Yeah, it really is depressing. You can blame it all on the money.
Ever since they came out with gold generating RIGs, the gaian economy went down the shitter.
Now people with more money than brains can just get all the gold in the world thereby making it worthless!

And so after many, many, MANY people pointed this out and complained,
gaia (for the most part) cooled it with the damned gold RIGs.
But in their stead, they came out with spending and buying incentives:
Buy x amount of GCash with this coupon and get a free item! Whoooooo~!
Spend x amount of GCash during this tier and get free stuff! Whooooooo~!
And just in time for Christmas, we have a new spending tier every day for the next 12 days!
SPEND MORE MONEY BITCHES

Oh but better still is when they make it so you WANT to spend at least five bucks in these tiers.
How? By promising a shiny new item to be made in alchemy using items from the tier! Oooooooo~
And for those of us who are dirt poor, you can make those items in go fusion!
Except the one special charm you need like 50 of is (you guessed it) in the spending tier.
Otherwise, you have to farm them one at a time from the event page,
or in Lake Kindred, and believe you me, they don't drop that often in that game.

... speaking as someone who HAS stuck around and can navigate the site,
it is pretty annoying and very money-centric, which is frustrating to say the least.
This isn't to say you can't enjoy the site unless you spend mad stacks o' cash,
but it isn't easy to get nice stuff (either because you need GC or the mp listings are ******** exorbitant)

I have no idea what the tiers are. I have no idea what alchemy is. I have no idea what 90% of what you mentioned in your third paragraph is. I didn't even know we apparently have cat avatars now.

When I stopped playing with the economy, I had 2 something million gold, and was halfway to buying another cat item.

I am probably just going to give away my s**t at this point. Most of the attachment I have to this site is because of the tons of money I spent here years ago. That money means nothing now. That money belonged to a different person.
