem! He could tell someone that! No problem! All he'd have to do was find someone working on architectural stuff. Like perhaps that guy over there? Inside a room there was someone looking over documents, which upon walking closer seemed to be blueprints and notes. On one hand, Mahmud was relieved to have found someone to throw information at so soon so he could escape messenger duty. On the other hand though... that person looked awful young to be in charge of anything, Unless they were vertically challenged, there was no doubt that troll was a kid just like him.

Maybe he'd have some idea of who to speak to, anyways?

As the young boy walked over to ask Poe however, the other kid said a sentence Mahmud would have never expected. "This elevator will be sure to raise people's spirits!" Just like that he froze in place, stunned by just how... goofy that was. A goofy joke, just for the sake of a goofy joke.

"... pffft"

He tried so hard, really he did. Something about the timing and the situation was just right though, and the boy began to burst out in giggles "Pfffahaha! Ahahahaha! W-wha..." Lord knows he hadn't had a good laugh like this in a while, and when it finally struck he was unable to stop himself. "D-did you... Have you seen... ahahaha! A-an architect around? Hahaha!" A deep part of Mahmud was annoyed by this development; the pun hadn't even been that good. Yet here he was, caught off guard, goofy grin from ear to ear.

'Ardais' rolled in after her first night on the job. She had checked out some of the training mechs, making sure they were in good shape. Obviously they would be, first night and all. Buuuut it was good just to know. It'd be disappointing if they weren't. Honestly, Luxara had to wonder. This place had heart, but the volunteer basis seemed...spotty. A perfect place for her and her friends to blend in at least. A shame they'd have to rip Team Lowblood off though. But, business was business. We're not hurting anyone, just getting what we need. Easy as that.

She decided to stretch a little, stopping as she noticed something out of the corner of her eye. For! One of her mission comrades, though they were still on pretty shaky ground. But she wanted to fix that. Any way she could, honestly.

The greenblood slipped over, just in time to overhear a little of Forera's conversation with a blueblood of all things. Weird thing to find here. Why did he look kind of familiar? She wrapped an arm around Forera's shoulder when she got the chance and it didn't get in the way of work, smiling under the fabric covering the lower half of her face. In general, she was pretty well covered up beyond the jump suit, with her hair bundled up and everything. A very mysterious, hidden look, but trying to go more for an interesting enigma and not so much 'rebel trying to hide her scars'.

"Hey, Pery. What's going on here? Making friends already?"

He lifted his head from the blueprints and smiled at the troll approaching him. He had hardly noticed him! But... he was laughing. Feeling a bit flustered, he rubbed his neck. "Oh aha, you heard that! I didn't think anyone was really listening, but you know, elevator jokes are nice because they work on a lot of levels." He gave a cheesy grin to the other troll. Even when he didn't expect it, it seemed like he really was good at making friends with others with his puns! Nice job Poe.

Then he processed the other part of his statement. "Oh, I didn't see anyone, but, I think there's drones and stuff nearby, who can deliver messages." He moved his head as though he was looking, and gestured to a table nearby. "Why don't we sit down? Maybe we can spot an architect and flag them down!" He clasped his hands together, kinda eager to work with someone else for once.

"Oh aha, you heard that! I didn't think anyone was really listening, but you know, elevator jokes are nice because they work on a lot of levels."

AGAIN this guy cracks a stupid joke, and again Mahmud was stiffing giggles. "S-stop! Stop..." Some part of him screamed to high tail it out of here, to not let his guard down again but... at the same time... this goofy goggled troll didn't SEEM all that dangerous. Its not as if say, his super scary lusus was there ready to eat him. Well, for all Mahmud knew there COULD be a big scary lusus nearby...

"Why don't we sit down? Maybe we can spot an architect and flag them down!" Oh. Oh thats right... normal people would sit when offered, wouldn't they? For a moment the boy stood frozen, his giggles now gone, looking from Poe's hand to the gestured table. It was close enough to the door that he could make a getaway if need be, and it wasn't as if that kid was asking him to sit RIGHT next to him. Yet at the same time, Harpommy wasn't here to guard him just in case. It could be a trap. But why would someone set a trap up here? A rival? Civisect?

As a million possibilities flashed through his mind, Mahmud instead chose a different table from the one Poe gestured to, one right near the door. "Thanks um... I'll stay here. In case one goes by" In an attempt to assuage whatever fears the goggled troll may have, Mahmud gave the most pathetic smile he could. "What are you doing in here alone? What are you looking at? Are you part of the research division" Though it may have been easier to just get up and take a look, Mahmud instead tried craning his neck to see the information on the table. "Blueprints... are you... are you interested in how its being built or something?"

Sure, the clothes weren't that nice, but hey, since when had Kolako worn snazzy stuff anyways?! She'd just have to make it look nicer, she guessed! But that was for another moment. Now, the wild haired puffball simply wandered the area, looking for something to do-- She was good at talking, right, so maybe, um...

Looking to the side, Koko couldn't help but frown at a group of trolls not doing literally anything! It unsettled her and rather annoyed her honestly.
"OYEEEE!" Kolako boomed, grabbing a pipe from the side and banging the floor so hard it made her shake from the vibrations that rebounded back on her. "What are you guys doing?! Don't you see everyone is working hard to get this working?? Move your culos!" She exclaimed, watching them scramble to work. A satisfied smile spread across her face as they moved along to work. Alright, she supposed something was something!

A loud grunt caught her attention nearby, and Koko, thinking it was another slacker, had her pipe at the ready just in case. Instead, she was met with a leg. Kolako squinted. Whaaat! She quickly shuffled toward it, poking at it with her pipe. "Ho-llaa?? Are you alive?" Koko asked, head tilting from curiosity.

The task of delivering goods on the catwalks of the space tower falls on you, and you easily navigate the construction! +6 labour

Etsali adjusted her gloves one more time, made sure they were still fastened properly before she made her way up the ladder to the catwalk she'd been pointed to earlier. It was a bit strange, to be answering a call to help build something again. Old Hemisect still sat uneasily in her memories, but those skills she'd learned had come in handy in the swamp and she thought they might come in handy here too. That she had an actual order to steal as much of the building material as she could get her hands on was new, though, and she was eager to see how much she could manage.

Course, it was pretty clear they needed her to do more than building at the moment. Were there really so few trolls able to navigate the catwalks up here without getting hurt? Shaking her head at the lack of balance of her coworkers and the implied additional lack of sneakiness, she eased through her work without a trouble.
